PRESIDENT’S KORNER By Liz Poniatowski On behalf of the Board of Directors I would like to take this opportunity to thank the many members that have stuck with the HOA through all the turmoil we have experienced over the past 8 months. This has been a most challenging time to say the least. Over the past 8 months we have had 7 resignations and one removal from office. As of this writing we have 3 positions vacant on the board and have had 7 people apply for consideration in appointing them to one of the open positions. Information on how to sign up to receive emails from the HOA has been corrected to fall within the guidelines of Florida Statute 720.303A(1)c which states that we require a signature on file to forward information pertaining to meeting schedules, minutes, and all other information pertaining to HOA business to HOA members. There was an email sent out on 31 August to those of you who were signed up already. If you wish to keep getting HOA News delivered to your email address, please complete the form attached to that email. If you cannot print one out or haven’t signed up already there are blank forms at the HOA office. The office is open on Tuesday’s between 9
and noon. Thanks to all who responded so quickly to request. Within the first week we received 55 signed forms! To those who have voiced their concerns on why you need to complete yet another form it is because we did not follow proper procedures to enable us to forward meeting notifications and minutes. We were only allowed to email basic information. With your signature on file on the form sent out or obtained at the HOA office we can now send everything to you. An easy fix to comply with the statute. The board is working towards getting more events together so we can socialize yet still follow social distancing and mask wearing requirements. This month the HOA will sponsor a Halloween Golf Cart Parade presented by a great committee that just formed. The committee is filled with excited volunteers that can’t wait to show you a good time. And in November the man in charge of his Movember prostate charity events, Bart DeGraaf, has acquired HOA sponsorship to have an amazing laser light show come to Del Tura. We will be the envy of every community around, so I know you’ll all want to come out and support this worthy charity. With an event this large we’re hoping Bart and committee will surpass last year’s donations. Make sure
those deep pockets have some extra cash to get in on the fun in donating to a cause that is near to all men (and women who love them). Speaking of good things within the community a big shout out to Sheila Double and her workers for their August hot dog/bratwurst give away sponsored by HTA. Now let’s take a look at what HTA has been busy getting completed during the pandemic. The slab for the small dog park was completed, the new tables, chairs and umbrellas at the courtyard look great, the electric has been updated in the Starlight ballroom kitchen so we no longer have to worry about the coffee pots blowing a circuit. Your HOA directors and committee chairs and volunteers have been working tirelessly on the Welcome Committee updating the information that is provided to our new residents, our Membership Committee has been accepting new members for the 2021 season and now has membership cards for you to obtain and sign. Make sure you pay your dues to continue to receive the Tower and stay informed from the official mailings of the HOA. We have someone new step up to chair a Del Tura only Craft Fair and she has acquired many volunteers to ensure it is a great success. Bertie and her
volunteers have been busy contacting numerous vendors to provide you with a great Health Fair with more than 25 vendors already! Yes, the board has had many setbacks in our short tenure. We’ve had difficulties that no other board has had to face including a pandemic and numerous resignations, but we are strong and continue to strive to serve this great community we live in. There’s a saying “Tough times don’t last, tough people do.” I’ve said it numerous times - Del Tura is a community run by volunteers and we have so many great ones who have stood by our side and we want to thank each and every one of you for your patience, for your mentoring, for your ideas and mostly for your time. We are forever looking for volunteers to join any and all committee’s we have here in Del Tura. If you’re looking to find true satisfaction in getting a job well done and having people show their appreciation for your efforts reach out to those committees. You can’t get anything constructive done by sitting home on your computer and talking about it. Get out there. Get involved. Keep your social distancing, wear your masks, wash your hands, follow the rules and stay healthy my Friends. Until next time…
THERE’S A NEW SUGGESTION BOX ON LINE! You can now send your suggestions to your HOA office at the following email address: DTHOASuggestionBox@ gmail.com. With the current pandemic situation and everyone not readily having access to suggestion boxes in the Starlight Ballroom and the HOA Office
the HOA Board created the new email address to make it easy for you to send your suggestions to us! Each Suggestion MUST have your NAME, STREET ADDRESS and PHONE NUMBER on it along with your suggestion that you would like the HOA Board to address
with Hometown America. Along with the suggestion you should write a brief solution to help us address your concerns more quickly. You will be notified upon receipt, when your suggestion is brought before the BOD, and what actions will be taken with it.
Please let us know what your concerns are so we can make Del Tura our continuing Paradise!

