AMERICANS READY TO ANSWER THE CALL TO PRAY FOR OUR NATION ON THE 66TH ANNUAL NATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER, THURSDAY, MAY 4TH The National Day of Prayer is not just a vital part of America’s heritage, but is as relevant and critical today as it was at the first call by our Continental Congress in 1775. Established in public law by a joint resolution of Congress signed by President Truman in 1952, then amended to designate the day under the 100th Congress and President Reagan in 1988, it states that “The President shall issue each year a proclamation designating the first Thursday in May as a National Day of Prayer on which the people of the United States may turn to God in prayer and meditation at churches, in groups and as individuals.” As our nation struggles with foreign and domestic threats, economic insecurity, cultural tensions, and continual challenges to basic constitutional rights, citizens of the United States are preparing to heed the call by our elected leaders to exercise one of their most precious freedoms – the right to gather, turn to God, and pray. In response, millions will assemble at thousands of local events across the nation, where they will take time out of their daily schedules to intercede on behalf of their communities, their nation, and their leaders. The theme for the 2017 National Day of Prayer observation is For Your Great Name's Sake. Based upon Daniel 9:19, it emphasizes our need as a nation, to cry out to God, who is sovereign See DAY OF PRAYER, on page 4

The right to vote is the preserver of all other rights. Without it, no other rights can be guaranteed to all Americans, whatever their race, religion, creed or color. Since the brutal days of slavery, In1857, six years earlier, the Supreme Court has been our salvation and our damnation. After 247 years of bondage in America, the 16th president, Abraham Lincoln, signed the Emancipation Proclamation, and we were free. However, the supreme Court, in the Dred Scott decision said, "No black man had any rights that any white mans was bound to respect." Unfortunately, that decision has come back to haunt us more than once. In 1895, 38 years later, in the Homer Vs Ferguson decision, the Supreme Court Court said, "Separate but Equal," is the law of the land. The emphasis was always on the separate but never the equal. So we ate in separate restaurants, used separate restrooms, drank from separate water fountains, slept in separate hotels and motels, went to separate schools, lived in separate neighborhoods. It was called segregation. In 1954, 59 years later, in the Brown vs Board of Education decision, under Chief Justice Earl warren, the Supreme Court decided that "Separate Education Facilities were inherently Unequaled., and ordered the desegregation of schools in the South

with all deliberate speed." This decision, however, did not affect our right to vote. The 15th Amendment to the United States Constitution is clear: The right to vote shall not be denied or abridged on the account of race, and it vests in congress the power to enforce that right by appropriate legislation." That is exactly what the 1965 Voting Rights Act did, and Section 5 was at the heart and soul of the new law which gave millions of blacks a new sense of hope for ourselves and our children. In 2013, 48 years later; John Roberts' Supreme Court, in a 5-4 decision said,"History can't repeat itself. Well following the Civil War; when troops were dispatched to the South to ensure that the right by the newly emancipated slaves was protected, blacks went to the polls in record numbers and to local, state, and federal offices. Then in 1877, with the Tilman Hayes compromise, Ruther B. Hayes was awarded the presidency, and the federal troops were withdrawn from the South, leaving the newly freed slaves to the mercy of their former masters---the Ku Klux Klan, and the white citizen councils were born. And newly elected blacks were murdered, some on the steps of the Capital.. Following "Bloody Sunday,"in Selma, Alabama, on March 7, 1965, on August

6th, pushed by civil and human rights organizations, President Lyndon Johnson, signed the Voting Rights Act, and we thought we were free again. But with the appointments of Supreme Justices by Republican presidents, the court once again became our damnation. In a 5-4 decision, it decided that blacks, Hispanics, and other minorities must be left to the mercy of those who formerly kept them from voting. It was like the defendant saying to the judge, "I have not hit my wife since you gave me the retraining order." In a free society, it is the responsibility of the majority to protect the rights of the minority. And the majority must do nothing to keep the minority from becoming the majority. However, 2010-2012 Republican-controlled legislatures created measures designed to make it harder for minorities and students to vote. Voter ID laws. early voting cutbacks, communitybased voter registration, etc. Once again the Supreme Court has become our damnation. Publisher's Return Home To Roots finds A Welcomed Expansion of The Interfaith Gazette

The I.M.A. Representatives of Dothan, Alabama. (Left) President Pastor Harold McKissic, Sr.

