IT’S ALL COMING

Together When I was first asked by Patricia to create a magazine to commemorate her first fifty years, I felt honoured and humbled. Patricia is a wonderful woman and a great friend, who puts her family and friends first, and I really wanted this to be reflected within her magazine.

F

or me, turning 50 is about recognition and excitement. I can look back over the last half century of my life and honestly say I am happy with who I have become and the lessons I have learned along the way. I am grateful for every single up and down, good and bad, opportunity and disappointment; for each and every one of them has shaped me, I believe for the better. As Oprah Winfrey once said “Nothing is ever wasted” something I truly believe. With the gift of hindsight and different life experiences, I intend to live a life of purpose. Take risks, laugh more, try new things, tick things off my bucket list, as I’ve learnt that it makes for a richer life.

The outpouring of love from her nearest and dearest was truly beautiful and I know that this has come across within these pages. If my life was to stay exactly the same, this would not fill me with much joy because I know that there are still parts of me that I still need to get to know. I’m still a relatively new Grandmother and I want to grow into that role. I look forward to what fun with my Ezra and future grandchildren lays in wait. In the very near future, I’ll be getting married, what does that look like? I’m so excited to find out. I’m looking forward to my life with positive Yes’s because I’ve finally learned to say No. This magazine is a celebration of turning fifty and loving every moment of it. Every single person in this magazine means the world to me. They have given me so much over the years and I am truly blessed and immensely grateful. Here’s to the next fifty years!

Patricia xxx

I hope you all enjoy reading this celebration of Patricia’s semi-centennial, as much as we have enjoyed putting it together.

M

y darling daughter, only the other day I was holding you in my hands, thanking God for my firstborn, I had tears in my eyes. Now as I am writing this to you, I am so happy knowing that I am blessed to have such a loving, kind and caring daughter. Patricia I am speaking for all the family in thanking you for always being there for all of us. You have helped me so much, every time I ask you for help, you and your sister are always there for me, thank you so much. Now it’s your big day and I wish you a very, very, very, very happy birthday. May God continue to watch over you and keep you safe, always.

“”

My mother was a strict but loving parent, I only really ever got in trouble for chatting back and being cheeky. I didn’t give her much trouble as I was a homebody, I only really either went to school or church with my neighbours, there was always someone to play out with. I was told to get home before dark. Fun times! -Patricia

MOTHER & FRIEND

I remember when Pat and I had been invited to a friend’s at the time, house for dinner. Marcus was still a baby in nappies and came with us. Upon being served the main dish which didn’t look or smell very appetising, there was no way either of us wanted to eat it. I told Pat to wrap the food in the napkin and stuff it into one of Marcus’s nappies. Pat didn’t even separate the bones to make it look like she had eaten some of it, she just wrapped up all the food and put it into the nappy, one time. She made the host think she enjoyed it so much, they offered her more!

When Patricia got pregnant with her firstborn Marcus, her determination to make a better life for them was truly inspiring. Her dream was to take Marcus to Disney World Florida. So she enrolled herself into college and then university. Her determination to get her degree as a single mum on benefits was outstanding and amazing and I am so proud to see all of her great achievements since gaining her degree; and indeed taking Marcus away to Disney World not once, but twice! I am so proud of the beautiful and wonderful woman she is today. Love you, Mum xx

o Mum, The big 5.0….. wow, that’s maddddd! I’m so glad I wasn’t that kid at school with the old parent who couldn’t participate in sports day, haha! I have known you for like two thirds of your life. We have been on this journey together and we ain’t stopping one bit, you’re amazing! You have always been someone I idolised because you have always been my superhero. Literally you sheltered me from a lot and never looked back. Now being a parent I know it wasn’t easy at alllllll!!!!! We were a strong unit in Kembury Gardens and Lausanne Road and will only get stronger. Always and Forever! Love you Mum, your son.

