Intrusion of A Void

A study of conversion of force and its 2D interpretation Making of Design Principle, RISD Arch, Fall 2014 Among a tensile structure, using the term of "pulling"(tension) to leave a space and keep the shape of a cubic volume which originally gave the structure a "pushing"(compression) to purify and re-unify the overall structure.

A series of 2D interpretation of the structure and the possible “script” of the lines.

The 5 Principles of Architecture

Case Study & Interpretation of Le Corbusier’s Swiss Pavilion Architectural Analysis, RISD Arch, Spring 2015

Corbu’s Infinite Room Wood, mirror

The tectonic logic of this model is a miniature of the construction method of Swiss Pavilion (steel skeleton, dry-wall, sound insulation, the relationship between GF and typical floors, etc.). Also, by mirroring this small dorm room (with a pair of paralleled mirrors to create infinite reflections) which represents a "modular living unit", it shows Corbu's idea of architecture as "living machine" and the linear nature with which the rooms are arranged.

Urban Funnel

Master planning & urban design in Providence, Rhode Island Urban Design Principles, RISD Arch, Fall 2015

The site is located by a medical district in Providence, RI. Most of the space is currently parking lots and abandoned houses.

The Funnel Group work Through teamwork, we’ve developed a masterplan concerning how to vitalize and integrate the site and its adjacent area. A radial/concentric system is proposed to create a smooth citrculation to “funnel people in to the hospital area from its surrounding residential neighborhood, bringing in more vitality and interactions to the newly planned district.

A Vital Stripe Individual work The project is mainly about, besides straightforward and fast commute routes, how an alternative, experiential and slower route can be embodied from one end to the other end of this area by applying a series of bicycle lanes which connects two perpendicular major roads and either surrounds or cut through the blocks with multiple types of programs.