CREATIVE WRITERS WORKSHOP By Nancy Davy At this writing, all events within the public rooms are still suspended. I would like to make everyone aware that I intend to kick off our Creative Writers Workshop again in October if I have enough people who would like to participate. Where we will meet, at this point, is still up in the air – it may
be at an outdoor location, rather than the craft room, where we can safely gather at a safe distance to share our love of writing. It is good to remember, especially now, that channeling our creative talents can be inspiring and therapeutic. Please email me and let me know if you are interested in joining us on Thursday, October 8th. My email
address is ndavy01@gmail.com. If you will be new to our group, please provide me with your name, your email address, and your cell phone number. I will reach out to you before we meet in October with date and location updates. I have reviewed the submittals of our group to date and selected one that should make you smile. This challenge asks the writer to tune in to all of their
senses to describe their surroundings. I hope you enjoy. And please remember, as we wait for our lifestyle, that was suspended for our protection, to be restored, I know I speak for all of our group in extending our best wishes to all for your safety and good health.

REFLECTIONS By Dianne J. Roderick
“Emergence” As I sit here thinking of how we will all emerge from this unforgettable pandemic I try to clear my mind and allow my thoughts to concentrate on the specifics of how our lives were like nine months ago. So many things have changed...we are all impacted by this monster! For that same reason, when I close my eyes and try to get some clarity before I write, all I can see in my mind is a very angry sky with lots of dark, gray, swirling clouds that seem to roll continuously. Then suddenly these ominous clouds are interrupted by sporadic bright dots of light. Symbolically speaking, this angry sky could definitely be a sign of these tumultuous times...but then those bright lights could also be a sign of hope that our prayers for this to end have been heard. Our lives have been turned upside down, so many twists and turns, yet we do our best to forge through. Although these times are trying (a bit of an understatement), many of us have endured numerous hardships in our lifetimes. We have lived through many storms of the past, both personal and shared but we have somehow emerged stronger after each challenging experience. We never realize how strong we really are until life presents us with those unexpected obstacles. Oh sure, going through the turmoil gives us more than our share of stress and anxiety, there’s no doubt about that! Many times we feel beaten, but we don’t ever throw in the towel. We pick ourselves up, dust ourselves off, and turn those negative defeatist attitudes into positive actions. Times like this force us to think about how much we have taken things for granted
and how blessed we really are. Suddenly we realize that material worth is not the most important thing in our lives. During these uneasy times our focus tends to shift towards our relationships, specifically the love we share with our families and friends. It’s the little things that come to mind. The many things that we just took for granted, like socializing with people at the market, the unexpected smile, the much needed hug... distancing is much needed for our survival but definitely not a part of our culture. We are social beings and that need, whether you are 5 or 105, has to be fulfilled to keep us healthy and happy. We are so fortunate here in Paradise to have outlets that allow us the opportunity to connect with each other. Many of us have also learned a bit more about technology so we can have Zoom visits with our families, or we may even use it to communicate with our doctor’s when our visits are due. Who knew?I have never been a big fan of cell phones but most recently my husband was hospitalized for 12 days with pneumonia and was in isolation , thank God it wasn’t Covid! If it wasn’t for the technology of the cell phone I would not have had any contact with him. On a brighter note, how many of us have ordered our groceries, or dinner online? It’s the closest thing that I would ever have to my own personal shopper. Another upside of this, many people are writing more personal notes and talking longer to each other on the telephone landline , or their cell phones. The conversations don’t seem to be as rushed ...more quality time and lots more I love you’s! Those little things are actually the big things that fulfill our needs, warm our hearts, and will get us through this together.
God Bless...
SIDEWALKS ARE FOR WALKING Full and part time residents of Del Tura and their guests are reminded that there should be NO PARKING OF VEHICLES, GOLF CARTS, TRAILERS, and RV’S ON OUR SIDEWALKS! Please keep our sidewalks open for their intended purpose. Our streets are sufficiently wide enough to handle our vehicle and still permit traffic to pass easily. If you have
contractors working on your behalf, please remind them of this request as well. Also, please keep your garbage off the sidewalks as well. Place it at the end of your driveway or in the grass. Attention to this request will result in a happier and safer neighborhood for all of us!

