We urge you to attend NSO during June or July. It’s the best way to register for classes and prepare for your first year at IU. If you can’t come in the summer, you will be required to attend the late August program just prior to Welcome Week. Look for information about both programs at fye.indiana.edu.

You’ll meet with an academic advisor, plan your course schedule, and register for classes. ll Hoosier Life. We’ll help prepare you for college with information about roommates, safety, financial responsibilities, support services, involvement, and much more.
NSO is just the beginning Take a look at the other ways we help make your first year a great one: ll Welcome Week. With both required and optional events, activities that are academic, social, large and small, Welcome Week is designed to help you connect with the resources, opportunities, traditions, and culture of IU. Look for the Freshman Induction Ceremony, job fairs, academic meetings, festivals, and more. Check it out at fye.indiana.edu/orientation/welcome-week. ll First Year Programs. Our Experience IU program is designed to help you explore all that IU has to offer. Explore events celebrating inclusivity, the arts, academics and careers, service and leadership, and health and wellness. Learn more at fye.indiana.edu/programs-events.
Program for parents and guests Parents and family are an important part of your IU experience and we have a program just for them. They’ll get tips for helping you make the transition to IU and will learn about the resources, programs, and support in place for your success. We recommend that at least one parent/guardian attends NSO with you.
FYE supports the optimal first-year experience: self-exploration, cultural understanding, academic commitment, community membership, and leadership growth. We will help you to EXPLORE the many opportunities awaiting you, find a place where you BELONG, and SUCCEED in your first year and beyond.
Fees A nonrefundable, required New Student Orientation/First Year Programs fee will be included in your first IU tuition and fees billing. You do not need to pay it up front, but are responsible for the fee once you reserve your space at NSO.