Dr. Rayford Malone, Pastor of Greater Beulah Baptist Church, Dothan, Alabama Special Submission to the Gazette On a recent visit to Alabama, Publisher, Bishop Marjorie Holt, had an opportunity to share the vision of The Interfaith Gazette Newspaper with Pastors and businesses that sent a wave of victory for the vision. Sharing the vision of The Interfaith Gazette Newspaper, and the gift of "bringing voices to print", came as a triumphant entrance as several listened at the possibility of expanding their ministries and churches throughout the Wiregrass area and communities in Southeast Alabama through the vehicle of newspaper. Dothan, Alabama is located in Southeast Alabama and borders Florida and Georgia. Therefore it offers unlimited fellowship by, with, and among churches from all denominations and reformations and geographical locations. And this such fellowship was found to exist succinctly in the regularly Tuesday morning meetings that take place with Pastors whose responsibility it is to share the Sunday School lesson for the purpose of spreading theological perspective on the subject with their peers, homiletics, and how to present materials for a sermon. An enthusiastic group met on this Tuesday to do just that. However, one of the differences on this day was that they had opened the door for a guest from the outside, who was welcomed to share her vision with the group. And that guest was Publisher of the Interfaith Gazette Newspaper, whose task it was to share the vision of IFG. As the Pastors eagerly listened to the vision of IFG, their welcoming introduction of smiles and nods, gave way to the possibility of furthering their visions. As I shared my "roots" on being deeply rooted in the wiregrass area during my developmental, formative years, it quickly gave way for the pastors to share their vision for the community by coming together for the case of unity among the brothers and sisters. Pastor Harold McKissic Sr. President of the Interdenominational Ministerial Alliance, I. M. A., shared with the Publisher the value that this group has in meeting weekly. He stated that their meetings are designed to further each of their ministries with growth through that of sharing, which is done in a teaching/lesson by Rev. Eddie Thomas, who

Dr. M. Earl Pulliam, Pastor and Lady Betty Pulliam, Allen Temple C.O.G.I.C. Dothan, Alabama has the responsibility for the homiletics. He also stated that the information shared is often times theme based, yet contextual in nature. Rev. Robert L. Jones, host Pastor and Pastor of the North Highland Baptist Church, welcomed me to speak to the group. The See HOME, on page 10

Australian Prayer Leaders Call World to Pray and Fast for America as US Vice President Visits Australia UNANDERRA, Australia, -- For the fifth year in a row, Australia is calling the nations of the world to join with them to pray and fast for five days for America, from 30 April - 4 May 2017. April 30 is America's National Day of Repentance. May 4 is America's National Day of Prayer. For your Great Name's Sake - Hear Us, Forgive Us and Heal Us" is the theme for 4 May, 2017. Wesley Leake, a member of the National Day of Prayer team said, "God has done amazing things in America since we began to pray and fast, but God can do greater things yet! We in Australia believe it is our turn to stand in the gap for the nation of America and pray for revival and transformation for the USA through prayer and fasting according to 2 Chronicles 7:14. The new administration cannot bring revival to America, only God can do that. We in Australia are grateful for the protection that America gave Australia and the nations of the free world during World War II. The Battle of the Coral Sea, fought by USA in 1942, was the turning point in the Second World War for Australia. Thank God for America!" Ps Melissa Haigh, also part of the National Day of Prayer team said, "Abraham Lincoln, on 30 April 1863 called for a Day of 'Humiliation, Prayer and Fasting' at a time of great national crisis by Governmental decree which said, 'We have grown in numbers, wealth and power, as no other nation has ever grown. But we have forgotten God...We have vainly imagined, in the deceitfulness of our hearts, that all these blessings were produced by some superior wisdom and virtue of our own. Intoxicated with unbroken success, we have become too self-sufficient to feel the necessity of redeeming and preserving grace, too proud to pray to the God that made us! It behooves us then, to humble ourselves

before the offended Power, to confess our national sins, and to pray for clemency and forgiveness,'" Haigh continued, "Unfortunately, today America is again in crisis because it has forgotten God. America is in great danger from within and without. The situation in Australia is not much different. We in our

