This is, however, limited for pre orders only.” Seana also said that very soon they would be adding more Goan foods in their menus and offering it to their customers on a daily basis.
Ericka Sequeira, also the co-founder of Casa de Kollo says, “We are the only cafe in Saligao that provides local Goan snacks and dishes which makes it very convenient for all the senior citizens as well as our fellow Saligaonkars to satisfy their cravings in close proximity.”
One immediately feels like home upon entering the cafe, with the sound of banter between locals around and the aroma of Goan snacks that lingers in the air. With an indoor and outdoor seating area, this can be your new hangout spot with friends and family for a morning breakfast or an evening snack.
“With everything getting westernised, we see the Goan culture slowly fading away. What better way to preserve the Goan culture than bringing the Goan foods to light. One must surely visit us for some authentic Goan snacks and foods that are not only delicious but also made with lots of love,“ says Ericka.
Popular folklores in which the people of Saligao were known as foxes or Kolle in Konkani, gave birth to the name Casa de Kollo. Ericka says, “As a child, it was always said to me that you’re a fox whenever I said I’m from Saligao, I think that stayed with me and became a part of my identity which I’m very proud of. It’s a privilege that I could have and incorporate in my cafe.” She also said that there are many tales as to why Saligaonkars were known as foxes, one of which goes to be like this - the villagers were smart and cunning because they knew how to do business. They invested in sugarcane farming which brought prosperity to the village. “The foxes would come down from the hills to feast on the sugarcane crops. However, the villagers were as sly as the foxes and would hide behind stalks and drive them away with sticks and stones. That’s how we got the title of foxes”, says Ericka. While there are many tales about it, you can always hear more from our local patrons at the cafe.