We just finished our Sunday afternoon dinner with our daughter and the grandkids. I’ve come out to sit on my back patio. It is a perfect Floridian fall afternoon – warm sun and cool breezes gently sooth my skin. It would be so easy to drift off to a short nap. From my spot, I look on the main pond and watch the little black Grackles, the great blue and small tri-color Herons, the Snowy Egrets with their black beaks and golden slippers, and young Osprey, which are all very active this afternoon. The Grackles are flying in and out of the hibiscus bushes, their whistles and squeaks accompanying their synchronized dances. The Osprey has been diving headfirst into the pond for quite a while- but has finally caught a fish. He is sitting very high in our pine, enjoying his meal. The fish flips and flops for a minute, then the sound of the powerful beak on bone begins. Nature is beautiful,
but it isn’t always gentle. I check out the patio and notice that I am within range of many bird droppings, so I move my chair out onto the lawn. Are there any sound as joyful as young children playing tag? Squeals, laughter, a few taunts. The 4-year-old is counting to ten – he still has not gotten those 6’s and 7’s in order. The five-year-old is going hand over foot in her newly found skill at cartwheels. She’s tagged, which starts the laughter and cries of “not fair”! Our brown and white poodle joins the game. She runs so fast, then she stops on a dime, pivots in the air, and leaps in a new direction – she would make a fabulous Polo Pony! Oh no, Man Down! I get up to comfort the fallen. I wipe the tears and kiss the knee- and inhale that wonderful earthy “sweaty little kid” smell. I’m not sure how the various senses work together. But this afternoon, my senses came together to give me the best sense of all, a sense of peace.

