Singing with the Philadelphia Orchestra Paige Gale, Senior
On Monday, January 15, members from the Immaculata Chorale and had the opportunity to sing with the Philadelphia Orchestra at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Tribute Concert. Mrs. Dorina Morrow, the chorale director at Immaculata, was asked to put together a choir consisting of approximately 150 people. She combined choirs from Immaculata University and The Philadelphia High School for Creative and Performing Arts to put on an amazing concert. For those involved, the concert was an all-day ordeal. While the rehearsals that morning were long and at times exhausting, the concert was awe-inspiring. It brought tears to so many people’s eyes, including many of the performers in the choir. The music was inspiring and moving to everyone. One of the most powerful pieces in the concert was Barber’s Adagio for Strings with a narrator speaking Martin Luther King Jr’s speech over it. The power and emotion behind her voice really emphasized the message Martin Luther King Jr. was trying to convey 50 years ago. It brought tears to many people’s eyes. Most of the choir’s favorite piece was Total Praises because of its intensity and beautiful harmonies. It appeared to be a crowd favorite as well, as the crowd gave a standing ovation after this piece. Overall, it was an experience that none of us will ever forget. Everyone who sang in the choir would like to thank Mrs. Morrow for giving us this opportunity.
