Isle of Man Railways MER Mail Van No.16 Special Envelope After 40 years the restored Manx Electric Railway Mail Van No.16 was brought back into service and carried mail from Derby Castle to Ramsey, and from Ramsey to Laxey, during the Manx Heritage Transport Festival. The M.E.R. built two vans in-house, numbered 15 and 16, during 1908 at the Derby Castle depot. The two vans were subsequently lettered with ‘G.R. Royal Mail’ on both sides. Mail Van 16 was taken out of service in 1975 and stored in the Ramsey car shed, then moved to the old Homefield Bus Depot in Douglas in 1997. RF98 £12.50

Glossary Mint Stamps: Mint stamps have not been used for postage and accordingly bear no cancellation. They should be in pristine condition having full gum and perfect perforations. Cancelled to Order (CTO): Mint stamps that have been cancelled while still in sheet format prior to being separated into individual or blocks of stamps. First Day Cover: A specially designed envelope on which a full set of stamps, or a miniature sheet, is affixed and cancelled on the first day of issue. Presentation Packs: Packs containing a set of stamps or miniature sheet inserted within a clear acetate mounted black card. The outer cover contains details of the stamps and a short narrative of the issue subject. Coins: Cupro-nickel and supplied in a plush hard-shelled box, unless otherwise stated.
