DOES Have Talent! Here are a few photos of Tara’s Got Talent; these are just a few of the 12 acts we put on stage for your entertainment! Wow! What talent there was, ranging from a Kitchen Band, playing the accordion, to wonderful singing, yet you can’t forget the inflatable doll and Fountains!!! The fabulous troupe who performed Fountains should go on tour - they had us all in stitches with laughter. A big thank you to Pat Sparany who introduced each act, our stage crew, Sound and Lighting, and of course everyone who participated with their talent. If you are interested in purchasing a CD of the whole show, ask Pat Dunning or Polly Borwn and they will let you know more information about that.
Thanks, again to all who supported our successful fundraiser!

Thank you to the Midwest Club for a great Christmas Party! The food was delicious and plentiful, the tables beautifully decorated and the music excellent. It was great to see the clubhouse filled for this festive party. I hope you have your tickets for the New Year’s Eve Party. We may not fill the Clubhouse with over 200 people, but you will have a good time ringing in the New Year with your Tara Woods friends and neighbors. If you weren’t one of the 55 carts in the Christmas Golf Cart Parade on December 9th, I hope you were watching and enjoying the spectacle as it went by – once, maybe twice. A big Thank You to George Daly and Mike Girty who spent weeks building Santa’s sleigh, and to Gerald Wehrung for mediating the project to a successful completion.
It’s a work of art! All your time and effort is greatly appreciated and will be remembered as it is used each year. After we welcome in the New Year and things calm down a bit after the holidays, please put the TWHA Annual Meeting on your calendar for Monday, January 11th at 7:00 PM. If you are a member in good standing of the Association (that means you have paid your dues for 2015), it is important that you attend. You should have received your notice in the mail and have all the information you need to vote on the suggested amendments to the By-laws, the 2016 Budget and election of Board members. I hope to see you there. Beginning with the January meeting, we will institute the practice of identifying yourself with your name and lot number

when you speak from the floor. This is standard practice as recommended in Robert’s Rules of Order and it will help the Recording Secretary keep the minutes current with the names of those speaking. Please also wait for the Sound & Lighting person to bring you the microphone before you speak. Everyone in the room would like to hear what you are saying. I wish everyone a Happy, Healthy 2016. Let’s hope the New Year brings peace and reconciliation within our own country and throughout the world.

This year the wonderful people of Tara Woods again donated to our annual Christmas collection for the members of the North Fort Myers’ Fire Department and Lee County EMS. This enabled us to provide the three shifts with Publix Gift Cards to purchase their Christmas dinners. It was your kindness and generosity that made this possible, and we sincerely appreciate it. Thank you all, and may you have a Happy and Healthy New Year. Chuck Poveromo and Frank Millette.

Can someone tell me where 2015 has gone? I remember going to the Labor Day party and before I knew it we have celebrated New Year’s Eve. I sincerely hope that everyone had a very happy, healthy and safe Holiday Season. It’s hard to believe that we are sitting down to write our New Year’s Resolutions. I sincerely hope that one of those New Year’s Resolutions is to renew your membership in FMO. Renew because it is the right thing to do. Only with your support (numbers do count) can the FMO continue to maintain our representative in Tallahassee, knocking on your representatives’ doors and making your concerns known. FMO is there to support you, your neighbors and Tara Woods. We can’t and shouldn’t leave the job to someone else. Just like in an election, ev-
ery new members or renewal counts. A three-year renewal for $65.00 is the most cost effective way to go. Our January 8th meeting is being held at The Heritage, just down the road from Tara Woods. Meetings start at 1:00 PM and there is a break midway with refreshments. Our meetings are open to all manufactured home owners. I look forward to seeing you then. Bud Snell always ended his remarks with “FMO needs you and you need FMO”. It doesn’t matter who says it. It is a fact of life. Questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me. Wishing you and yours the very best in 2016. Stuart Berman

