Try this For comfort and style, a wrap around dress works well for all shapes and sizes

Stuck for what to wear for a destination occasion? Here are a few tips to help you get started.

T

he first thing you should do is to find out the colours of the wedding party. If this was not indicated on the invitation, use your connections with the couple and their families to find out. From your invitation, you should know the venue and time of the ceremony and reception. This will help you to determine how to dress properly for the occasion. This will answer some of the most important questions in your mind, such as: Is it a formal event? Should I be prepared for the heat? Do I have a long distance to walk? Should I wear comfortable shoes? How do I wear my hair? I could go on. A church, civic centre, town hall or a hotel conference room are sure bets it’s formal or semi-formal affair. A garden wedding is an entirely different matter. So too is a beach wedding. You want to look as good as everyone else, not stick out like a sore thumb. Most of all, you must be comfortable to make it through the ceremony and reception.

Remember, you’ll be dressed up for at least a few hours, unless you forget your manners and leave early, right after the groom kisses the bride. Ladies, you can go all out for a this occasion, with a long and glamorous evening dress. Hold the beading and sequins unless you know that it’s a black-tie event. Bring out the diamonds, rubies and precious stones or your thrifty, but expensive-looking bling. If you’re wearing strapless or spaghetti strap dress, this is the time to bring along a very extravagant shawl. Gentlemen, you may wear a dark suit with a really nice dress shirt and matching tie. Make sure your tie is a solid colour, preferably the same colour as the shirt. Get the look Remember, you’re not going to Make the most the office. Wear a tuxedo for of the sun keep it black-tie and black-tie-optional cute and short evening weddings; however it’s best to stick with the traditional tux, unless the invitation specifies creative black tie. Ladies, formal daytime weddings are quite rare; however, choose a short cocktail dress for a formal daytime wedding, making sure it’s not too revealing. And, no flowers please. If you’re wearing a dress that’s strapless, has spaghetti straps, or a deep neckline, bring a nice lace shawl or a matching satin jacket for a religious wedding. You may opt for a nice suit, instead, something in a light shade that is well-tailored, no dark frumpy suits, because you don’t want to look as though you are heading into or just popped out from work., Get the look Make an entrance in a bright orange cocktail dress

Rose Gold Watch For that extra special touch, matched with antique finished clutch

Try this For something different. Two piece lace, with narrow taupe skirt for a sophisticated finish

Getting Married in Cayman Islands The Cayman Islands is a great choice for a Destination Wedding. First of all, it is very easy and you will have glorious sunshine and a truly magical experience. Couples can honeymoon with Sandals specialist services

The most popular choice for weddings in the Cayman Islands is the beach. Although there are few private beaches, your wedding celebrant will know which beaches are most crowded, and avoid them. No wedding in the Cayman Islands can be performed behind locked doors, and you will also need two witnesses over 18 years of age. Your Wedding Celebrant can provide witnesses if there are just the two of you. Many people choose to have a very simple wedding on the beach. The simplist wedding will include the Special Marriage License, the Wedding Ceremony, the Wedding Celebrant, and you will get a certified copy of the Marriage Certificate to take away with you. You can also choose to have flowers, wedding cake, champagne, photography etc. all arranged by your wedding planner. Many people say they want to plan their own wedding, and a wedding. planner is not essential. Many couples who have had a Destination Wedding will say that a wedding planner for a Destination Wedding is money well spent, and need not be expensive. Remember this is your wedding planner’s home, and he or she will know where to get the best deals, and how to make sure your special day goes smoothly. If for example, there is a hiccup, like someone forgot their divorce decree at home, your wedding planner will know what to do. Besides, the whole point of a Destination wedding is for you to relax, and let someone else worry. i n f o @ w e d d i n g s b y l i s a l e e . c o m

Your Wedding Celebrant will tailor your renewal vows to suit you, include children if you wish, and give you a Renewal Certificate which will be a record of your ceremony. Some companies will also do Commitment ceremonies, or bethrothal ceremonies for those couples who for one reason or another might not be ready to get married yet. These are much like Renewal ceremonies, in that there are no legal requirements, but there are “promises” etc. and you will get a Certificate which records the event. Couples, including those arriving by cruise ship, can marry the same day they arrive in the Cayman Islands. Just be sure to have the following: 1. a non-residents marriage license, and... 2. a letter from the authorized Marriage Officer who is to officiate. Applications for non-resident marriage licenses ($250 U.S.) and a list of licensed Marriage Officers can be obtained from the Passport and Corporate Services Office. You will also need to provide: Proof of citizenship and age Passport or an original/certified copy of birth certificate with photo identification (18 is the minimum legal age without parental consent) Proof of marital status (legal divorce decree or death certificate, if applicable) Cayman Islands Immigration Department card, or Cayman Islands international embarkation/ disembarkation card for cruise ship passengers.

GETTING

Consider these top four tips when planning your overseas wedding.

1) Ensure you have made preparations to secure your citizenship and legal documents before you travel. Some islands won’t allow you to get married if you have not been in residence there for over three days. 2) Be sure to include in your budget a wedding planner’s services, even if you have a been allocated a venue co-ordinator, they are not primarily serving your interests and will often not co-ordinate anything outside of your venue.

4)Avoid relying solely on family and friends to do jobs for you. It’s more effective to give all tasks including those small niggily jobs to your wedding planner. This way everyone can be stress free and concentrate on having a great time. Pauline Downie, www.itsmymagazine.com

3) When choosing your wedding dress, consider the fabric and try to avoid taffeta or fabrics that will crush easily. Go for a satin or silk which are both able to steam in the bathroom. Be sure to pack in tissue paper as this will also prevent static.

The Magdalena Grand Beach Resort is nestled in the tropical Tobago Plantations Estate, a 750-acre gated community of luxury Tobago suites, villas, condos and bungalows around the Tobago Plantations PGA designed Championship (18 holes) Tobago golf course. Situated along two and one-half miles of beach and coastline the grounds offer nature trails and canopy walks through a virgin mangrove forest at one of the finest resorts in Tobago. “Magdalena” was the original name of Tobago, derived from the name of one of Christopher Columbus’ ships, and the name pays homage to the island’s rich history, tradition, and people. Here are a few other great places to get married in Tobago Pigeon Point: With its white-sand beach, Pigeon Point is naturally a popular choice for weddings, but given its popularity with bathers, don’t expect total privacy. For raw, natural beauty look elsewhere Coco Reef: Probably the most popular hotel for weddings. Can cater for large numbers and accommodate most requests. Also one of the only luxury hotels on the island, so it’s not cheap. Entertainment is easy to organise and nothing’s a problem – there’s even a hair salon on site Castara: The beach is a real favourite with tourists and the village is very traditionally Tobagonian. Some of the best sunsets can be seen at Castara, or from the roads that wind down into it, along the Caribbean coast Magdalena Grand Beach Resort: The largest hotel on the island. Good conference facilities. Good for indoor weddings.
