is a city map itinerary and an orientation system to walk around and discover, in a self guided tour, the traces of exponents of Design from Milan.

The MDP (Milan's DesignPath) project is divided in two development areas. One part is the product of sale: map or app., of the touristic itinerary of Design and the second part is a stationary orientation system comprising: direction signage, urban furniture and sidewalk adhesives. (1.1)

MDP pocket map The MDP pocket map shows a touristic itinerary around the city with the aim of discover and visit places that characterize Milan, for it’s bond with famous Design exponents from Milan of our century.

Retro (information) - offers a brief explanation, photographs and historiacal notes about the tour stops.
Front (map) - on this face you’ll find the map of the city with: the MDP itinerary, location of points of interest, sign system legend and distance between stops.

MDP App. The MDP App. is a multimedia platform for Android or iOSX electronic equipment. It offers a navigable map (Zoom in / Zoom out and Geo-location) of Milan with the itinerary (path) of Design and a database with specific information. The database provides photographs, practical information and historical notes about the stops on the tour. The MDP App. shows a touristic itinerary around the city with the aim of discover and visit places that characterize Milan, for it’s bond with famous Design exponents from Milan of our century. Navigable map This part of the App. allows the user to have an overview of the complete itinerary around the city in a navigable map. It has as well a Geo-location system to visualize the user’s position.

Qr codes and database - The access to the complementary information about the stops of the itinerary are accessible only by the scan of the qr codes placed on the itinerary’s signage system around the city. The database offers three types of information, which are: 1.- Photographs 2.- Historical Notes 3.-Practical Information (overview of famouse structures, museums, design studios or design stores in short range of the visited area)

MDP Direction Signage The Direction Signage are indicators of the direction of the MDP itinerary. It contains information, such as distance, estimated time and the name of the area or place of destination, of the itinerary’s segment on which it is located. It’s function is to show the direction and guide the user on the Design path. Each indicator defines the start point of each segment of the itinerary. Direction Signage placement - The indicators are to be placed on the urban architecture of the city, such as walls or corners in the streets of Milan.

MDP Urban Furniture (city cairns) The Urban Furniture (city cairns) are optional stops which stablish reference points on the MDP itinerary and offer the user a rest. The proposed benches are reproductions of Italian Design Furniture. They offer the experience of sitting on an Industriale design furniture created by some of the Designers of which is known during the itinerary. Urban Furniture placement - The benches will be placed along the MDP itinerary on strategic areas of the city which offer an uncommon panorama to appreciate the city walk and the places that Milan’s Designers use to frequent.

MDP Sidewalk Adhesives The Sidewalk Adhesives are adhesive signs placed on the pavement of the city which establish a stop point on the MDP itinerary. During the tour of the MDP itinerary they establish the end point of each segment. It contains the number of the stop and a qr code. At each stop of the itinerary is planned the visit to a museum, design studio or design collectio that allows the users to know one of the exponents of Design from Milan. The adhesive signs are graphic reproductions of Design projects created by one of the Designers of which is known during the itinerary, Bruno Munari. Sidewalk Adhesives placement - The adhesive signs will be placed along the MDP itinerary and indicate the arrival point of each segment. This indicate an area of interest where to deepen knowledge about an exponent of Design from Milan.