OBITUARY Donald E. Drown, our father, made his last Run to Home Plate on Aug. 19, 2020, signing off on his earthly life. Dad was born to the late George & Lula Drown on July 7, 1934, in Sutton, Vt. Being born during the Depression, the youngest of 8, completing 5th grade, shaped his formative years and resulted in a lifetime of determination, hard work and making a better life for himself and his family. Dad was a giver; he would give whatever he could, even his shirt if he thought you needed it. Dad loved to laugh and joke around. Dad was known for hiding the infamous Whoopie Cushion (you had to be careful where you sat!). He loved being with his family. One of our family favorite card games was PIT, lots of laughing was had by all! Dad enjoyed having people for dinner; his favorite meal - dessert! He would buy 10 different pies, and when he asked what kind of pie they like, he grinned and laughed as he pulled out the pie they asked for! His passion was baseball; he taught us how to be good athletes and team players, while coaching our teams during middle school at Waterford School and St. Johnsbury Little League and Babe Ruth. He loved hearing and keeping tabs on his children’s and grandchildren’s successes and always wished for our lives to be happy and fulfilled. Dad-Grampa, we love you infinity! When Dad was in his 20s he moved his elderly parents to Connecticut to care for them. Here he met the love of his life, Jill. She was his guiding light. Dad was an entrepreneur. After working for various trucking companies, including St. Johnsbury Trucking Co., he started an asphalt business in Connecticut. His desire to move back to Vermont was strong, so we packed up and moved to Waterford, Vt. where he and Jill ran DJLUV Farm, their successful dairy farm, for many years, providing a good living for his family. Don and Jill later started up an East Coast-West Coast DJLUV trucking company. After his late wife’s passing, Dad moved to sunny Ft. Myers, where he rekindled his passion for baseball and met his beloved wife Sally Youngstrom, whom he loved dearly. As always, he started up another project, remodeling homes, through which he met and worked with his good friend Stew Gilbert. Dad’s love of baseball led him to many lasting friendships that no one can put a price on: spreading the love of the game, connecting people, enjoying life together. We have all of Dad’s list of names of his baseball and softball friends, you know he loved ALL of it with you! Dad managed and played for many teams in and out of Florida including; from the 1980s to 2019 Legends of Baseball, 2014 Legends of Baseball Championship-Cooperstown, N.Y., Arnie Owens League- 3 years-36 consecutive wins, Roy Hobbs League. We believe there are two things Dad would like us to pass along: Don’t stop giving; For it is in giving that we truly receive, and at least one of us carries on the tradition of the unsuspecting Whoopie Cushion! Survived by: wife, Sally Youngstrom Drown, N. Ft. Myers, Fla.; son, Alan Drown (Lisa Pierce) Murphys, Calif.; daughter, Robin Legendre (Michael Legendre) Waterford, Vt.; grandchildren: Jadan Drown Redwood Shores, Calif. Brandon Legendre, Waterford, Vt. Jaselin Drown, Campbell, Calif.; greatgrandchildren: Jadan Jr. and Julianna Drown, Redwood Shores, Calif. A quiet family prayer service was held in Waterford, Vt. Memories and condolences can be shared with the family at www.saylesfh.com.
ENTERTAINMENT SEASON Unfortunately due to the Covid -19 Pandemic we had to cancel the Mid Summer’s Eve Dance back in August and the Atlantic City Boys Vocal Quartet back in September. REGRETTABLY THE OCTOBER 31ST HALLOWEEN DANCE W/PAISLEY CRAZE IS NOW ALSO CANCELLED. As of now we still have the following HOA Sponsored entertainment scheduled for 2021: January 23rd - Alter Eagles (Eagles Tribute Band) March 20th - Jimmy Travis Comedy Show April 10th - Citizens of Soul Funk Style Show Band Schedule event are still planned to take place in the Starlight Ballroom Doors traditionally open @ 6:30 with the events starting @ 7:00 PM. FROM THE DESK OF THE TREASURER! By Gail Hodge By now most of you are aware that the 2020 Entertainment events have been cancelled. Tickets had been sold for the Silver-Merchant Event. When the event was cancelled earlier this year, we had a choice of requesting a refund, which many took advantage of, or waiting for the event to be rescheduled. This event has been completely cancelled. You may now receive a refund for your ticket(s). It’s not a problem if your tickets are here in Florida and you are up North. When you return to Florida, request your refund at that time. There is no deadline for refunds. All that I ask is that you write your name on the back of the
ticket(s) and include a stamped self-addressed envelope for faster processing. Then either mail this to Ticket Refund: Attention Treasurer, 609 Sierra Madre, North Fort Myers, Florida 33903 or put it through the mail slot of the door to the HOA office or drop it off in person at the HOA office Tuesday mornings between the hours of 9-12 noon. I would like to thank all of those that have already requested a refund and enclosed a stamped selfaddressed envelope, it was greatly appreciated. Any questions I can be reached at 585-315-1628 (if no answer please leave a message) or email me at gailhodge2008@gmail.com Del Tura HOA Treasurer

