TREVOR AND I STARTED SERIOUSLY DATING AGAIN IN my late twenties. I have always wanted to have children before I was thirty and I respected the fact that Trevor was a good father to Aaron. We discussed having children and a year and a half into our relationship, we were blessed with a beautiful baby girl, Courtnee May. Four years later, our second blessing Kasie Ella arrived on my 34th birthday and our family was complete.

THE MAN OF THE MOMENT, HUSBAND TO BE TREVOR backed up by his groomsmen, son Aaron, his Best Man, brother, Steve and the Pastor. ‘I’ve always wanted to get married but was quite prepared to wait for the right woman as these things shouldn’t be rushed. Fortunately I didn’t have to look far as destiny brought Gail back into my life and we just connected. I’m all the more proud to have my son with me for such a happy occasion. Trevor wore a bespoke navy blue suit and Italian designer navy shoes. The look was completed with a fuchsia and navy blend silk tie, and of course the customary white rose.

IT WAS ALL THE THRILL OF FLORIDA, ON AUGUST 11TH when teen sweethearts Gail and Trevor were joined together in matrimonious bliss. Witnessed by family and friends at the Cypress Grove Estate on the banks of Lake Jessamine, guests were treated to a picture perfect backdrop. While August is usually in the grip of the hurricane season, Gail and Trevor were blessed to experience a picturesque day. Since their arrival date on the eighth of August, it rained continuously and subsequent plans were made to move the marquee reception into the building. However, on the day it was smiles all round, as the rain did not dampen proceedings. The indoor air conditioning of the mansion was a welcome contrast to the hot weather outside

IT MUST BE FATE... GAIL AND TREVOR HAVE THE LOVE AFFAIR THAT ALMOST didnt happen. After deciding to emigrate to the U.S. Gail got as far as putting her belongings in storage and enjoying a leaving party. It was only after a chance meeting that Trevor and Gail were able to experience love the second time around. Soulmates who were destined to be together, Gail initially met Trevor as a shy school girl. ‘I first met Trevor when I was about 11 or 12 years old and he was my cousins friend. I happened to be playing out one day, and afterwards, my cousin brought Trevor home with him.

S u m m e r 2010 32

Reconnecting again by chance a few years later at a New Years Eve party at Podium nightclub. Gail wasn’t backwards about coming forwards. ‘I was about 19 or 20 when we began dating again. Podium wasn’t the sort of place that I usually went to but was persuaded by my sister and her friends to come out to see in the New Year.’ Whilst dancing and having a great time, Gail happened to spot Trevor on his way to the bar and made her way over to him to say hello. ‘We had a little chat, and later that evening, he asked me if I wanted to dance, and at the end of the evening he asked me for my telephone number.’

I T S M Y

I have always had a crush on Trevor, and that developes as you age, so I suppose the ‘in love’ stage began just after we first started dating. When our relationship ended, my love for Trevor was always there, but you learn to forget about the person and move on with your life. When our paths crossed again at the age

I T S M Y

of 27, I was able to fall in love with my first love all over again and we were able to appreciate each other all the more and experience an even stronger bond.

I WAS REALLY NERVOUS WAITING AT THE TOP OF THE stairs, as i’d seen all the guests arriving and knew that this was my big moment. I had a lot to think about such as ensuring I didn’t trip on my long dress, and maintaining a smile, however as I walked down the stairs, I knew my mum would be waiting for me at the bottom. When I finally met my mum at the bottom of the stairwell, all nerves drifted away as we headed out to my groom to be. I had decided early on that I wanted my mum to walk me down S u m m e r 2010 34

the aisle as she has been a never-ending source of love and advice throughout my life. My mum has supported me throughout my childhood, teenage years, as a single woman, as a new mother and now as a bride. My favourite moment up to this point had been when the anticipation of waiting for Gail to arrive was finally over. There had been a massive build up and my nerves were frayed until I saw her walking towards me with a massive grin, and everything just came back into perspective and I couldn’t wait to say I DO! MEET THE CYPRESS GROVE ESTATE

SOUTHERN ELEGANCE NESTLED ON A PICTURESQUE lakeside setting in the heart of Central Florida, The Cypress Grove Estate House is a classic Georgian mansion. Once through the magnolia flanked gates, the hanging moss cypress tree lined boulevard and majestic water oaks lead to the stately property, on the shores of the sparkling Lake Jessamine. The pergola styled ampitheatre and lakefront gazebo played host to the romantic ceremony attended by close family and friends.