BROTHER & SON

Pat’s firstborn son Marcus has always shared a close and loving relationship with his mother. A young mother, Patricia had an ultimate inspiration which drove her to pursue further education, and encouraged her to strive for success. Using her own mother’s nurturing parenting style as her own blueprint, Patricia was proud to have a kind, caring son who also provided her with her first grandchild, Ezra. Now a father, Marcus has a lot more empathy and understanding for his mother and the great effort she put into raising him and they are able to bond even more as he navigates this new chapter.

am writing you to tell you that I love you, something I hardly ever do. I never tell you enough how much I love you and it’s something I must do. I need to let you know Mother, how much you really mean to me. So I’m telling you now, that you mean the world to me. I need to thank you deeply, for all you do for me. Your unconditional love toward me means a lot to me. You’ve never turned your back on me and I know it’s something you’ll never do. Anytime I need someone to talk to, you’re always there to help me through and anytime I need a favor, you always seem to be there, too. There’s nothing in this world that I could do, to pay you back for all you do. When God gave me to you, That’s the best thing he could ever do, So this poem is dedicated to you Because I don’t know how else to say ...Thank you.

From the moment I was conceived to the present day, you’ve cherished me and shown me love beyond human and magical capabilities; and for that I am grateful. I know that me and Juno can be difficult sometimes but I’m sure these were challenges engineered by the universe for you to overcome. A mother protects their children, guides them and entrusts the house after they get married and don’t allow their eldest child to move back in. Your food is a gift from the astral realm, marinated in the pots of Uganda and eaten by your sons. Mi madre, I love ya and hope you don’t forget about Juno when you get married!

SOPHIE

M

y beautiful big sister… Patricia My first best friend, my mentor and my shining star of inspiration. You are the best person I know. Inside and out, your beautiful soul radiates around you, giving a glow like noone else. God truly highly favoured me when he gave me you for a big sister. You have loved me, looked after me, protected me, guided me, taught me laughed and cried with me, always supported me, encouraged me to get out of my comfort zone and go for my dreams. Thank you sooo much. You have shared your special journey of motherhood with me and shown me how to be a strong woman with a caring and giving heart. All these actions have helped me be who I am today. I have watched you accomplish so many wonderful things and feel privileged to have been able to support you and celebrate your dreams and goals. I am over the top proud of you and show off that you’re MY big sister. You are truly are an amazing person and sister. I treasure each moment of our relationship as it grows from strength to strength. For all the times I was a pain in the butt, I’m sorry. I thank you for your patience, tolerance and consistent love for me. You deserve ALL the happiness in the world. I pray for God to continue to highly favour and gift you abundantly each day with good health, love, happiness, joy, peace and grace. From your little sister.

SISTER & FRIEND

I’ve never known life without my big sister and I never hope to. Pat has always been there for me, selflessly putting others before herself. Any problems I face, big or small, I know that she’s just at the other end of the phone, or a whatsapp message! She’s a wonderful mother, and now grandmother - and it’s wonderful to watch; her love, guidance and patience is amazing, and we’re blessed to have her, she’s a best friend as well as a sister. As she embraces her fiftieth year, I wish her nothing but success, happiness and opportinities, as I know that noone deserves it more.

I remember once being at one of many house parties with my sister. We both had our usual white plastic cup of drink and was doing a little two step… All of a sudden I feel what felt like water running down my leg… I look up no leak.. I look left nothing, I look to my right and see my sister standing there, fully sleeping and slowly tipping her drink onto me! I shrug her and she tells me she was just about to start dreaming…Dreaming!!! How are you even sleeping in a loud house party with big speakers booming big bass line music lol?!?!? Another incident that stands out was going to a comedy show with my sister when she was heavily pregnant with Rashaan. We had to walk up a few flights of stairs to get to our seats in the theatre. Unbeknownst to us there was a guy standing a few steps ahead of us who decided to imitate the sound of a very big vicious dog barking, which I have to say sounded very realistic. Now, everyone knows that I am the one who is petrified of dogs, but before I could even think of my getaway, my sister had one hand on her bump and the other on the banister and was racing like some athlete down the stairs! I realised it was a hoax and worried she would hurt herself, I had to run after her to tell her to stop running. You’d think I could catch an eight month pregnant woman but bwoy, I have to say she was fassssst…..! Love you sis!