TENNIS ASSOCIATION MEETING Listed below are some of the items that were discussed at our first Tennis Association Meeting of the new season. Frank and Carole Neveu installed new ball trays, and more wind screens have been ordered. Over the summer, the tennis courts were resurfaced and pickle-ball court lines were added to Court 1 (by mistake) and to Court 4. Comments were made that these new lines were distracting to some of the tennis players. It was also mentioned that these lines are slippery when wet. Many tennis players want these lines removed, so it was suggested that they should write a letter

to Hometown America to have the pickle-ball lines removed. Trophies were presented to both of last season’s SWIFT teams. The Angels received the 1st Place trophy and the Jewels received the 2nd Place trophy. Thanks were expressed to Art and Louise Frederick for donating these trophies. A sign-up sheet was passed among those in attendance who were interested in attending an AED training session to be put on by Chuck Poveromo. Appreciation Weekend was discussed and it was agreed that the three tennis games that were played last year will again be played this year. Linda and Warren Engel will be in charge of the “Hole in the Board” game, Janet and George Daly
will oversee the “Bowling” game, and Janice and George Johnston will run the “Hit the Chairs” game. We have preliminary information that all of the games will be played on just one day in a two-hour time period. There was much discussion as to whether or not you must be a member of the Tennis Association to play on a tennis team or participate in any organized tennis activity. It was voted on and the motion was passed that you must be a member. This will be instituted at the beginning of the next tennis season. Glen Fisher gave a detailed explanation of the new format for the January Round Robin. It sounds like a great event, so

AED TRAINING Chuck Poveromo and the Fire Department Chief will give our tennis players an AED demonstration on Friday, January 8th at 11:00 AM in the Clubhouse. This AED demonstration is for tennis players only. ROUND ROBIN The heavy rain on Sunday, November 22nd, did not stop the determined tennis players who wanted to play in the first Round Robin of the season. Two hours later than our usual start time, 16 players came out
to the courts to play – it ended up being a great day! Thanks to Frank Neveu who used the carpets to clean up all the wet spots on the courts. Later that day, 26 people enjoyed an assortment of pizzas from Jet’s Pizza, followed by ice cream sundaes for dessert. Janice and George Johnston were in charge of the dinner; they had help from Carol & Frank Neveu, Janell Wissler, Arlene Greene, and Arlene Franchini. Thanks to Dottie Hargrove who collected the money for the dinner and also to Dawn Benjamin for saying grace. Instead of the usual Round Robin in January, Glen Fisher is organizing a new team event. See the following paragraph for details.
FUN 32 PLAYER MIXED TENNIS SOCIAL We are planning to have a mixed tennis social on Sunday, January 24th. Our goal is to increase the participation of all levels of play. We will be setting up eight teams of four players per team. All eight teams will be generated so as to be equal in strength. Each team will play three sets against the other teams. The players will play against other players of their level and all the players’ scores will be recorded. It is a fun team event. Our goal is to encourage all tennis players to participate in this fun event – (the ladies who play early morning, the SWIFT women’s team, the ladies who play county, and the men’s Blue,

Cheers. – Glen Fisher TENNIS LEAGUES WOMEN’S LEAGUE Great news for the Tara Woods Angels – we are in second place in the SWIFT league. After four weeks of league tennis, the Tara Woods Angels have 18 wins and only 6 losses. Rain halted some of our tennis competition on December 3rd, but we did finish 5 of the 6 sets that day. The last set was stopped before being completed because of more rain. The make-up match was played on December 8th, and the final result had the Angels winning 3 sets and the Pine Lakes Panthers also winning 3 sets. – Linda Engel
MEN’S LEAGUE Red League Hi everyone. On behalf of the Red Team players, thanks for your support. We have played 5 matches so far this year. Our winning record is not the best (last place) but we are having a lot of fun. We need to recruit some new members to our tennis membership. With all the new homeowners in Tara Woods, we need your help to make our team/ teams more competitive, so if you want to join the fun, please call us. Cheers. – Glen Fisher White League We are one quarter into our season and positioned in the middle of the pack. But...we are still having fun and enjoying playing with the other parks.
We are also enjoying having our neighbors cheer us on, even when we stumble a bit. Please see the Tennis Bulletin Board for our scores and match schedule. – Gerry Gagnon Blue League The December 3rd game was rained out and was rescheduled for December 7th where we won 2 sets and lost 4 to the Six Lakes Stingrays. The previous game, on November 19th, we were not at our best and lost all 6 sets to last year’s 1st place team, the Six Lakes Colts. We all look forward to the early part of next year when we will have a full roster and hopefully outstanding weather. – Bill Powers Submitted by Linda Engel

