In fact, the apartment develops in a bedroom, bathroom, and four interlinked rooms, each one defined with a different palette and mood, and a new way of decorating with tiles. Geometric patterns run through all the different room, varying in format, colors and matching with the furniture
and decor of each setting. The choice of colour emphasizes the vibration of light in a continuous transition from darker to brighter space. Each room becomes an individual installation, with its own pattern, colours lights, and sounds.

For the inauguration of new spaces at PalermoUno showroom, designers, artists and companies have submitted a specific project under the artistic direction of Sophie Wannenes. The result is the new setting opened during the Milan Design Week 2019, a choral project made of limited editions and unique products whose common thread is the colour that redefines spaces and completely changes the look of the environment.

G: Could you tell me about your collaboration with Moroso and the M’Afrique Detached collection? R: There was an exhibition here (at Moroso) two years ago called ‘Spring to Mind’ about our 25 years of collaborations. But, they have worked in Dakar for ten years and they asked me to do some work there and I went to Dakar for three days. We’re waiting to see a book that’s coming soon called “3 Days in Dakar.” G: What was it like working with the artisans in Dakar for M’Afrique? R: It’s amazing how much you can do with good young, strong artisans. Everything you see here was made by hand, no machine. I worked before sending drawings, instructions on skype and whatsapp and all this.
Ron Arad / Photographer Alessandro Paderni
G: What is one thing that you’ve never designed and would like to design? R: A peace medal. For someone that will stop all the wars in the world, all the slavery, all the fundamentalism, and all the bad stuff. I’d be very happy to design this medal for someone: a crown, wings, a present for someone that will save the world from all the stupid things that the world goes through. G: Do you think designers are here to save the world?
“ B OR ED OM I S THE MOTHER OF C R E AT I V I T Y, JEALOUSY IS T H E S T E P FAT H E R "
R: I don’t think that good door handles would make the world a better place. Culture is generally surface to requirement. When you’re hungry you eat anything, when you’re not, you put spices.

Food for Buzz The Dutch Atelier Boelhouwer in collaboration with engineers and scientists have developed 5 colourful man-made flowers to serve as an emergency food source for the “Big 5 of Pollination”: bees, bumblebees, hoverflies, butterflies and moths. The ongoing flowering flowers are adjusted to the length of these insects tongues, faceted eyes and shape of preference. The project aims to tackle the drastic and harmful decline of insects population in urban environments.
Casa Ojalá Ojalá is a sustainable and compact house created by Beatrice Bonzanigo from IB Studio. The house has two bedrooms, a bathroom, a terrace, a kitchen and a living room which can be transformed into one another. The space flexibility is possible due to the innovative sliding walls solution in Wood-Skin and fabric. The walls are rolled up on pillars placed at the edge of the circumference and in the centre of the structure. There are approximately twenty options available to make the house fully customizable.

Pensieromateria Pensieromateria, created by Luca Alessandrini and HENRY & Co design studio, took part at the Salone Satellite introducing various objects made out of natural resources. The “Arco ” table lamp, for example, is made with coffee waste from the food chain Autogrill. Another example, a set of kitchen homeware made out of bio-plastic and tomato peel waste coming from Sicily. The set came to life thanks to 3D printing and it is 100% recyclable.
iQ Surface Tarkett and the Note Design Studio have showcased a new vinyl floorings collection at the FuoriSalone. The iQ Surface collection can be used in multiple surfaces: floors, walls and furnitures. Thanks to Tarkett innovative recycling technical solution, the torn out homogeneous vinyl floors can be cleaned from glue and filler residues and turned into raw materials of the same quality as vinyl made directly from virgin raw materials. This means that iQ Surface material installed today can be taken back and reused in the future.

DESIGNING W E L L- B E I N G Desig n for bodies and souls. The research of well-being, both from the physical and mindful point of view, continues as a major trend at this Milan Design Week 2019. Brands explore how the environment can affect our well-being and how we can design interiors and furniture to improve our wellness.
The research spreads across different fields, from home design to workspace environments, and it brings to spaces where soft and tactile materials have same importance as colour, together with natural greenery and the research for silence and intimacy.