ord on the street is that the message I sent you on your birthday had you in tears. You did say that at the time, but I thought you meant it figuratively. That message was the basis of what I wanted to say for your book and if I had any sense, I’d have saved it for that, so here we go again. I don’t think that I’ve ever truly expressed the depth of my gratitude to you for the part you played in one of THE most amazing experiences of my life. I had just “changed” (left before I was expelled) schools and had started attending Stockwell Park. They had an annual skiing trip to Austria (at Tulse Hill, the only place they took us was to Brixton police station) I begged Ma to let me go, knowing the answer before even speaking to her (we poor innit). Somehow you managed to get Ma to change her mind. I don’t know how you did it, but I’ll be forever grateful that you did. That was the first time I realised you were a practitioner of what is now called #BlackGirlMagic. You have always been a pioneer in my eyes. The first to fly the nest. First to expand our tribe and first to pick me up when life kicks my arse (again). During my turbulent teens, whenever I wanted to be a better version of what I was capable of being, I would look at my moral compass and follow the example you set, which makes you my true north. You have come such a long way from a braces-having, long socks-wearing bookworm and it has been a privilege to bare witness to your metamorphosis from caterpillar to beautiful Black butterfly. Speaking of bookworms, I have to credit you for my love of all things literary. For it was you that tuned me onto the joy of immersing oneself in a book. This allowed me to escape from my (sometimes harsh) reality, journey to different places around the globe and go to infinity and beyond. The book in question was “Tales of a fourth grade nothing” by Judy Blume and it changed my life. As I mentioned in the message I sent you on your birthday, you are more than just my big sister, you are my soulmate in the true sense of the word and I look forward to seeing you next lifetime. Not for a long time yet though! Shaun

MEET THE BROS

O

Four siblings all with very different personalities, Pat is the quintessential big sister to them all

h, having a big sister, one of the most precious and special bonds you can have in life. Growing up with an older sister is a blessing in more ways than one. On top of all of the memorable times you share with her, you also learn a lot from her, too. Whether she is actually teaching you something, or you have just picked up tips from her by watching watch she does, everything you learn has importance in some way. “I smile because you’re my sister, I laugh because you can’t do anything about it.” - Unknown Growing up with an older sister that is two and a half years older than me has taught me a lot more than I ever realised. When looking back on my childhood, I realise that there is a lot that I didn’t do because my sister tried it and either she or my parents told me not to. My older sister and I are two completely different people. Yes, we have similarities, but there are so many things that we differ on, but growing up with an older sister taught me that I am never alone. She’s always there for me, no matter what. Whenever we fought as kids--and even now, it takes some time, but we always make up eventually. We love each other so nothing else matters. - Wayne

God and I don’t really talk much. Childhood PTSD. Years spent in St Andrew’s church and a million other reasons. Even though the Heavenly Father and I are estranged, the one thing I big him up for is ensuring he put an angel within my circle. Thank you for your guidance, love, wisdom and for showing me how to be a decent human being during my dark teenage years. You have always been the standard to which I aspire, and I mean standard in the old school way. As in the flag bearing coat of arms, which you raise when going to war. Through your example, I raised my standards. Many moons ago, in one of my many English GCSE essays, I wrote that you were my second mother. This still holds true to this day. There are none among us who could be the eldest of our siblings. To watch you blossom like the middle name bestowed upon you, has been a joy. From nerdy geek (before that was a thing), to Mother to Jaja. You continue to amaze and inspire me. To the most beautiful human I know. Love Always xx Shaun

appy 50th, my beautiful Patricia, I’ve found this difficult to write because it’s really hard for me to quantify how much you mean to me….it’s immeasurable. From when we first met twenty something years ago and you sent my young man hormones crazy, to this present day. You have consistently been amazing and I thank you for it. Your love for people, your love for me, your love for fun, and your bottom!!! …. You always make me smile and I love you for being the person you are. Keep being special, Richard.