About the National Day of Prayer

The National Day of Prayer tradition predates the founding of the United States of America, evidenced by the Continental Congress’ proclamation in 1775 setting aside a day of prayer. In 1952, Congress established an annual day of prayer and, in 1988, that law was amended, designating the National Day of Prayer as the first Thursday in May.

Dr. Yvonne Pointer: The PAIN WAS FOR PURPOSE! By Interfaith Gazette Staff Not many people have the testimony as one Dr. Yvonne Pointer of Cleveland, Oh. who found her way to New Life C. O. G. I. C. on Sunday morning with a forward word to the body of Christ as to the power of God who turned her tragedy into triumph. You see in 1984, Dr. Pointer lost her 14 year old daughter, Gloria, through the hands of a rapist and murderer. Her life from that point on would be one of searching for answers to this tragedy that turned her world upside down. She cried out daily to the Lord to "come and get me". She was not ready to commit suicide but she just wanted out. She stated that in the midst of her pain and in the midst of her crying out to God, he told her that I will be your reason! However, after hearing the voice of God, It was nothing short of making her ministry one of an assuredness that would lead her to the doors of prisons, in hopes that she would or could somehow come in contact with the murderer or someone who knew the one who had committed such heinous acts on her daughter. She became a walking Evangelist who walked into those doors with a destined purpose that she wore daily: to find out who killed my child! But it was not without the vicissitudes that would take place in her life that would lead her to the challenge of finding "her place" in the midst of the turmoil that plagued her daily. Her world had been turned upside down. Questions minute by minute led her to hearing and obeying God to the point that she finally accepted the call to minister to the prisoners behind bars, which opened the doors for her to minister to the world. Dr. Pointer's message has resounded loudly to the point of becoming a national

for the National Missing and Exploited Children's Ceremony. She has appeared on Oprah Winfrey Show, Queen Latifah, Fox, in Ebony, Essence, and many more. This woman of God's pain transcended into purpose. Her trials and struggles positioned her to become a VOICE TO and

FOR THE NATION. She has ministries that lead her as far away as Ghana, Africa. And to be the blessing to the Toledo community that she was, her national radio internet voice caught the attention of See PURPOSE, on page 9

Dr. Yvonne Pointer voice who is heard all over the country. Her message is sure, her mission is known. She is a voice for parents who have experienced the loss of children at the hands of murderers. As she travels worldwide, her vision lacks nothing. She is broad in her scope and is unlimited in her territory. Her determination never wavered and with the help of God, she was able to after 29 years finally come FACE TO FACE WITH THE ONE WHO MURDERED HER CHILD. Her testimony is that she was able to minister to him even on death row. She is the Author of several books, including "Behind the Death of a Child, Two Dollars in My Pocket, and Word From The Mother". She is an Activist and Philanthropist who has journeyed the globe. Recently she was the parent speaker at the U. S. Dept. of Justice

