ESSENTIAL BEDROOM KEY FEATURES 01 / Japandi is taking over bedrooms, bringing together Scandinavian design with Japanese home design elements. It blends the cosy warmth of hygge – the Danish feeling for life with the Japanese rigour and love for simplicity - wabi-sabi. This fusion can be seen in the minimal colour palette, timeless materials, craftsmanship, and highly functional pieces. / Timeless materials are key to design warm minimalist bedrooms. Wood and glass, which are very popular in Scandinavian design, convey warmth and proximity to nature. In turn, Japanese interior décor explores surfaces such as slate, high-quality paper lampshades, bamboo and rattan to bring nature indoors. With natural materials and greenery, modern interiors look timeless and feel welcoming. / Meaningful craftsmanship, appreciated in Japanese and Scandinavian cultures, meets new minimalism. Less is still more, but now wabi-sabi philosophy welcomes objects imperfections and focuses on sustainable and meaningful items. A design value is related to materials quality, artistry and storytelling. Artfully worked vases, hand-blown glassware, rattan accessories and beds, oak-panelled partition combined with raw concrete and patina are likely to be seen in bedrooms.

WATCH OUT FOR TRACKING LIGHTS will continue to be popular as they are very versatile and flexible ceiling illuminations. They can be used as a downlight, spotlight or an accent light, and their separate fixture can be rearranged according to homeowners changing needs and decor demands. RECESSED & COVE LIGHTING are taking over bedroom ceilings. Recessed lighting and recessed skylight-inspired can provide the right amount of task illumination and add a neat and sleek touch to minimalist bedrooms, especially to those with low ceilings. Cove lighting, instead, is often combined with tray ceilings for a dramatic effect. PENDANT LIGHTS are key to make bold statements and create a focal point in bedroom decor. Designers are exploring different materials, shapes and styles, from chandeliers and candelabra pedants to oversized geometric pendants in copper, aluminium and natural materials such as timber, rattan, ceramic, straw, cane and corks. NATURAL DAYLIGHT plays a crucial role in bedroom decor, especially with the rise of holistic design. It helps to set a calm and relaxed atmosphere, highlights colours and textures that enhance the sense of warmth, and drastically affects our overall well-being. Large windows, skylight ceilings, glass walls, and innovative solutions to reproduce solar light with lamps are some of the ways to bring natural light inside bedrooms.