t first glance I thought yeah, yeah; I’ve mastered healthy relationships. I’m engaged to a wonderful man and I’m surrounded by loving family and friends. But the little internal voice said ‘you know the truth’ and the truth is that the most important relationship, the one with myself, is something I’m still mastering. I have fitness and health goals as well as business and personal goals and my relationship with them is at times negative and unsupportive. I have hypertension and I’m pre-diabetic but sometimes my food addiction wins. When I choose to not focus on my business, my relationship with me suffers as I’m not travelling in the direction I want to go in. I need more attention not from you but from me. My relationship with me needs more love, attention and nurturing but each day I turn up the love dial one notch at a time and make time to remember me. It’s a struggle, but having a great man supporting me keeps me grounded and balanced in ways I never imagined and I’m blessed and feel myself becoming a better person each and every day. It’s a wonderful thing to find your soulmate. I love that Richard has got me 100%, I can totally rely on him. I can be me with no make up, airs or graces. I get to be me totally which is amazing and it’s lovely to have his support. He guides me and reminds me of the beautiful person I am when I forget. He’s my safe place and my sweet spot. He is my first thought in the morning and my last at night as I’m giving thanks for him. I say that he is my reward for giving love another chance. Richard loves the way I love him, he appreciates my curves and my warm and generous nature. He loves my sense of fun and my wacky sense of humour, which he shares. He loves that I am there for him 100% as I am his biggest supporter.

When did you realise it was love? I loved Richard way back in the 90’s, but we parted company around 1994 after a brief romance. The Girl With

I

t was the end of the swinging sixties, the Victoria Line on the London Underground had just opened and Martin Luther King was making great change in America. It was in this climate that Saida Sebaduka laboured in Annie McCall Maternity Hospital in Jeffreys Road, Stockwell on March 31st 1968. Two weeks late and weighing a little over 6 lbs, Patricia Campbell was born, screaming and perfectly formed. A childhood in the seventies and eighties was certainly an experience... “So much is different then from now. I remember life before the internet, mobile phones, CD players and microwave ovens. When I was born, there were only three TV channels in the UK. BBC1, BBC2 and ITV, which shut down overnight. There was no Breakfast TV. The milkman made daily deliveries, so you didn’t need to go to the shops to get your milk. I didn’t grow up with central heating, so the paraffin heater was used a lot to keep the flat warm. I remember regularly having to go to the paraffin shop to get refills.

There was a lot more eating at home, as my mum always cooked. Takeaways were a ‘once in a blue moon’ treat. Life was simple, but good.” Coming from a big family, her mother Saida, or Sue as she is often known, was born in Makerere, Uganda in 1948, impressively one of approximately 58 children. Patricia’s grandfather had six wives and worked to get Saida to the UK. Arriving in the summer of 1963 when she was fourteen, she attended Garrett Green School in Wandsworth. Meeting Patricia’s father Vincent Campbell, a Jamaican national who came to the UK in 1960, they got along well and a romance soon followed. One of thirteen children, Vincent was born into a large family in St Ann’s Jamaica in 1937 and like many West Indians, worked for British Rail and Ford once in England. Pat shares further “I was quiet, loved to read and Brixton library was my favourite place to be. As I never wanted to get in trouble, I was a people pleaser.” A childhood hero was Martin Luther King Jr, and Patricia remembers key events such as Mandela leaving prison and Ali being the best Heavyweight boxer in the world. quite simple, just be true to yourself, kind to others, enjoy

he eldest of three brothers Wayne, Paul and Shaun and a sister, Sophie; Patricia grew up surrounded by love, laughter and boisterous rough play. “I grew up in a three bedroom flat in Clapham. We lived there until I was fourteen. I remember fighting with my brothers but as the eldest, I had a lot of responsibility and I had to keep them in order so I didn’t get in trouble. That flat was a bit cramped for me and my four siblings, but we made it work.” A quiet and mainly studious child, Patricia enjoyed books and her inquisitive nature wasn’t hugely challenged. “My mother was the strict parent, I only really ever got in trouble for chatting back and being cheeky. However, I really only either went to school or church with my neighbours, so I kept it quite local and there was always someone to play out with.” Teen years were pretty uneventful, spent studying, babysitting and living life surrounded by family. So it was all the more surprising when Patricia went on her first date at eighteen. Travelling to the cinema to see the latest horror flick, Nightmare on Elm Street, Patricia loved a good scare and felt like a real grown up.

Growing from a shy, introverted teenager to a fun loving woman, fast forward a few years and her firstborn son, Marcus Nathaniel arrived in July of 1989. Nine years later, Rashaan Dominic came along completing the family. “I had so much fun with my sons. I wanted them to grow up surrounded by love and in an environment where they could express themselves and feel confident in their own skin. One of the ways that I wanted them to explore and develop their identity is through going to new places and experiencing different cultures.”