Financial Moves for Widows and Widowers
If you’ve recently become a widow or widower, you’re obviously dealing with an enormous emotional burden, and coping with your grief can seem like a full-time struggle. Unfortunately, the business of life must go on – and the financial moves you make at this time can have a big impact on your life. So, as you attend to your affairs, consider the following suggestions: • Don’t make hasty decisions. Even though you will need to make some moves in the near future, don’t feel rushed into decisions that may prove to be ill-advised. For example, don’t immediately sell your home or liquidate all your stocks. • Consult with your estate planning professional. If you and your spouse created an estate plan involving a will, living trust or other documents, you’ll want to consult with your estate planning professional to determine what steps should be taken to implement these arrangements. • Address life insurance issues. If your spouse had a life insurance policy, you’ll want to contact your insurance agent for help in navigating the paperwork necessary to receive the death benefit. Of course, some financial advisors also sell life insurance within the context of your overall financial strategy, so, if this is your situation, you’ll want to speak with your advisor about how to handle the insurance proceeds. • Apply for Social Security benefits. If you are 60 or older, you may be entitled to Social Security survivor benefits, along with a onetime death benefit. Contact your local Social Security office to stop the benefits your spouse received and apply for the new ones for yourself. • Change the name on financial accounts. If you and your spouse had jointly held accounts with “right of survivorship,” the assets will typically pass automatically to you, the surviving spouse. However, for legal purposes, it’s still a good idea to retitle these assets in your name. This usually only requires filling out some simple documents, which are available from your financial institutions – bank, credit union, investment firm, etc. But you also may need to change the beneficiary designations on accounts held only in your name, such as your 401(k). These designations are powerful and can even supersede instructions in your will or living trust. • Go over bills and debts. Review all your bills, automatic payments and outstanding loans. If they are in your spouse’s name, or in both your names, contact the merchant or financial services provider to change all correspondence and account information to your name only. For any outstanding accounts in your spouse’s name, you may need to notify the business that all payments will be handled by your spouse’s estate, if you choose to go that route. You may need to provide these businesses with the contact information of your estate planning professional. • Plan for your future. Once you’ve handled the immediate financial needs described above, you’ll want to think about your own future. This means you may have to update your estate plans and insurance policies. You’ll also want to consult with your financial advisor to see what changes, if any, you might need to make to your investment portfolio. Only time can ease the pain of losing a spouse. But by taking care of the mundane matters of daily living, you can at least alleviate the feelings of being overwhelmed – and that, in itself, has value.

2020 DEL TURA CRAFT FAIR By Tracy Messina Hey there Del Tura Crafters! We will be holding a craft fair this year! Due to concerns related to the COVID-19 virus, this year’s event will be open to DEL TURA RESIDENTS ONLY! This restriction is for both vendors and shoppers. No outside vendors or shoppers will
be permitted for the safety and well-being of our community. We will be setting up the Craft Fair on the lawn next to the Clubhouse where overflow parking usually is designated. This will make it easier to socially distance as well as get everyone out for some fresh air. Safety is our first priority.
If you are interested in being a vendor or would like to volunteer to help with set-up and clean-up, please contact Tracy Messina at (732) 336-1384 or email me at messina_tracy@yahoo.com. With your participation and support, I am sure we will have a very successful event. Hope to see you. Happy Shopping!

Water 631-786-6430 Tire Pressure (Del Tura Resident)
Tennis for the Fall season is not what it used to be! But… There is still Open Tennis on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays for anyone wanting to play from 8:00 am to 10:00 am. The best part is that you don’t need to find a partner. You just show up during these times and you will automatically be included in the group. No spectators will be allowed around the courts though. The Del Tura Tennis Association letter and sign-up sheet for intra-mural leagues are posted in the screened
“NO CART IS TOO DIRTY TO BE CLEAN”
room and will be removed on October 11. You can sigh-up for the Men’s or Women’s leagues as well as the Co-Ed league. You can also email your interest to DelTuraTennis@gmail.com. The intra-mural leagues will be starting in late October depending on registration. All league players will be advised as soon as the leagues are formed. Our traveling teams that normally play with the Lee County Women’s Tennis League and the SWIFT team are on hold at the moment waiting for the leagues to confirm starting dates. Many of the clubs are not open to outside players; therefore, the leagues need to take this into
Doris and Stan consideration when deciding on the opening dates. We are hoping to get back to a more usual and normal time in the New Year. In the meantime, keep safe and healthy. If you have any questions, please contact Jacqueline St-Jean at jacstjean2016@gmail. com or the Del Tura Tennis Association at DelTuraTennis@ gmail.com.

