ANALYTICAL SURVEY FOR AFFORDABLE HOUSING
2016
introduction
The survey was conducted by the students of Bachelors of Arts in Architectural Design in Faculty of engineering Technology. It is conducted to collect information needed for the project (Affordable Housing) in Architectural Design Project III. Questioners were handed to 180 individuals above 16 years from different islands of Maldives. Among these 89 people were male and 91 were female. From this 180 individual 76 are originally from Male’ city while 104 were from different islands of Maldives. Only 13 people from this lives in Islands while the other 168 lives in Male’ city. Most of these people does not know the exact value of a land in Male’ city. Some thinks it is very cheap while others think it is quite expensive.

From the total of 180, 83 people are living with their extended family while other 84 are living with their nuclear and only 13 people are living alone. Since most of the people who participated in the survey are from outside male’ city they either live with their extended or nuclear family in a shared apartment or a house.
When an overall chart for how people would like to live in the future is taken it shows that many would like to live alone or with their nuclear family and very few would like to live with their extended family.

22 people out of 83 who currently lives with their extended family consider living with their extended family in the future too, while 24 consider living with their nuclear family and the rest 37 would like to live alone.
From 84 individual who said they are living with their nuclear family, 5 says they want to live with their extended family in the future. 45 people like to live with their nuclear family while the rest 34 would like to live alone.
From the people who currently lives alone no one would like to live with their extended family. Among them 8 would like to live alone in the future too while the other 5 would like to live with their nuclear family.

From the 180 individual who participated in the survey only 31 people own a house/apartment. The rest 149 people are who does not own a house/ apartment. The reason for this could be that most of the people who participated in the survey are under 35 years.

SUITABLE AMOUNT FOR FULL PAYMENTS
When people were asked what method of payment is most suitable for them, most of the people preferred installment method over full payment method. There are some people who prefers to pay the full amount at once. They believe that if the money is paid at once then they would not have to worry about the payment anymore and they would own the apartment.

SUITABLE AMOUNT FOR INSTALLMENTS
As many people preferred the installment method, according to these people they say that it would be more affordable for most of the people to pay a down payment and pay the rest in a given time than doing the full payment at once. Most of the people even preferred to pay a lower price for down payment than a higher price.
