AudioPen- Speech to text application.

AudioPen
In the ever-evolving landscape of technology and innovation, Louis Pereira, a self-taught Goan tech enthusiast has brought to life a revolutionary web app called AudioPen. The application is a digital tool that transforms spoken words into clear, written text at an astonishing speed. Let's delve into the world of AudioPen, learn about its features, the inspiration behind it, and the journey of its founder.
The Birth of AudioPen
Louis Pereira, the brain behind AudioPen, hails from the beautiful town of Porvorim in North Goa. After completing his higher secondary education, he moved to Delhi to pursue his Bachelor's degree in Economics. After completing his course, he joined a management consulting firm in 2013 and worked over there for two years.
In 2015, he gave up his job to set up his own firm in Gurgaon. After running the company for a little over two years, he shut it down and returned to Goa in 2018 to join his family's business. It was during the lockdown in 2020 that he found time to explore his creative side and ventured into building things online for fun. This eventually led to the inception of AudioPen and several other projects.
The Inspiration Behind AudioPen
Louis initially created a basic version of AudioPen as an experiment to learn how to use OpenAI's Whisper API, a powerful speech-to-text technology. The response he received from users encouraged him to develop it into a standalone tool. The simplicity and efficiency of AudioPen sets it apart from traditional transcription services, making it an attractive option for individuals looking to convert their spoken thoughts into written form effortlessly.

Public Response to AudioPen
Louis Pereira unveiled the first full version of AudioPen during one of his hackathons, the Half Day Build, where he kept his followers updated on its progress through tweets. The response from the public was remarkably positive, which motivated him to further enhance the tool. The user-friendly interface and advanced features of the application have struck a chord with those seeking an efficient and accessible voice-to-text solution.
Challenges Faced During Development
One of the main challenges Louis faced while developing AudioPen was maintaining simplicity while adding advanced features. Louis admits that he is not a professional designer, so he relies on his instincts to strike the right balance. This blend of user-friendliness and functionality has been integral to the tool's success.
AudioPen’s Prime Version
AudioPen also has a Prime version that offers a few extra features such as customising the writing style of your speech notes, writing in multiple languages and exporting your transcribed speech
notes to other apps through Zapier. Prime membership options include a one-year access plan that costs $75 and a two-year access plan that costs $120.
Future Plans for AudioPen
Louis's approach to the future of AudioPen is organic. He aims to continuously improve the tool, ensuring that every user gets value that exceeds their investment. While he does not lay out extensive long-term plans, his commitment to the tool's growth remains unwavering.
His Advice to Aspiring Entrepreneurs
For aspiring entrepreneurs, Louis offers a simple yet powerful piece of advice: "If you enjoy it, just keep building. Throw many darts at the wall, see what sticks, and double down on it." This philosophy encapsulates the essence of entrepreneurship—taking risks, learning from failures, and embracing what excites you.