Synch To Pat, we have a 20 year relationship during which we have laughed, cried, healed, danced and sung together (Destiny’s Child – Barbados 2002!). During that time you have been a consistent reflection of all that is good in humanity. You have served the homeless at Christmas, helped those in pain and fed the hungry at family occasions! So as you arrive at this golden age, I wish all the goodness that you put out to be showered on you until you decide you’ve had enough to call it your best life. Love always, Carine xx

Calming, soothing, a fountain of knowledge in a desert of confusion is how I would describe Patricia. A long time friend of my mum, Pauline, Pat has been a part of my life since I was a child. Our first family holiday to Florida when I was fifteen included Pat and Marcus and it was great. Mum was designated driver and Pat was map lady. Her calm direction as she navigated the unfamiliar American highways at night is a particular standout memory. It was part of an unforgettable holiday we repeated in 2011...

As Pat now reaches a milestone of 50 years, I pray that the next fifty brings her continued health, wealth and happiness and that she realises how beloved, valued and irreplaceable she is to us all. An honorary aunty to me amongst my mother’s other three sisters. Love you Pat, stay blessed. God bless, Krystle xxx

here are certain people who make the world a better place just by being in it. Pat, you are one of those people. Your kindness, compassion, spirituality, warm heart, love and support is always there for people when they need a friend. You will do anything to see someone smile. You are beautiful inside and out. We wish you a very Happy 50th Birthday. We Love You.

D

ear Aunty Pat, It’s easy to overlook certain things because we are so used to them being in our lives, such as having a warm bed, hot water, and a roof over our heads. The same can go for people. Only when I take the time to really think about it through do I realise how much of a positive influence you have had in my life. You consistently support me in whatever I do and have motivated me to become better than I thought I could have ever been. There are countless small acts of kindness that you do, asking for nothing in return, like the shopping trip to Diesel and all the cooking you do for the family gatherings (which wouldn’t be the same without your food!). I remember that moment when you called me your hero, and I don’t know if you would have ever predicted how much hearing that has helped to push me to live up to that and how much it bolstered my self-confidence. You are one of my biggest role models and if I grow up to have even a shred of your determination, kindness, wisdom, thoughtfulness or strength, I will have been blessed. Thank you for all you have done for me and have a very happy birthday.

I was unsure as a teenager, scared to admit what I liked and didn’t like. I cared about what others thought about me. Now I feel so much more self assured and I know who I am, I know what my talents and gifts are. -Patricia

Being Okay

’ve been talking a lot about space and acceptance because they present opportunities for a lot of growth. I’m learning to accept that there are situations in the past I would have fought hard to control and resolve, because I used to be uncomfortable with someone thinking they had me all wrong. What I’m learning is that I have to be okay with not being okay. I have to be okay with another’s perception of me, even if I think it’s unfair. I’m learning to see past the pain and the hurt of the situation and trying to see why this is happening for me and the other party involved. I’m allowing the situation space and hoping and praying that this space is just seen as that, not seen as stubbornness, ignorance, as if I’m holding onto negative feelings. Even if it’s seen as that, should I really care? I think that’s my bruised ego trying to have a say. This is a lesson in patience, trust and self-love, as I’m developing new personal boundaries out of love for me and the other person. What I know I must do is see this situation through the eyes of love, for everyone involved and trust that with space, time and acceptance, all will grow and all will be resolved.

P

uerto Rico is a Caribbean island and unincorporated U.S. territory with a landscape of mountains, waterfalls and the El Yunque tropical rainforest. In San Juan, the capital and largest city, the Isla Verde area is known for its hotel strip, beach bars and casinos. Its Old San Juan neighborhood features colorful Spanish colonial buildings and El Morro and La Fortaleza; massive, centuries-old fortresses. Hurricane Maria is regarded as the worst natural disaster on record to affect Dominica and Puerto Rico, and is also the deadliest Atlantic hurricane since Jeanne in 2004. On August 28, 2018 (nearly a year after the hurricane), Puerto Rico revised their official tally of 64 killed in the hurricane up to 2,975 making the total 3,057.

riginally populated by the indigenous Taíno people, Puerto Rico was colonized by Spain following the arrival of Christopher Columbus in 1493. It was contested by the French, Dutch, and British, but remained a Spanish possession for the next four centuries. The island’s cultural and demographic landscapes were shaped by the displacement and assimilation of the native population, the forced migration of African slaves, and settlement from the Canary Islands and Andalusia. In the Spanish Empire, Puerto Rico played a secondary but strategic role compared to wealthier colonies like Peru and New Spain. Spain’s distant administrative control continued up to the end of the 19th century, producing a distinctive creole Hispanic culture and language that combined indigenous, African, and European elements.

