Background
Vitrahaus
located in Vitrahaus Campus, weil am Rhein, Germany. The client is Vitra, a furniture company. Herzog & De Meuron are the architects of this building. It was designed in 2006. Construction spanned from 2007 - 2010. 57 metres long, 54 meters wide and 21.3 high building rises above all other building on the Vitra Campus. The intention was not to create a horizontal building, but to create a vertical structure that provides a compact overviewin many ways, the landscape surrounding the premises of the company and especially the collection of chairs for vitra.s Home
ARCHITECTS Herzog & de Meuron Architekten is a Swiss architecture firm, founded and headquartered in Basel, Switzerland in 1978. The careers of founders and senior partners Jacques Herzog (born 1950), and Pierre de Meuron (born 1950), closely paralleled one another, with both attending the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) in Zürich. They are perhaps best known for their conversion of the giant Bankside Power Station in London to the new home of the Tate Museum of Modern Art (2000). Jacques Herzog and Pierre de Meuron have been visiting professors at the Harvard University Graduate School of Design since 1994 and professors at ETH Zürich since 1999. Herzog & de Meuron received international attention very early in their career with the Blue House in Oberwil, Switzerland (1980); the Stone House in Tavole, Italy (1988); and the Apartment Building along a Party Wall in Basel (1988). The firm’s breakthrough project was the Ricola Storage Building in Laufen, Switzerland (1987). Renown in the United States came with Dominus Winery in Yountville, California (1998). The Goetz Collection, a Gallery for a Private Collection of Modern Art in Munich (1992), stands at the beginning of a series of internationally acclaimed museum buildings such as the Küppersmühle Museum for the Grothe Collection in Duisburg, Germany (1999). In many projects the architects have worked together with artists, an eminent example of that practice being the collaboration with Rémy Zaugg, Thomas Ruff and with Michael Craig-Martin. Professionally, the Herzog & de Meuron partnership has grown to become an office with over 120 people worldwide. In addition to their headquarters in Basel, they have offices in London, Munich and San Francisco. Herzog has explained, “We work in teams, but the teams are not permanent. We rearrange them as new projects begin. All of the work results from discussions between Pierre and me, as well as our other partners, Harry Gugger and Christine Binswanger. The work by various teams may involve many different talents to achieve the best results which is a final product called architecture by Herzog & de Meuron.”

CONCEPT VitraHaus The concept of connecting two themes that appear repeatedly in the work of Herzog & de Meuron, the archetypal theme of the house and stacked volumes. The proposal for the VitraHaus, was especially appropriate for architects rediscovered the idea of the ur-house or townhouse, since the main purpose of the five-story building is to provide furniture and household objects. Due to the proportions and dimensions of indoor Herzog & de Meuron used the term “domestic level as the exhibition halls is reminiscent of family residences.
Plan
The concept of connection themes are Repeating. The floors are created by Stacking of volumes.

MATERIALS Both covers the walls of the five structures that make up the building were made of reinforced concrete. All exterior walls are clad with stucco color “charcoal unifying the structure and connected with the earth and its environment. The interior walls are finished in white with the aim of highlighting the furniture exposed. The floor of the central courtyard of the buildings is covered by a wood flooring resistant to water and temperature changes. Wood was also used for the treads of the stairs and for some soils.

GRAUS
80 CUBE project; to design a structure with two desrcribing words. The words used for this project were INCREMENTAL and OVERLAPPING. From these two words concept models were made seperately and were developed into one single model later.
OVERLAPPING Extend over so as to cover partly. Cover part of the same area of interest, responsibility, partly coincide in time , etc.
INCREMENTAL Increasing gradually by regular degrees or additions.

MODEL DEVELOPMEMENT
FINAL MODEL The model shows GROWTH. the name Graus spelled Grows. The structure are in a shape of a growing human tooth. From the smallest structure to the largest , increasing gradually. The supporting structure is overlapped by a smaller resembling layer, It is also seen to be incremental from the smallest tooth to the largest. The larger the tooth the stronger its foundation. The glass covering the outer part of the structure is clear to show the overlapping of the structures. The color blue is used to symbolize open spaces, freedom, intuition, imagination, intelligence and wisdom needed for ones body and mind to grow. The petals represent the growth of a flower. They are used as a net to climb to the levels of the structure. The red color represents the hard work and blood that is shed in achieving excellence. The smallest petal is not connecting to any levels, symbolizing work without no aim. The balconies also overlap slabs that are containing incremental steps.

CLIENT HOUSE
BACKGROUND Client House; in this project we were each given a celebrity figure as the client. We researched the clients personality and chose personality words to develop the design. For the client we designed a getaway house. The house were to be located at Laamu Fonadhoo , Maldivies.
FIBONACCI SHARD
Background The design of this house was developed from concept ‘More than meets the eye’. Meaning from the inside its not what you think it is. The complex shards and pointy edges show aggressiveness of the client Gordon Ramsay. The emotion which the public eye sees. But it’s the opposite of his true self. Every part of the design reflects the most noticeable attribute of Gordon Ramsay, his Perfectionism. The basic form was developed around a rectangular box which its lengths and breadths are derived from Golden ratio, other wise known as the Gods ratio of perfection. The Shard like shapes around the box were created from the golden ratio spiral of Fibonacci, where the structure got its name from. Its sharp edges define Aggressiveness. This shards are in two sizes. The large shard was created from multiplying its size by the golden ratio 1.618. The space inside is very calm and simple, a rectangle shape. After some development the rectangle box is not seen but the space itself derived from a rectangle and the space still has its rectangular features. The content of the house is also sized by the Golden ratio. From the smallest room (toilet) to largest room.
