Library spaces are available six days a week during the academic term and open to all ATU Students, Researchers and Staff. Online resources are accessible 24/7 via the Library website.
Library staff are here to assist you with all your library queries. Direct support is available from the Library Information Desks in person, via email, and Live Chat (from the website). One-to-one appointments are also available.

Both Yeats Library & McKeown Library buildings are open extensively during academic term time. They remain open out of term time too with reduced hours.

The library is a shared study environment supporting a variety of users. To maintain a quiet and comfortable atmosphere for all, we ask that you comply with the following:

Access your library account via the website https://library.itsligo.ie/ using your ATU log on credentials to:
• Track your book loans for return
• Renew your books for extended loan period
• Check your interlibrary loan requests
• Place a book on hold
• Check your Search History or Reading History
The printing and copying services are handled by IT Services. For any email, password, WI-FI, Office 365, or Printing queries contact the IT Support Helpdesk via the Student Hub webpage.
First Floor (third level):
4 Group Study Rooms; Study and PC lab areas; Books with call numbers 400-499, 800-899 and 900-999; Reference Books; Official Publications; and the Withdrawn Collection.
Ground Floor (second level):
Main Entrance; Information Desk; 4 Group Study Rooms (one interactive); Self-Check Machine; Printers/Copiers; Study and PC Lab areas; Books with call numbers 000-399, 500-599, 700-799; Restricted Loan; Maps; Print Journals and New Books.
Lower Ground Floor (first level):
2 Group Study Rooms; Study and PC Lab Areas and Special Collections Display Area; Offices for Academic Support and Student Support Services (see page 10 for more details)
Each floor has lift access and height adjustable tables/standing desks.

Library Training Sessions will be provided during the year to help enhance your search skills and enable you get the best from your library.
Books are shelved using the Dewey Classification System (DDC). This groups similar subjects together for shelving purposes under the following 10 numbering classifications:
• 000-099 Computer Science, Information, & General Works
• 100-199 Philosophy & Psychology
• 200-299 Religion
• 300-399 Social Sciences/ Education
• 400-499 Language
• 500-599 Science
• 600-699 Technology/ Nursing/ Home Economics
• 700-799 Arts & Recreation
• 800-899 Literature
• 900-999 History & Geography
Each book has a classification number/call number label on its spine which includes the first three letters of the author’s surname. Books are shelved in numerical order. Display signs at the end of each bay denote what numbers are shelved there.
The number of books you can borrow and the length of time they can be borrowed for depends on your borrower type, whether you are a Student, Staff or Researcher. For more details, please see our website https://library.itsligo.ie/borrow/
Both libraries have single-person study spaces which are available on a first-come basis. Group Study Rooms are also available at both library locations, and these can be booked online via the Library website.
Books may be borrowed and returned from the Self-Check Machine using your ATU ID Card.
The Library Information Desk is staffed throughout library opening hours for in-person support and assistance.
Each faculty has a dedicated Faculty Librarian to support Students, Researchers and Staff in their subject areas. You can book an appointment or a group training session with one of our Faculty Liaison Librarians via the Library website.
The Library has expertise in supporting Researchers with their work/research, particularly related to advanced search skills, scholarly publishing and the various elements of Open Access Research. The Library Staff provide a support pathway through research from literature searching to final publication and further study.

Faculty Liaison Librarians in both Yeats Library and McKeown Library, are available for in-depth tutorials on library resources, referencing and/ or help with academic projects. To book an appointment for a one-toone tutorial or group training session please contact your campus library.
Appointments are offered both online and on campus.
Items such as books/articles/theses which are not available via current library resources, may be requested via the Interlibrary Loans service. For more details see the Interlibrary Loans page under Services on the Library website.
Postal Loans are available for Online Students within Ireland. First, place the book you require on hold (reservation) then email us to request postage. For more information see Services/ Reservations and Postal Loans on the Library website.
The services below are hosted in the library buildings by support teams.
ATU Sligo has two Academic Writing Centres, one based in McKeown Library and the other in the Yeats Library. This service offers advice and support on all aspects of academic writing to students of ATU Sligo. One-to-one appointments and group tutorials are offered on campus and/or online. Bookings can be made via the Academic Writing Centre Webpage from the ATU Student Hub and McKeown Library website.
The Maths & Engineering Support Centre offers students free support in mathematical aspects of their studies through providing guidance, tutorials and content creation to all ATU students regardless of their programme of study.
