The Birth of Avris Environment Technologies
The idea for Avris Environment Technologies came to life during a casual lunch between two former colleagues, Ravi Ayyangar and Satish Patel. Both individuals hold extensive experience in different professional fields, with Ayyangar specialising in finance and project management, and Patel being a seasoned scientist in the domain of effluent treatment plants. Their reunion sparked the concept of addressing the menace of food waste.
Even before the Government of India introduced the Solid Waste Management Rules in 2016, the duo began working on a product prototype and research and development. Soon, they were joined by Srikant Sitaraman, an engineer and Bharath V, a management consultant and in 2018, they officially founded Avris Environment Technologies LLP. Their primary focus was to design and develop food waste treatment plants for industries and domestic use, with the aim of reducing the massive 40% of solid waste that is constituted by food waste.

In this context, "CHUGG" signifies the rapid and effective processing and treatment of food waste, much like someone quickly consuming a drink or a food item. The name effectively conveys the key benefit of the product to customers.
Positive Reception and Awards
From the outset, Avris Environment Technologies received a positive response from the public, as their innovative solution CHUGG addressed a
crucial need in the market. Their product was empanelled as a service provider for Solid Waste management by the Greater Chennai Municipal Corporation. The National Green Tribunal Southern Zone also suggested the usage of “CHUGG” as a solution for decentralised waste treatment. The product was also the winner of the prestigious HDFC Parivarthan Award in 2023.
Future Plans
Avris Environment Technologies has ambitious plans for the future, including the processing of banana leaves used for serving food, the development of high-altitude biological processing systems for food waste, and the integration of information technology to their systems to enhance their working efficiency.
