FROM THE BOARDROOM by Lou What better way to bring in 2018 than a homegrown New Year’s Eve Party at the Clubhouse. A big thank you to the Midwest Club for hosting the New Year’s Eve Party and to all the participants who had the opportunity to enjoy a good night while watching the ball drop. Another thank you goes out to the Sound & Lighting Committee who brought in the Orange Sunshine Band to entertain us all. This was a high-class act with five musicians who played multiple instruments while singing songs that all of us, somehow, knew the words to. The annual Tara Woods Homeowners Association meeting was held on Monday, January 8th. The membership elected four directors, each of whom will serve a two-year term. Returning to the Board are Lou Dunning, Frank Millette, Ann Millette, and with a new member Ginnie Pontarelli. The meeting was well attended and we thank all the homeowners who came out and participated. In addition to the elections of directors, the Association’s 2018 budget was reviewed and approved by the membership along with the suggested revisions to the Association by-laws. Outgoing President Janet Daly was recognized for her 10 ½ years of service on the Board; she served 6 of these as President. While she will be leaving as a Board Member, she will continue to be actively involved in our community as the Activities Coordinator. A big thank you from all goes to Janet and her supportive husband, George. After the Annual Meeting the directors met to select the officers for the upcoming year. Selected were Frank Millette as President, Lou Dunning as Vice President, Ann Millette as Membership Secretary, Marie Ivens as Recording Secretary, and Eileen Robinson as Treasurer. Nancy Wuebbeler, Ginnie Pontarelli will serve as Directors at Large. The passing of Board Member Joanie Byrnes left a big hole not only on our Board but in our entire community. Joanie was always active in everything that she did – for instance the Sunshine Lady and revitalizing the T-shirt sales. We could always count on Joanie to step forward and volunteer in any way necessary to better our lives here in Tara Woods. We will miss her dearly. As a result of that untimely vacancy the Board is charged with selecting a director to fulfill the remainder of her term. The Board has selected Lynn Makia to fill out Joanie Byrnes’ term. Lynn is very active in our community and we look forward to working with her on the Board. Have you ever been to a Magic’s game? The Magic is our softball team which represents Tara Woods. They play Monday and Wednesday in Punta Gorda. The schedule is posted on the back bulletin board. They are a dedicated group of residents who are worth seeing, so check the schedule and plan to attend a game or two or three. Tara Woods Magic is known for having a large fan base attending their games. Let’s keep that going in 2018. Have you ever bet on a horse? If so, or if not, you have the opportunity to bet on actual prerecorded races. Everyone has their own method of choosing the winning
horse, so be sure to come out and try your hand at your method. I am sure you will be a winner! The races will be held on Friday, February 9th, at 4:00 PM in the Clubhouse. Tickets are $2.00 at Coffee, Bingo or at the door. Join us! There is still time to get your tickets to the Valentine’s Day Party hosted by the New England Club to be held on Saturday, February 10th, in the Clubhouse. This is always a fun evening. Be sure to get your tickets at Saturday’s Coffee or before Bingo on Tuesday night. Are you ready to have some fun? Our annual Residents Appreciation Day is Saturday, February 24th. This event is sponsored by Hometown America in conjunction with Tara Woods’ volunteer residents. This is one action-packed day starting with free coffee and pastry at 8:00 AM, followed by a golf cart/bicycle poker run. From 11:30 to 1:00 PM is a free lunch at the Clubhouse where lunch tickets are required. Prior to Appreciation Day, lunch tickets can be obtained from Polly Brown. Noon to 2:30 PM we move on to numerous games entailing shuffleboard courts, tennis courts, basketball court, bocce ball, horseshoes, mini golf course and more. Playing or working at each of these will earn you game tickets. Free BINGO with cash prizes follows 3:30 to 4:30 PM. In the evening at 7:00 PM you return to the Clubhouse where the game tickets you acquired during the day are redeemed for an opportunity to win prizes. This day is wrapped up with a dance which lasts till who knows when or 10:00 PM, whichever comes first. It is a totally fun day. To those who have attended before we look forward to seeing you again, and the people who are new to Tara Woods, please join us for this completely free fun day. This whole day is open to residents and official renters, so again, please see Polly Brown to receive your lunch ticket and plan on spending the day with your neighbors on Saturday, February 24th. Lou Dunning, Vice President