By Jack Blevons Hello Del-Tura bingo lovers. This will be short but need to update you as to what is going on with our bingo on Thursday nights that normally always start around the middle of October. I am writing this while we still are up in Wisconsin. Last week I called the front office to see where things stand since our bingo was shut down last March, a couple of weeks sooner than normal because of the Covid situation. So, when I asked if the clubhouse would be open Thursday nights for bingo, I was told not yet. So, at this writing, which is September 8th, we are not allowed yet to have our bingo night.
Now, it’s a month away & things could possibly change so my advice for those of you that come Thursday night to our bingo, please watch the electronic information Board that you see when you enter our community. Things could change in between these monthly letters I write in the Tower so until we get the okay to be able to run & play bingo on Thursday nights, just keep checking that board & I will ask the front office to please notify us if & when things change that will allow us to run that bingo again. Let’s all hope that things get better so we can get back to living a normal life again & have fun & enjoy doing the things we all love to do. Thank you for your understanding.

It was so much fun and after golfing we had lunch too!

SPORTS & EXERCISE 9-HOLE WOMAN’S GOLF ASSOC. (DTNHWGA) By Sandy Gove The Fall Season is a strange concept when living in Florida with all our sunshine, warm temps and daily rain showers that continue into September and beyond. A real harbinger of the changing season is, usually, the return of our ‘snowbirds’ from around the country and beyond including our Canadian friends. We hope the same is true for this year as we miss each and every one of you, and hope this finds each of you well. The last monthly play date for combined 9 hole and 18 hole leagues was September 17. A box lunch after golf was catered by Panera Bread and held in the Starlight Ballroom to accommodate social distancing. Everyone enjoyed getting together and appreciates the efforts of those involved in making it happen. The combined monthly play proved a nice diversion from the normal weekly games for both groups. Justine and Debby have been busy planning special events for the coming year. They met with Paul regarding Casper Golf guidelines for various activities, recognizing that certain precautions are required due to the Covid situation, so there may be changes from what we’ve been used to in prior years. It’s hoped that you will consider participating in any and all of the fun events planned: see YOU on the Tee!

DEL TURA SOFTBALL LOOKS TO THE FUTURE It’s never too soon to look ahead! By Art Keen In my last article I put out a call to all athletes! This was no oversite. We are looking for Del Tura athletes to come out for the Amigos and the Diablos softball teams. Even if you have never played organized softball before we encourage you to come out and give it a try. I know that there are more than a few of you guys and gals who are swinging for the fences with those golf clubs. Put those skills to the test. We are looking to fill 30 or more roster spots in the coming months.
Most if not all of the ballfields in our area are open and are already sponsoring league play. With a little bit of luck, things will be back to some semblance of normal by the first of the year and we will be able to compete. If you have any interest in playing, please reach out to either me or Jim Hamilton. This means you veteran softballers too. We would like to be able to gauge the interest there is in the community now. I can assure you that your health and safety will be of primary concern. Hope to see you on the field or in the stands when Del Tura Softball resumes this winter! Art Keen (210) 279-2093 Jim Hamilton (208) 323-1321

HOW TO MAKE GARDENING EASIER AND SAFER FOR SENIORS • The very first thing you need to do is to make it accessible. That means to create a walkway that they can maneuver with a cane, a walker or a wheelchair. Of course, a solid cement walkway would be the best solution but that can be very costly. • So, another solution would be to use large, square stones and either place them or cement them together to create a walkway that’s as smooth as possible. • The next step would be to raise the level of the garden. This can be accomplished several ways: • Build or buy an elevated garden bed. You can even take it a step further and install or place “benches” on the sides of these raised gardens. • Use large and tall pots to also raise the level of gardening. Any kind of container gardening that is elevated would work. • If there’s a wall or fence, consider installing window boxes to make the garden more vertical. • Note that there are vertical gardens that you can install (or build) and they can be placed on a wall, like the side of the house. • For some seniors, handling gardening tools can be difficult. You will want to look for ergonomic tools that have larger than normal handles that are not slippery. You also want to consider the weight of the tool as well. • I would avoid power tools completely and only use manual ones. • Hire help for the tasks that are just too difficult or strenuous to do. • Make sure to wear the proper clothing. Proper shoes (no sandals or anything that can slip off easily), large brimmed hats to keep the sun off of you, gardening gloves and use bug spray and protect your skin with sunscreen lotion. • Keep a jug or bottle of water nearby and within easy access and of course, drink often to avoid dehydration. • Work in the garden periodically throughout the day vs. all at once. An example would be to work 20 minutes at a time in the garden, 3 or 4 times throughout the day instead of a full hour or more all at once. This helps to protect yourself from heat exhaustion, protects you from overusing your muscles and overtaxing your joints. • Moving the garden hose from one area to another can be a pain. Consider using drip irrigation the can be left in place. Use a timer for scheduled watering.