TREASURES OF TARA: PILLOW CASES FOR CHARITY After seeing a program on making pillow cases and donating them to a charity to be given to those in need, I had no problem in finding volunteers who were willing to help me implement this Tuesday morning activity. Most of the fabric was donated by a friend who lives in Cape Coral, and many of us had scraps of fabric from previous projects that we used to make these cases. We began getting together in the Craft Room the beginning of Octo-
ber and to date have 68 pillow cases which are being donated to “Boot Strap” homeless coalition sponsored by the Messiah Lutheran Church of Cape Coral. I would like to thank Dottie Hargrove for helping me implement this project and Nancy Schoeppner, Linda Renzulli, Judy Powers and Barb Pollitt for helping us make it such a success. We originally were getting together twice a month but we would forget how to
make them, so now we meet every Tuesday and the process is much easier and quicker. Some of us have enjoyed it so much we have been making them at home. We will continue through the winter with this project as we realize it’s not just during the holidays that charities need donations like this. Susan Uccello
CHRISTMAS GOLF CART PARADE AND CAROLING
More Tara Talent Photos!
On the best of nights over 50 well decorated golf carts and carolers were riding through the community and singing carols. Following the parade, everyone met in the Clubhouse for singing Christmas carols and socializing over punch and various types of Christmas cookies. Even Santa Claus took a moment to join in the fun. Unfortunately, there are few pictures of this joyous event, but please enjoy those shown here.

TARA WOODS CHRISTMAS PARTY
The Tara Woods Christmas Party is another party well done which was hosted by the Midwest Club. They had everything well organized. The beautiful decorations showed off best when the lights were turned down; the whole Clubhouse seemed to glow. The DJ emptied the tables playing seasonal and lively music. It was a great night to wish everyone greetings for the season. Photos submitted by Lillie and Wyatt Longacre.

MID-ATLANTIC CLUB The Mid Atlantic Club held our first “Chili Cook-Off” on November 15th. We had a wonderful time meeting and welcoming several new members! There were six contestants trying for the title of “Best Chili Cook in the Mid Atlantic Club”: Nancy Wuebbeler, Judy Powers, Sue Yohn, Rick Virkus, Mary Green and Shirley Mize. After a “Blind Tasting” for all 28 members and guests in attendance, Judy Powers was declared the winner! Judy was presented with a trophy, a Medallion and a gift certificate to “Ruby Tuesday’s”. After the presentation of trophies to all contestants, members and guests enjoyed a large bowl of their choice