THE WEDDING WAS ORGANISED BY A PROFESSIONAL wedding planner in Florida reflecting Gail’s simple yet chiq London style. “As I was based in the UK, I wasn’t able to be a part of the day to day planning process, nor did I have much input into the little finer details. Therefore, it was with great trepidation that I arrived at the venue. Fortunately I was absolutely delighted with all of the arrangements, The grounds were gorgeous, the violinist sounded beautiful, and the staff were really helpful and professional.

With a show stopping cupcake tower and after dinner selection of Ameretto or French Vanilla coffee, the culinary treats extended into the main meal. This consisted of chicken, roast ham, potato coquettes and a selection of salads. The other noteworthy special touches included delicious milk and white chocolate hearts with rose chocolate sprinkles which accompanied each place setting.

1

SET A BUDGET: The first step to keeping your wedding spending under control is to create a budget. Decide how much you can spend and then half it.

2

6

DO YOUR OWN HAIR AND MAKEUP: Book a session with a Mary Kay consultant for the morning of your wedding, on the pretense that you’re going to have a party the following week. You shouldn’t have to break the bank to look good on your big day. You can also save a lot of money by signing yourself up as a guinea pig for a trainee hair stylist. Just ask them to avoid any drastic cuts and to step away from the hair bleach. You’re edgy, but not crazy!

SERVE WATER AS THE MAIN DRINK: Why bother with alcohol, it makes you do silly things, it dehydrates you and it costs money. It’s recommended that you drink 8-10 glasses a day and in a hot climate like Florida, this is even more important. Top tip: Encourage your guests to drink a glass of water every hour or two. Even if they don’t feel thirsty, their body needs it. This also reduces hunger pangs, which leads us onto point two…

3 Replace your three-course meal with a light snack: you can help your body stay cooler with the things you eat. Large, heavy meals can increase your body temperature. It is recommended that you try to eat more meals throughout the day that are smaller in portion. This is also a good weight loss technique, especially when combined with extra water intake. To really save some money, ask friends and relatives to each bring a dish to your reception. Top tip: to make it more fun, you can challenge your guests to create the best dishes, with prizes to the winner in each category. (That’s entertainment covered too!)

4

10 10 Ways to save

money at your wedding

Grow your own flowers: ok this might not work if you’re going abroad as customs might have something to say about that, but if you find yourself admiring a friend’s plant, politely ask if you can have a cutting. Most gardeners will be flattered by the request. Alternatively grow from seeds! Rather than purchasing plants that are ready to be put in the ground, star t with a seed. It is much cheaper and will give you more satisfaction when you see that first sprout. Try growing plants that “give back”. For example, fruit and vegetable plants (which can also be eaten at your wedding). Plan ahead, as they may take a while to grow. This green fingered approach allows you to personally select your favourite blooms. Top tip: use a complimentary coloured ribbon to fashion your own bouquet.

5

Rent your dress: for those who aren’t hung up on keeping their wedding dress for future generations, renting can also be an

option. Consider evening gowns: who says a wedding dress has to be bespoke or made especially for that purpose? Often an evening gown purchased off the rack in a department store (especially

7

Let bridesmaids wear their own dresses: no one likes getting stuck with an expensive dress they’ll never wear again. If you allow your bridesmaids to wear their own dresses they’ll save money, and you’ll know that they’ll be comfortable wearing a dress they picked out.You can pick a certain color to coordinate them all, or help them look more similar by purchasing matching leggings to go with the dresses. 8 BUY DISCOUNT SHOES: Add the word “wedding” to anything, and the price goes up exponentially. Shoes are no exception.Try getting your shoes at a discount shoe store (where they can often be dyed to match, for a reasonable fee) or wear simple slippers. No one is really going to see them anyway, so there’s no need to splurge. Be comfortable and save money! Top tip: Buy your dream pair, cover the bottom with masking tape, and return them the next day for a full refund.

5 FAVOURITE THINGS

from the Bride and Groom

WE CAN’T PUT OUR FAVOURITE MOMENTS IN ANY ORDER, as there is so much we enjoyed about our wedding. Our first favourite moment was just being here with family and friends as we are so grateful to all who attended. We appreciate the time and effort everyone took to be with us and it’s something we will always treasure. Another thing we enjoyed, was being able to have our children act as Flower girl, Bridesmaid and Groomsman.
