Biodiversity
The biological diversity of the Dominican Republic makes this country an exclusive biogeographic space in Tropical America, with outstanding importance for both science, economic and social development. Dominican Republic
As part of the national biodiversity conservation policies, the Dominican Republic joins efforts globally, regionally and in particular, to promote the conservation and sustainable use of natural resources and in particular of biological diversity, having ratified the following international conventions:
• Biological Diversity Convention
• Climate Change Convention
• Convention on Combating Desertification and Drought
• Convention on Wetlands (RAMSAR)
• Kyoto Protocol
• Among other agreements, protocols and conventions
Fauna
The faunal wealth of Hispaniola is manifested in the great diversity of species of amphibians, reptiles, mammals and birds, with birds being the largest and most widely distributed group, with a record of some 306 species of birds, of which 10.4% are endemic, while Amphibians represent 96.9% endemism. Reptiles, 90.5% correspond to endemic species. Likewise, of the 44 species of mammals reported, 4 are endemic, for a percentage of 8.3% of the total.
Flora
The Dominican Republic, with an area of 48,198 km², has a high floristic diversity. This is due to the great diversity of environments and altitudinal differences, which range from Cabritos Island in the Southwest region, about 44 meters below sea level, to Pico Duarte, about 3,175 meters above sea level, the highest altitude in the Antilles. The types of vegetation vary from dry thorny forest to cloud forest, passing through xeromorphic forests on a substrate of ultramafic rocks, wetlands, humid broadleaf forests, pine forests, etc.
The main resource of Bávaro Punta Cana is its environment and its natural resources, its primary attraction for visitors. For this reason, institutions and companies in the area understand the importance of innovating when talking about sustainability and renewable energy. CPEM: The Consorcio Energético Punta Cana - Macao, S.A (CEPM), and its subsidiary Compañía de Electricidad de Bayahibe (CEB), is a company that generates, distributes and markets electrical energy in the east of the Dominican Republic.
Today, CPEM has several solar parks that generate dozens of megawatts that eliminate thousands of tons of CO2 emissions annually and make Bávaro Punta Cana a greener tourist destination.
The generation field has expanded through renewable sources with photovoltaic solar energy projects that, together with its electric mobility strategy, contribute to sustainability and care for the environment. Some of the hotels in the area that have solar parks in conjunction with CPEM are Nickelodeon, Royalton Bávaro, Grand Sirenis Punta Cana and Dreams Macao Beach Punta Cana. Since solar energy began to be used in the area, more than 130 GWh of clean energy has been produced, which means savings of 214,300 barrels of oil and 92,150 tons of CO2 avoided.
Since 2016, CEPM has had a biomass boiler with 4 tons of steam per hour for internal consumption at the Bávaro plant. The implementation of this type of energy generation contributes to the environment in different ways, since it converts waste into a resource; The correct treatment of biomass means an increase in recycling and a decrease in waste. By using biomass as fuel, waste, waste, wastewater and slurry that are a source of contamination of the subsoil and groundwater are eliminated.
In March 2024, Grupo Puntacana and the Eurelius company signed an agreement to implement a solar energy generation project, which will generate more than 50% of the energy consumed in the Punta Cana community, contributing to the development of a more sustainable destination.
The contracted project, in addition to the installation of photovoltaic panels, includes the installation of an energy storage system, which adds stability to the system against weather variations during the day. With this project, the emission of more than 25,000 tons of CO2 per year will be avoided and the measure will help reduce energy costs. More than 30 MWp of solar production and more than 50 MWh of battery storage will be installed. The agreement establishes that the photovoltaic plant will be located at the Punta Cana International Airport (PUJ), where it will have room for future expansion.
Eurelius GmbH, registered in Germany, is an international project development company with competence in the design, engineering, technical execution (EPC) and financial structuring and financing of renewable energy projects, in particular also for the C&I segment, including large-scale energy throughout the Caribbean.
Grupo Puntacana is a pioneer company in tourism and financial development that, more than 54 years ago, had the vision of developing a destination and a real estate community in a then remote, isolated and paradisiacal corner of the Dominican Republic.
Fundación Grupo Puntacana
La Fundación Grupo Puntacana is a non-profit organization through which Grupo Puntacana creates opportunities for the inhabitants of the area and promotes innovative solutions for the preservation of the region's ecosystem.
