"First Wood Energy trade fair in South-West Europe"
"ITEBE have set themselves the primary objective of promoting the quality of the wood energy sector with professionals. To do this, ITEBE have begun to organise the circulation of technical information and exchanges within the sector. It was with this objective in mind that they had the idea for the first international wood energy trade fair as early as 1995 with the slogan "The sector from A to Z" with both indoor and outdoor exhibition stands, together with demonstrations, visits and lectures. The first trade fair was held in Lons le Saunier in the Jura, repeated in 2000, 2002 and in 2001 in Mulhouse. ITEBE have also been working, at the same time, to promote this kind of trade fair with their sponsors and, in some cases, have accompanied them on the way to their development. I shall mention here, Forlener in Biella-Italy, Holz-Energie in Augsburg-Germany, Technibois Energie in Quebec-Canada, BIOM in Straubing-Germany or Legno Energia in Arrezo-Italy. It is still in the spirit of promoting wood energy as widely as possible in the world that ITEBE have launched their Wood Energy 2003 Trade Fair in Cahors with, as their main client target, the South and West of France and the North of Spain" WOOD ENERGY N째2 / 2003

VISITORS
Wood Energy trade fairs have proved the solidity of the concept, despite a few difficulties at the beginning: the first fair on uncharted ground in 1998, a siting in a small town in thematic isolation, so to speak. The latest fairs, in 2002 in Lons le Saunier or, more recently, in 2003 in Biella have demonstrated that this offer of service corresponded to a genuine need because these Euroregional fairs have succeeded in attracting between 10 and 12 thousand visitors each time of which more than 5 000 were professionals. And there is a huge consumer market as well, 30 million in Europe alone, and it will surely be necessary to put on further events in order to attract these consumers more fully. ITEBE`s support for the World Bioenergy Trade Fair in June 2004 in JonkopingSweden is a part of this strategy.
The fair is especially devoted to those in the timber industry, politicians, development consultants, landowners, forest proprietors, farmers, individuals, rural and urban communities, manufacturers and distributors of equipment, design bureaus, heating engineers, housebuilding professionals and restaurant owners.
A POWERFUL COMMUNICATIONS TOOL In addition to those who actually went to these fairs, the news aspect of the latest fair in Lons le Saunier reached more than 5 million people, from direct mail, through newspaper articles, radio, television or internet. What other action about wood energy could reach so many people in a few months? The impact that such events have is extremely useful for the knowlege about and awareness of this type of energy... For there are very few other opportunities for talking about it, at least not on that scale.
THE TRADE FAIR The trade fair is devoted to heating equipment, stoves, fireplaces, boilers for logs or automatic ones, transported heat, fuel supply equipment and will also welcome those showing services: foresters, artisans, fuel suppliers, energy producers, design bureaus, the press, associations and training establishments. What is new in 2003 is the arrival of the charcoal and barbecue sector with, in particular, the official attendance of American professionals, world leaders on the subject.
SPONSORSHIP Our fair has received financial support from local authorities, the town of Cahors, the Lot Department, the Midi-Pyrenees Region but also from DATAR and FEDER. As for the practical organisation and publicising, nearly 40 French organisations have worked to make this event a success
and I should like to mention, in particular, the Quercy Energies association, the local working lynchpin of the fair, the Midi-Pyrenees CUMA federation, the SouthWest France CLER renewable energy associations, the Midi-Pyrenees energy agency, the Limousin and MidiPyrenees wood interprofessionals, the ADEME of the Limousin and the regional agricultural and forestry organisations. In Spain, close on fifty organisations have helped to spread the news with the hope of building relations between France and the rest of Europe on this subject; I should like to mention just a few of them: IDAE, ADABE, CENER, ICAEN, FAEN, CISMADERA or the forest trade fair Asturforesta. The Forestballer is a tool which enables logs to be bundled with or without the use of a tractor. This is an autonomous tool designed to avoid the frequent and costly handling operations associated with firewood production and waiting time when tractors are standing idle. It can be used by hand and is less tiring for the woodcutter. It comes in several different sizes of 1/20 and 1 and 2 steres (m3 loose) The bundles can be taken up immediately or later when a tractor is a v a i l a b l e a n d t h e g ro u n d h a rd enough to allow it to move.
