Teaching and Learning At Stoke Park we are on an exciting journey to becoming an outstanding school. We have a vibrant learning community that recognises students as individuals and offers appropriate pathways for a wide range of students of all abilities. Our staff benefit from a comprehensive training programme which continually encourages them to reflect on and develop their practice, seeking the best ways to improve students’ learning. Student needs are identified through systematic analysis of data and assessment as well as qualitative judgements made by subject teachers. Teachers then use this information to plan their lessons facilitating improved progress.

Curriculum We offer a broad and balanced curriculum, and at Key Stage 3 (Years 7-9) offer additional English, Maths and Science where appropriate. At Key Stage 4 (Years 10 & 11) students follow a core curriculum of English, (leading to GCSEs in English Language and English Literature), Mathematics, Science (2 or 3 GCSEs) and PE. The study of Science is taught in the three distinct strands, Biology, Chemistry and Physics. All students experience all three sciences whether they are entered for two or three science GCSE qualifications. For the remaining curriculum time they have a choice from a range of option subjects which includes both vocational and academic qualifications.

Further information about the courses studied in Years 10 and 11 at Key Stage 4 can be found in the Key Stage 4 curriculum guide on our website.

“Our aim is to provide an excellent education for all students at Stoke Park.”

Pastoral Care The Pastoral Team for each year group comprises a Head of Year, a Pastoral Manager and a team of form tutors to support our students through their schooling. The tutor is a central figure throughout each student’s school life. They are generally the first point of contact and a vital figure in ensuring students remain happy and enjoying school life. A happy child will achieve. Pastoral care is vitally important for a successful academic experience as well as being essential for our students to develop into well-rounded individuals who can cope with the demands of our ever changing society. “We promote a growth mindset and believe that all our pupils can succeed given appropriate support, self-belief and challenge.

Transition We are very aware of the importance of students making a successful transition to secondary school. We ensure that students get support to help them find their way around the building, we actively discuss and address any worries they have, explain what to expect and how a secondary school operates. If any child has specific concerns they wish to discuss our Pastoral Team will always be on hand. The Year 6 Induction period is very important and includes the sharing of information between schools, visits of Heads of Year and tutors, meeting staff through twilight sessions, spending a day in school and the opportunity of attending some after school activities.

Working with Parents Building strong partnerships with parents is essential in enabling your son/daughter to gain an excellent set of qualifications. We will be in regular contact with you to ensure lines of communication are open and any concerns or successes are shared.

Enrichment We aim to create the best possible opportunities for our students both in the classroom and out. We have a strong and varied enrichment programme which includes activities before, during and after school. Getting involved in these enrichment activities will help students get the most out of their school experience. It is a great way for them to meet others with similar interests, make new friends and it will add value to a university or apprenticeship application. It helps employers see students as well-rounded individuals. Enrichment activities may include trips abroad, university open days, drama, sport and music clubs, ICT and many others.

Forward Planning

Thinking Ahead to Key Stage 4 (Year 9) This is a very important stage in the education of our Year 9 students. We will ensure that all students benefit from careers information, advice and guidance and discuss appropriate courses for them with their tutor. We offer a broad and balanced curriculum which keeps options open for the future as many of our students do not have a fixed idea about a specific career they want to follow.

We will: 

Provide opportunities for students of all abilities, encouraging existing talents whilst stimulating new interests.

Match courses to individual needs so that study at Key Stage 4 is both enjoyable and successful.

Allow all to have the opportunity to study a broad range of subjects.

Ensure that all students are able to take a balanced range of subjects.

Provide flexibility and choice, so that those students who do wish to follow a particular academic or vocational path are able to do so.

Enable all students to follow a course of subjects leading to progression in terms of further training or employment.

“At Stoke Park School we have a relentless focus on high standards.” Dane Road, Coventry, CV2 4JW. Tel: 024 76450215. email: admin@stokepark.coventry.sch.uk : Join our

Thinking Ahead to Key Stage 5 (Year 11) After students have completed their GCSE and equivalent courses they must remain in full time education for the next two years. Many of our students choose to remain in the Sixth Form although they may also choose to pursue a course at college, an apprenticeship or full time employment with training. During Year 11, each student will have an interview with one of the 6th Form or Senior Leadership Team and will be offered guidance on the most suitable path to follow. Recommendations will be made about appropriate courses. In the 6th Form we offer a high quality education and we create a friendly supportive and caring environment with an ethos of hard work. We provide a broad and balanced curriculum (offering qualifications at Level 2 & 3) which is based on the needs of all our students. Our focus on pastoral care enables our students to develop into independent, confident and responsible adults. All students benefit from careers information, advice and guidance which will support them in taking the next steps in their life plan. We will support and challenge students to achieve their best in a safe and productive learning environment and to enjoy their school journey alongside us.

“We are a school who will support and challenge all students to achieve more than they thought possible.
