MIAMI RESEARCH FACILITY + LIBRARY Comprehensive Design Studio | Masters of Architecture | Fall ‘16
A Research Facility and Library located in the heart of Downtown Miami, with the purpose to create a public space for the community to enjoy and be a part of. The conceptual process was guided mostly by the activities that were going to be conducted in the space, for example the center plaza of the building could be used for performing, or cultural event. After determining what these activities might be, a set of tools for design were used to create a volume that met all the needs of the program and requirements. The main idea was to have these situations or activities occur around or in the building at the same time, on different levels but always maintaining a visual connection with one another.

It is the first automotive complex and park in the Dominican Republic that in addition to hosting races for all categories that are practiced in the country, offers the opportunity of learning the sport at an academic level with a properly designed indoor and outdoor karting track for this purpose, also has installations with interactive activities for all ages. This will provide a new face to the automobile industry, and open the door to new opportunities for promoting Dominican motorsports. Within the tracks complex there will be a track with alternate circuits that provide the possibility of different racing categories (such as off-road), bleachers distributed at different points, a main administrative building, control tower, and a memorial park.

In this design the main goal was to design a space on campus that represents the various cultures in the university’s student body. The premise of the design for this project is the conservation of the existing vegetation, and creating an area of social interaction. All the preexisting details are important, the small interventions create the functional aspects of the space. The space itself does not express the differences in cultures, but acts like the magnet that brings together the foreign students to interact with one another.
