PRESENTER

Stephen Handisides, your leading man for all things cosmetic

T

his Morning’s newest expert, Stephen Handisides, is a one stop shop for all advice and information on the latest surgical and non-surgical procedures and the truth behind them. Presenter and international model, including proud holder of Specsavers’ ‘Spectacle Wearer of the Year 2006’, Stephen has been educating the UK in all matters related to cosmetic surgery, health, well-being and fitness. Born and raised in Auckland, New Zealand, Stephen is no stranger to the beauty industries and has been shocked, intrigued and astounded by the treatments, developments and attitudes towards cosmetic procedures not just in the UK, but across the world.

Having seen increasing numbers of people turning to cosmetic enhancements, Stephen has witnessed how certain elements within the industry have been very difficult to regulate. MyFaceMyBody.com was launched as part of Stephen’s mission to offer an impartial outlet that informs and supports, allowing audiences to find accurate information on practitioners, treatments and developments, with the peace of mind that they will be pointed in a safe direction should they wish to go ahead.

REPORTER Shining the spotlight on the cosmetics industry

H

aving both worked and appeared within the beauty industry for many years, Stephen was fed up with seeing the negative impact caused by the work of unlicensed, and sometimes unscrupulous practitioners. As a result, he launched MyFaceMyBody. com in February 2009. The website now carries over 10,000 pages and 1000 educational videos of independent treatment advice, and comprehensive news and events. Stephen also pioneered the UK’s first television programme dedicated to cosmetic surgery, non-surgical procedures, dentistry and wellbeing, and has broadcast three successful series of the MyFaceMyBody show on Sky TV.

Not afraid to get his hands dirty... Each episode is researched, written and presented by Stephen and his team, and designed to be entertaining and engaging as well as educational.

“

MyFaceMyBody has attracted some of the best experts in their fields which assures consumers that they are getting the best service possible. The brand has grown rapidly over the last couple of years as a trusted consumer resource which offers impartial advice about cosmetic surgery and aesthetic treatments. The site endeavours to provide consumers with independent and unbiased information and advice so they feel confident in the decisions they ultimately make.

The programme and site encourages viewers to undertake regular polls and surveys, bringing fresh statistics and trend information each month on interesting topics. The show also covers the latest international news, with items on clinics, procedures and trends from around the world.

Renowned celebrity beauty consultant Stephen Handisides

T

he beauty sector is a fast moving, exciting industry to work in,’ says Stephen Handisides, celebrity beauty consultant (pictured, above). ‘Forever reinventing itself and changing to match the season’s fashions — it is never boring! Of course, such a fast pace can make it a bit bewildering for the average consumer. ‘Is hot pink still, well, hot? Is that new laser treatment for fighting wrinkles really better than traditional injectables? In this article, I’ll help navigate you through the maze and ensure you’re always ahead of the crowd.’

TOP TIPS FOR CHOOSING A PRACTITIONER ‘There has been a considerable rise in risky practices and dodgy practitioners, so here

are a few tips to make sure you get the best treatments in safe hands,’ says Stephen. ‘It’s important that when considering any treatment, you do your research online to look at the pros and cons of different treatment options. Use resources such as www.myfacemybody.com so you can do your research and find out the questions other consumers have been asking about the cosmetic surgery and beauty industry.’ ‘Have a thorough consultation with a practitioner who specialises in the treatment you are having. Ask how many treatments they have performed and what type of training they have undertaken.’ ‘Ask your practitioner about their qualifications; it’s vital they have a medical background. Procedures have to be performed in a clinical environment.’ ‘Look at previous cases studies where people similar to your situation have had the same cosmetic procedures.’

TOP CELEBRITY TREATMENTS

Why do celebrities always get to try out the new treatments before anyone else? It’s not because they are guinea pigs; it’s because these days, they know they have to stay looking hot and sexy. Many well-known A-listers have reportedly taken to enjoying the brilliant Elemis Arabian Jewel Ritual treatment. This costs around £175 and takes two and a half hours. It might be pricey and time consuming, but for this kind of money, you’ll be well and truly pampered! In the ‘steam temple’, you will be smothered in medical mud for a deep skin cleanse. Next, you’ll receive a luxurious Frangipani body nourish wrap to hydrate your skin and really make it glow. The final stage is a massage to loosen the limbs and melt away any tight muscle knots.

‘Ensure the practitioner has a good aftercare programme in place so if you have any questions or problems post treatment, they are easily contactable.’

THE MINERAL MIRACLE ‘Sales of mineral make-up have been steadily increasing year-on-year for the last few years and interest has been growing across the age range,’ says Stephen. ‘The rising trend for mineral make-up matches the nation’s growing desire to use products which are healthier, much more environmentally friendly and natural. Mineral cosmetics are made from minerals in their

purest form, and fans of the products say they give you a flawless airbrushed finish, unlike anything they’ve experienced with the conventional make-up that they use. ‘Traditional make-up tends to have more ingredients that might cause irritation and cause outbreaks on sensitive skin. So, if you have this type of complexion, you might find that mineral make-up is much more delicate. ‘First-time users of mineral make-up could start by experimenting with products such as gloMinerals Water Resistant Mascara – a water resistant, lengthening and volumising formulation that delivers high intensity colour for long-lasting, dramatic lashes. ‘You will also be able to test the benefits of mineral make-up with a lipstick. The popular gloMinerals range is formulated with a blend of antioxidants, including vitamins A, C, E and green tea, plus titanium dioxide, which provides natural broad spectrum UV protection, to keep lips healthy while looking beautiful. Visit www.glo-minerals.com’

UNFORTUNATE INKING? ‘Tattoo removal has never been 100% successful and the process is painful and expensive – and that’s where the new PicoSure method comes in,’ says Stephen. ‘PicoSure (www.picosure.com) differs from traditional laser removal in two ways: it can deliver a shorter pulse of energy (in the pico-second range, rather than the nanosecond range used by other lasers) and it fragments ink particles with a force akin to a shock wave, rather than with heat. This treats your tattoo more aggressively but with less risk of damaging the surrounding cells, resulting in less scarring and skin damage marks. You only need around four sessions with PicoSure and the machine received FDA approval last year, so it’s perfectly safe.’