DEL TURA HOLIDAY BASKET PROGRAM 2020 THANKSGIVING & CHRISTMAS BASKETS By Charlene Ruotolo
To All DEL TURA Residents As many of you know when the Holidays roll around the Basket Program asks for donations of non-perishable food and or money to help the Needy Families we contribute to. However, this holiday season we face a very determined virus that is not kind to people our age and we feel that it would be unfair to ask for people to go door to door collecting. It is therefore, with a VERY HEAVEY HEART, to inform you that we will be unable to have a Normal Basket Program this Year. We do expect to continue the tradition in 2021. We realize that of all years this is a year when the needy families need the most help. So, with funds left over from last year we plan to provide 70 Turkeys and 70 Hams to Nation Charities to distribute to families in need. This is something my husband and I can do without putting anyone else in harms’ way. Del Tura Residents have always been very Generous, and we HOPE we will be able to count on you in 2021.

If you have just returned from being hospitalize and would like to have a dinner delivered to your front door, just call us at 9973474. We will be happy to bring dinner to you, let us know! If you know of a resident who is in the hospital or someone who may just need a pickme-up, call Ruth (513-403-6960) and she will gladly send a card or maybe even bake some bread for you.
If you have a fruit tree that needs to be harvest, call Sherry (239-567-0538) or Rick (239543-3662) and they will make arrangements to have your tree picked. They will give what fruit you might want to you and the rest will go to the soap kitchens to help others. Something to be proud about: The committee has picked a total of 3920 pounds or 1.96 tons of fruit consisting of mangos, avocados and starfruit. Imagine! Thanks to the volunteers who picked and to the residents who donated their fruit. We’re not done yet! Remember, we have a trailer full of medical equipment should you need something. There are no questions asked and you can keep the piece of equipment for as long as you need it. Call 997-3474 and leave a message stating what you need. You will receive a call back and the equipment will be delivered to you the same day if possible. Do not spend your money if you have been hospitalized and the doctor says you need something. Our services are all FREE to our residents. You do not need to be a fulltime resident. Our services are also for any snowbirds. FISH is here to assist you! Feel free to contact our FISH president, Ginnie Benjamins (ginnie1131@comcast.net), if you have any questions. Thank you for being a FISH Volunteer!

AT THE HYDRANT By Justine Fitzgibbons
If Dogs Could Talk Hi Humans, Hi my name is Montana I am known as the “gentle giant”. I live with my parents Ron and Patty Whitney. I love playing ball and frisbee. My mom decided I should be a working dog, so she put me through lots of training. After I passed my AKC Canine Good Citizen training I tested and became a therapy dog. My mom and I are part of the Alliance for Therapy Dogs. Working as a therapy dog I have visited nursing homes in both Cape Coral, Florida and Rochester, N.Y. We visited with the patients, they are happy to see me and they all pet me. This past 2019-2020 school year we have become part of the Reading Therapy Dog
Program at Hector Cafferata Elementary School in Cape Coral. We would go every Wednesday afternoon. The children in grades 1-3 would take turns coming in and reading to us. There were 3 other dogs beside me. The children would take turns and read to me and my mom. The best part of these visits was I would get petted by lots of kids. I loved it! We have fun! I can’t wait for the kids to go back to school. You may have seen me walking on the sidewalks or taking a golf cart ride. If you see me with one of my parents just stop us and say hi, I love meeting people and being petted. See you Monday!
