Access Statement SCILLONIAN III

When

travelling on Scillonian III,

we’ll do everything we reasonably can to assist you.

Please contact our passenger relations team at least 48 hours in advance to discuss your requirements, so we’re ready to assist you when you arrive.

GETTING TO SCILLONIAN III

PENZANCE QUAY ACCESS

Access to Scillonian III is sign-posted off the A30 roundabout.

Scillonian III docks around 150m (500ft) from the vehicle drop-off point on the main road (no access past this point is possible by vehicle). If you have reduced mobility, you can request a wheelchair to take you to the ship’s gangway.

Penzance Quay has a tarmac pavement for some of its length with a dropped curb at both ends. The other sections are historic cobbled stones.

Access to Scillonian III is sign-posted on St Mary’s Quay.

The town centre is approximately 300m (1000ft) from where the ship docks. A taxi or minibus can be pre-booked to meet you on the quay. We can provide assistance to/from that drop-off location on the quay to the ship’s gangway (around 120m).

MEET & GREET SERVICE

LUGGAGE DROP OFF

If you require assistance with moving your luggage, please contact our passenger relations team at least 48 hours before you travel.

PENZANCE

If you have luggage you will need to take this to a luggage container. These are located around 100m from the vehicle drop-off point, which is roughly half-way along the quay. They are signposted, but our employees are available along the quay to assist with pointing you in the right direction.

ST MARY’S

If you choose to deliver your own luggage to the quayside, please do between 10:00 and 11:00 or between 15:00 and 16:00 on your day of departure.

Please have your QR code ready for scanning when you arrive. If you are unable to check-in online, a staffed check-in desk is available on both quays to assist.

BOARDING

Scillonian III is accessible for manual wheelchairs. The slope of the gangway depends on the tide and at times it can be up to 30 degrees.

Our crew can assist passengers with embarkation and disembarkation when pre-arranged by contacting our passenger relations team.

If using your own powered wheelchair, it must be able to use the gangway at 30 degrees and able to clear the lip at either end of the gangway.

Scillonian III is not suitable for mobility scooters; these can be loaded as freight, free of charge, and should be booked in advance. We can provide a standard wheelchair for the duration of the journey.

ONBOARD

Onboard there is plenty of space for passengers to move around and signage is designed to be contrasting – to assist all.

When the ship is berthed, a Windrush platform chair lift (max weight 250kg (39st 5lbs)) can give wheelchair users access between the bridge deck and upper deck. The lift is controlled by a crewmember, please make it known if you require assistance.

The lift cannot be used at sea and there is no access to an accessible toilet on the bridge deck or outside. You will need to decide which deck you would like to be on at boarding.

If you find yourself needing further assistance during the journey, please make yourself known to the Purser or another member of the crew.

Please note:

• Outside there are no toilet or café facilities

• There is no stair lift or accessible route to the main deck and lower saloon.

• If sea conditions are poor, it may be necessary to secure wheelchairs in the designated wheelchair points, or even cancel sailings for safety.

• No hearing loop is installed for public announcements.

UPPER DECK

The upper deck on Scillonian III is wheelchair accessible and facilities include:

• Accessible toilet

• Accessible café

• Wheelchair securing point for bad weather conditions

TOILET FACILITIES

We have one accessible toilet onboard Scillonian III, located on the Upper Deck, port-side. The toilet is clearly signposted around the vessel.

The toilet is fitted with a RoomMate to assist visually impaired passengers. It provides an audio description of the toilet facilities, enabling passengers to create a mental picture and navigate the room with ease.

The ship’s crew are not able to help with personal care matters, such as toileting, feeding or lifting passengers. For safety reasons, passengers must also be able to communicate, and understand crew members’ instructions. Anyone needing personal support on board should travel with a companion who is willing and able to help.

EMERGENCIES

A safety announcement will be played through the public address (PA) system. This is accompanied by a visual display on the televisions within the passenger areas.

If you are hard of hearing, please ensure you position yourself near a television when you board. If you require a printed copy of the safety video text, this can be obtained through the Purser onboard and is available in large-print and braille.

In an emergency, announcements will be made through the PA system with loud alarm bells and the ship’s whistle. If you are unable to hear the alarm and whistle, crew will make you aware.

If you have a medical issue onboard, our crew are trained in first aid and a full seagoing medical kit is carried. Further assistance can also be provided by the coastguard to the vessel, including helicopter evacuation.

Our crew regularly drill in fire and evacuation scenarios and are trained to deal with all onboard emergencies.

DISEMBARKING

At disembarkation, passenger movements will be controlled to allow passengers to flow off the vessel in the correct order, and to collect luggage as required.

The crew will make announcements, please follow the instructions given. If you require assistance, please contact the passenger relations team prior 48 hours prior to travel.

To go ashore, your mode of transport must be able to climb down the gangway which can be up to a 30 degree slope.

LUGGAGE COLLECTION

ST MARY’S

After disembarking it is around 100m to the luggage collection point along a level, concrete, surface.

PENZANCE

After disembarkation it is around 150m from the vessel along a tarmac/cobbled path to the luggage collection point.

ASSISTANCE DOGS

Assistance dogs are welcome on-board; they can be booked through your online booking or by contacting us at least 48 hours in advance of travelling. Once onboard, please ensure they are kept on a lead.

Facilities for dogs onboard are limited; please ensure your dog has been walked and toileted prior to boarding.