Avoid Emotional Investment Decisions
What’s the biggest obstacle to your ability to invest successfully? Is it the ups and downs of the financial markets? Political events? The fact that you weren’t born rich? Actually, the chief hurdle you face is something over which you have control: your own emotions.
Your emotions can lead to a variety of ill-advised investment behaviors, such as these: • Cutting losses – Declines in the financial markets can lead some investors to try to “cut their losses” by selling investments whose price has declined. Yet, when prices have dropped, it may actually be a good time to buy investments, not sell them, especially when the investments are still fundamentally sound. • Chasing performance – In the investment world, the flip side of “fear” is “greed.” Just as some investors are propelled by fear of loss, others are motivated by quick, big gains. They may pursue “hot” investments, only to be disappointed when the sizzle quickly fizzles. Instead of trying to “score” that one big winner, you may be better off spreading your investment dollars among a range of vehicles – stocks, bonds, government securities, certificates of deposit (CDs) and so on. While diversification can’t guarantee a profit or protect against loss, it may help reduce the impact of market volatility on your portfolio. • Focusing on the short term – When the market is down, you might get somewhat upset when you view your monthly investment statements. But any individual statement is just a snapshot in time; if you were to chart your investment results over a period of 10, 15 or 20 years, you’d see the true picture of how your portfolio is doing – and, in all likelihood, that picture would look better than a statement or two you received during a down market. In any case, don’t overreact to short-term downturns by making hasty “buy” or “sell” decisions. Instead, stick with a long-term strategy that’s appropriate for your goals, risk tolerance and time horizon. • Heading to the investment “sidelines” – Some people get so frustrated over market volatility that they throw up their hands and head to the investment “sidelines” until “things calm down.” And it’s certainly true that, when owning stocks, there are no guarantees; you do risk losing some, or all, of your investment. But if you jump in and out of the market to “escape“ volatility, you may take on an even bigger risk – the risk of losing some of the growth you’ll need to reach your goals. Consider this: If you had invested $10,000 in a package of stocks mimicking the S&P 500 in December 1979, your investment would have grown to more than $426,000 by December 2013. But if you had missed just the 10 best days of the market during that time, your $10,000 would only have grown to less than $206,000 – a difference of about $220,000, according to Ned Davis Research, a leading investment research organization. The bottom line? Staying invested over the long term can pay off. (Keep in mind, though, that the S&P 500 is an unmanaged index and isn’t meant to depict an actual investment. Also, as you’ve no doubt heard, past performance is not a guarantee of future results.) Our emotions are useful in guiding us through many aspects of our lives, but when you invest, you’re better off using your head – and not your heart. SUPPORT OUR ADVERTISERS
The Tara Woods Computer Club provides free computer classes every Thursday at 10:30 AM in the Card Room at the Clubhouse. These are open to all residents and visitors. We cover Computer Basics on the 1st and 3rd Thursday each month, and Advanced Topics the 2nd and 4th Thursday. 5th Thursdays are general question and answer sessions. It’s never too late to join our group, even if you’re a total novice. We are just getting into our instructions, including basic computer skills and how to use Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint). We spend as much time as we need to on each topic, and the next topic to be covered is always posted on the bulletin board in the Clubhouse. Feel free to attend only those classes that appeal to you. Bring something to take notes with, and your laptop computer if you want to. I will answer any question you care to ask me. A WORD OF WARNING TO TARA WOODS RESIDENTS: A growing number of my most recent calls have been to un-do the damage done by a new crop of self-proclaimed computer experts in our area, including your neighbor who tells you “I can fix that!” or the local retiree who “knows all about computers” because he has owned one for a few years. Most of these people are well-intentioned, but simply don’t know what they are doing. They may tell you to install free software from the Internet without realizing that virtually all of these programs destroy the security and stability of your computer, or they take several hours working on a problem that could be fixed in twenty minutes (leaving you in worse shape than when

ENTERTAINING NEWS
So Ladies and Gentlemen…..we find ourselves at the end of another year in Paradise. Some people think that living in Paradise would be a boring life. Well, be assured that spending a winter season in Tara Woods is anything but boring. There are so many things to do that you sometimes have to choose between two or three activities; there are just so many hours in a day. We, the Entertainers, will be so very happy if you choose to spend a few of those hours with us,
watching our stage play the weekend of March 11th and 12th. These will be hours well spent. Our cast has been working hard since October to provide you with the best show. This year our production is “Senior Follies”, a story of a small retirement community somewhere in Florida, (hum, this sounds vaguely familiar). Naturally, the skinny dipping in the hot tub will be different, but very tasteful. Oops, I might have said too much already. I will say that it might be a good idea for you to come and see what happens to Bernice and Douglas. Mark your calendar now, and in February purchase your ticket for a night of surprises and laughs. Pat-one, Stage Manager Entertainer

dusty miller, and nicotiana. Bulbs: Winter is a great time to plant bulbs that will bloom this spring. Some to try are Clivia lily, crinum, and agapanthus. Herbs: Many herbs will thrive now that temperatures are cooler, including tarragon, thyme, dill, fennel, and any of the mints. Vegetables: Continue planting cool season crops including beet, cabbage, turnip, lettuce, and broccoli. What to do Rejuvenate the landscape: After the danger of freezing temperatures, it’s a good time to plant woody shrubs. Water frequently to get new plantings off to a good start. Irrigation: Plants may need water if temperatures remain higher than normal and rainfall is scarce. Shrubs and Trees: Prune non-spring flowering shrubs and trees this month to improve form. Arbor Day: Florida observes Arbor Day on the 3rd Friday of January. To celebrate, plant a tree in your yard or community. Crape Myrtle: While crape myrtles do not require pruning, removing seed pods, crossing branches and small twiggy growth improves the appearance and form of the plant. Cold Protection: If a frost or freeze is predicted, bring sensitive plants like orchids inside. Water sensitive plants in the landscape thoroughly 12-24 hours before a freeze and cover. Pests: To control scale on citrus, shrubs, and deciduous fruit trees, apply horticultural oil while plants are dormant. Apply copper spray to mangos after bloom.