Empowe The Power Of

ALLOWING SPACE

This is a powerful lesson for me as I am examining where I need to allow space in my life. I have been reminded time and time again by my loved ones that I am only human, that I am not perfect...

I

’m learning more and more each day that allowing space between you and a situation can help to reveal the appropriate action to take. I had employed the services of a therapist, paid upfront for a number of sessions. The first few sessions were easy to book and I got so much value from attending them. I loved the care and attention paid by the professionals. When it came to booking another session, it was unsuccessful and the therapist would take an age to reply to requests. Eventually after about five weeks of trying, I managed to get something in the diary. I went for my session at the agreed time and the therapist wasn’t there. I called, knocked no response. Before I got annoyed, I said a quick

erment prayer and asked for guidance on how to handle this situation. I knew that flaring up wasn’t the right response in that moment, even though I had spent 90 minutes travelling to my appointment. The therapist contacted me later on that day to apologise and explain that there was an emergency. I was okay-ish with that and hoped all was okay with them. I then tried to rebook the appointment and there was radio silence, no engagement or acknowledgement from them. This went on for about a month. I was far from happy. I wanted to send them a message telling them I wanted a refund, cuss them out for being a lying thieving so and so, expose them on social media, let the world know they were a fraud!! I didn’t do this, again I prayed on it and gave it space. `I needed the space

to allow the right message to emerge, without all the sting of the emotion attached. After about two weeks of letting it marinade, I sent a communication to the therapist. I acknowledged that they are excellent at what they do, but lacked professionalism and integrity. I acknowledged that I liked them and appreciated the work we had done together thus far. I said that I would have been willing to be flexible with regards to timing etc. but was denied this through their lack of communication. The result of this was that the therapist contacted me straight away and apologised profusely and thanked me for bringing something so big to their attention. They admitted that my message was akin to a megawatt

lightbulb shining on them and showing them where they had fallen short recently and where they were not in alignment with their own levels of integrity. It was such a lovely call and I felt good about the part I played in their enlightenment. I gave thanks for actually paying attention to the little voice inside - my intuition. The upshot is that we have continued our sessions with a deeper level of love and understanding. For me, I am pleased, I gave the situation space and by doing so I didn’t get caught up with the negative chat of the ego, which would have led to take an action which I may have regretted. I remained empowered and in alignment with my own integrity and the outcome was all the better for it. Space is vital but sometimes we just don’t allow ourselves enough of it.

Mermaid

P

at and I met back in the 1990s, we were young single parents, both trying to create a better life for our children. We met through a third party and used to go raving as a group, shaking a leg to Shake and Finger pop, Soul2Soul and the like. Those were the days, our week would be; study in the week, work on a Saturday, kids sent to the grandparents for the weekend and rave Saturday night. Sundays were spent at mums with the rest of the family. Then on Monday, it would all start again! We always got on well and decided to go on holiday together. When I told her my mum would be coming she was a little wary, but once she met my mum all fears were gone. Our first holiday was to Florida. I made a deal that as long as I didn’t have to cook or wash up, I was happy to do all the driving. In those days there was no Sat Nav so we had to rely on printed maps. Pat was a great navigator and we had the most fabulous time. This was the start of many happy times together, from themed parties to big picnics in the park for our eldest children, whose birthdays are in late July, a day apart, we always made the most of what we had.

