POPULATION INFLUX DUE TO LOWER TAXES
States Where Retirees Moved To and From Most Clarion also says The Sun Belt region is currently experiencing a population and corporate influx, primarily due to the lower or nonexistent corporate, individual, and property taxes compared to non-Sun Belt states further north. Over the last decade, almost 5 million people relocated to the Sun Belt due to outflows from non-Sun Belt states, particularly those in the Northeast and Midwest. At the same time, both regions have reported comparable international migration and natural population growth. Cities Where Retirees Are Moving The Census Bureau's recent ACS data shows which big cities are losing their older generation of residents and where some of them are headed. Two North Carolina towns ranked in the top 10 for retirees. #6 is Wilmington; in 2021, the net migration for people over 60 was 992, and #10, Raleigh, had a net migration of 830.
