The City’s fauna
generally less well-studied than the flora
the best known groups are land snails, crustaceans, butterflies, fishes, reptiles, amphibians, birds and mammals
up to this time more than 120 species have been recorded as potentially important for protection:
33 species are threatened on international, European and national levels
87 species are listed in Annex I of the Birds Directive as well as Annexes II and IV of the Habitats Directive and some are locally threatened species
The City’s fauna
the most threatened: Fenton's Wood White (Leptidea morsei major - at the European level critically endangered (CR) butterfly species endangered at national level: Schreiber's Bat (Miniopterus schreibersi) two small crustaceans - the Zagreb Niphargid Shrimp (Niphargus elegans zagrebiensis) and Podsused Copepod (Acanthocyclops petkovski) Others are in either the vulnerable or data deficient categories