TALES Back in the nineties and early 2000s when I was studying, I ran a small clothing company buying and selling ladieswear and putting on fashion shows. Pat was one of my models and took pride in presenting the brand to the best of her ability. Pat is loyal, reliable, honest, caring and calm in any situation. She is so level-headed and does not panic, and is the kind of person you want around you in an emergency. Like the time her 18 month old son decided he wanted to leave the park we were hanging out in, to walk out of the park by himself and attempt to cross the main road. Pat kept her cool when all around her was panicking and arguing and eventually her son was found. Another time I parked my mum’s car on a certain road when we went to a rave. When we came out the club, after walking up and down for a while I couldn’t find it. We called the police and I had to embarrassingly tell them I didn’t know the registration, or anything about the car. While I was freaking out, Pat stayed cool which actually calmed me down. Even though she was laughing at me. We eventfully realised we were looking for the car on the wrong road - typical!

Pauline

“”

It’s been a great journey and there are so many stories I could tell, throughout our friendship we have never had an argument or disagreement, we have respect for one another and I see her as a wonderful role model not just for me but for all the women in her life. -Pauline xx

very memorable Puerto Rican moment was when we all visited the old town in San Juan and had an afternoon of Pina Coladas sitting outside a bar, singing Bob Marley and laughing until my belly hurt. Then the madness taking pictures with parrots afterwards and ordering a seafood platter which my sister and I shared. My sister flicked one of the baby octopus’ onto Siobhan’s chest. It looked like a baby alien landed on her. I will never forget Siobhan’s reaction, it will always make me laugh.... Just being together with a great group of ladies, felt like being a part of a loving sisterhood. We laughed, drank, dressed up, danced, shopped, supported each other and made bonds even stronger. My real favourite moments were just seeing my sister’s reaction to all the surprises planned for her through out the trip. Her reaction to all the love she got from the group was also amazing to witness.

Never far from my thoughts are memories of Puerto Rico, Pat celebrating her 50th birthday and her looking stunning! The girls sunbathing on the beach, drinking rum, taking pictures and just living their best lives. I still recall the smiles shown on everyone faces, while taking in all the beauty around them. I am so glad to have been part of this amazing holiday, sharing all the laughter and having an unforgettable time. -Sumaya

Sister T

he trip to Puerto Rico to celebrate my sister’s 50th birthday was really amazing in so many ways. It is a trip I will cherish the memories of forever. I enjoyed many highlights during this holiday, way too many to list but here are a few more.... Trying to co-ordinate with the ladies to help me decorate the hotel room for my sister as she slept so that she would be surprised when she woke up on her birthday. Trying to sneak out the decorations and wait for my sister to fall asleep, then creep about in the dark whilst decorating the room was crazy funny... and yes she was surprised...! Surprising my sister with a pj party after getting her glammed up for ‘Sexy Sinorita’ night. This turned into a fashion show and roof top party which was soooo much fun..... I had so many good times with all the ladies, especially on the beach. One of my favourite times was on my sister’s actual birthday and we all dressed in black and white and took photos including the Wakanda pose! I absolutely loved all our themes, we all looked fantastic each and every time!!! Another great time for me was doing a photo shoot with just me and my sister on the beach. We got to spend time together being sisters and having fun posing for pictures like we were models....priceless! A truly wonderful holiday, thanks Sis!

I

am most grateful and honoured that I was part of the Puerto Rico posse to celebrate with the lovely, gracious Patricia. I got to meet many new friends along the way with the bonus of exploring a new country. The hotel was really nice and well placed with nearby restaurants and shops to feed my frenzy! It was a bonus that we had the benefit of the beach at the sister hotel nearby. We had some fantastic moments bonding by the sea, drinking, chilling and chatting in a perfect setting. I had a lot of fun with the dressing up occasions, despite my mishap with damaged clothing prior to arrival! The birthday girl herself looked exquisite and sexy in her gold finery. That outfit was rocking it and Pat, you looked 100% magnificent, poised and stylish without even trying. I noticed your strength of character and your ability to keep a cool head. Please carry on flying that flag girl, because you have those little things that can’t be bought, like humility and courage. I particularly enjoyed the roof area of our hotel, where I spent many a day reading my books to my hearts content. I’ve never been sunburnt before, but hey, what’s a burnt nose when you are relaxed and recharging your batteries in the 90 degree sunshine in Peurto Rico!! Most of all, thanks for letting me be a part of your 50th birthday celebrations. Heres’s looking forward to next time. Say the place, name the date and my case is packed!