This foundation is focused on sustainability, dedicated to creating solutions for environmental and social challenges related to tourism development in the Caribbean. The foundation's initiatives include: The Sustainability Center, The Marine Innovation Center, Co-management of the Southeast Reef Marine Sanctuary, Coral Conservation and Restoration Program, Sea Turtle Conservation, Hispaniola Sparrowhawk Conservation, Beekeeping , Vermiculture, Aquaponics and a vegetable and fruit garden.
The community work of La Fundación Grupo Puntacana extends beyond the Punta Cana region and includes dozens of towns and municipalities in the province of La Altagracia. With a significant annual investment, the Foundation has built more than 20 social impact projects that include sports centers, community centers, playgrounds, nursing homes, schools and rural health clinics. All projects are chosen by consensus and are carried out in collaboration with community leaders and associations.
Dominican Republic
Indigenous Eyes Ecological Park and Reserve
La Reserva Ecológica Ojos Indígenas is a protected area of 1,500 acres, it was donated by Grupo Puntacana to La Fundación Grupo Puntacana for the creation of a natural reserve, for educational, scientific and recreational purposes.
The Ecological Reserve is categorized as a transitional subtropical forest because it contains mixed vegetation and fauna from humid and dry areas. Within the reserve there are more than 500 species of plants, 36% of which are endemic to the Dominican Republic.
Inside, you can see a wide variety of species of flora and fauna, as well as 12 water holes (lagoons) formed by the flowering of the underground Yauya river, due to the geological characteristics of the place. Most of these lagoons have been named from words used by the Taínos, the first settlers of the island and extinct during the conquest and colonization by Europeans.

mEETINGS & EVENTS
The Dominican Republic is one of the most attractive destinations in the world to combine business and leisure trips. With a sunny climate all year round and paradisiacal beaches, in the Dominican Republic you can turn your meetings and corporate events into unforgettable experiences.
For large events, the destination to choose is Punta Cana, where the largest number of all-inclusive beachfront hotels and the largest convention centers in the country are located.
Many world-class resorts and hotels in Punta Cana host meetings and incentive groups, offering great service, a wide range of recreational activities and dynamic spaces for meetings, events and incentive programs.
Technology in the destination
Punta Cana is growing in terms of technology and sustainability. Taking care of the natural resources in the area is very important for a city that lives mainly from tourism and its natural attractions.
The Evergo company marks a milestone by creating the first energy service center for charging electric cars in the region, powered by 100% renewable energy. The infrastructure has an ecological and modern approach to serve private, tourist and cargo transportation.
Evergo has the capacity to simultaneously charge 29 electric cars with 100% renewable energy. Its purpose is to help promote electric mobility, but above all for the eastern area to become the first zeroemission tourist destination in the country. One of the most relevant points of Evergo Connect is that it is developed by 100% Dominican talent, and has been conceived under a purpose that connects cutting-edge technology and sustainability.
Environmental benefits
The United Nations and the International Energy Agency have indicated that electric cars produce about half the carbon emissions of a conventional car, from manufacturing to disposal. In addition, there is a potential reduction of 25% less when the electricity it is powered by is low carbon.
In the case of Evergo Connect, its power source is completely clean: “The location of this electric station, in the concession area of our sister company CEPM, guarantees 100% renewable generation, through photovoltaic panels and a storage system of latest generation energy. In this way, we guarantee a clean and sustainable power source for vehicles” said Rolando González Búnster, president and CEO of InterEnergy Group, parent company of Evergo.

Typical Dominican Breakfast: Mangú con los 3 Golpes
(translates to Mangú with 3 Hits)
Mangú con Los Tres Golpes is a beloved breakfast dish in the Dominican Republic, capturing the essence of Caribbean comfort food and representing Dominican cuisine. Mangú is a smooth, creamy puree of mashed plantains, typically served with sautéed red onions. Los Tres Golpes includes Dominican fried salami, fried cheese, and fried eggs, creating a perfect breakfast combo.
Ingredients and Preparation
The mangú:
Boil plantains, once cooked, mash them with a fork or a potato masher. As you make the puree, add water little by little and the butter. The amount of water and butter to add will depend on the amount of plantains used, the idea is to make it soft and creamy.
Sauté red onions, cut into strips or thin rounds, over low heat and add salt, pepper and apple cider vinegar.
The 3 hits:
Fry Dominican Salami, this type of salami has a slightly smoky and is salted to perfection. It is a sausage that comes pre-cooked but is fried to give it a crunchy touch.
Fried cheese is made with a good quality frying cheese, an unripened, semi-hard cheese made from cow's milk. It has a very high melting temperature, which makes it possible to fry it without melting.
Eggs can be fried to everyone's taste, there is no standard.