How Do Millennial Christians Make Decisions? GOOSE CREEK, S.C. -- Teleios Research conducted a survey by placing advertisements on InstaPray, a Christian Instagram account In total, 858 individuals participated, with the majority being: evangelicals (77%); college students (51%), females (67%), and 80% US residents. The average age was 23 ± 10 years. HOW CHRISTIANS MAKE DECISIONS The respondents indicated they most often make spiritual and secular based decisions by taking a step of faith based on the Bible, although less so with secular decisions (63 and 51%, respectively) or waiting for guidance from the Holy Spirit (58 and 45%, respectively). Once a decision has been determined, 87% of participants pray for reassurance from God, while 59% take action based on faith. However, 30% of participants question if their decision is correct. Most believed their decision-making was either pleasing to God, Spirit or made in faith (about 55% for each selection); while about 20% for each indicated their choices might be emotional or self-seeking. Participants thought God helped them make decisions by having a plan for their life (63%); while almost as many believed He led them based on the Bible (53%). EFFECT ON PERSONAL WELLBEING Personal wellbeing did not differ among responses for spiritual decisions, but those who used wisdom from prior biblicallybased experience to make secular decisions reported higher wellbeing. After a decision had been made those who generally took action based on their faith and knowledge of God's Word noted higher wellbeing. Further, those who believed that God uses prayer to guide their decisions indicated higher wellbeing. EFFECT OF ADHERENCE TO THE BIBLE For those who were adherent to the Christian lifestyle (prayer, praise, fellowship, outreach and Bible study) most relied on biblically-based wisdom and experience in determining decisions. After they made a See DECISION, on page 10

Gay Opponents Vow to Shut Down Christian Conference, 'Shutter Weekend' Meetings that Offer Hope for Those Wanting Freedom Restored Hope Network provides support for those struggling with same-sex attraction, transgenderism PORTLAND, Ore -- After the recent airing of the ABC 20/20 story slamming gay conversion therapy, viewers were left with the conclusion that counseling for change is dangerous. But what is true? The truth is that many strugglers are looking for a way out. They suffer from depression, illegal drug use, higher STDs, HIV/AIDS and attempt suicide at higher rates. Many people want hope. They need freedom. And where else can they go if all avenues for healing are shut down? As Auschwitz survivor, Eli Wiesel wrote, "Just as man cannot live without dreams, he cannot live without

hope. If dreams reflect the past, hope summons the future." The Restored Hope Network is the largest coalition of Christian ministries, therapists, and pastors who offer hope through Jesus Christ to those hurting from sexual and relational brokenness, especially those impacted by homosexuality. Executive Director, Anne Paulk, explains that no one is trying to force anyone to change. "We simply want to offer the hope of the cross; the death of an old destructive life for one of wholeness and freedom." See CONFERENCE, on page 9

Don't Get Lost in the Sauce By Pastor Talmadge Thomas As the season continues to change and the temperature begins to climb upward, there are a few things to look forward to. Family reunions, cookouts, good music and good food especially barbecue! When you listen to a real"que" master they all have special ways to cook, marinate and all of them have a special sauce. One of the cardinal sins when it comes to doing ribs is that you never want the sauce to drown the meat. In other words, don't let the meat get lost in the sauce! Matter of fact, good meat when its cooked right they tell me doesn't even need any sauce. Well, if you've read any of my other writings you know there is a segway to why I'm really writing. Here it is! In life there are times when you have to make sure that you don't lose yourself, get lost

Conference from page 8 In June, hundreds of people will gather in San Diego for the annual Restored Hope Conference. Already gay and lesbian groups in the area are calling people who believe in change through Jesus Christ, "scam artists" and "bullies hiding their homophobia behind the Bible." Paulk says nothing is further from the truth. "Our objective is to help the most vulnerable by providing tools and workshops to those

in all that's going on whether it's politically, financially, socially or psychologically. Friend, i write these words to urge you, plead with you and push you to the point where you know without a shadow of doubt that now is not the time to get lost in the sauces, flavors, winds of anything. Now is the time to make sure your focus is fixed, your mind is determined and your heart is in it to win it! Sure, there are a number of things that could wipe out the best of them. Our community is facing test and challenges like never before and its easy to get overwhelmed and stick your proverbial head in the sand, but that's not the answer for a growing city that's making progress to be proud of. How can you not get lost in the sauce? Glad you asked, here it goes. Its what you put in the sauce that gives it the flavor! Remember, what you feed the most grows the fastest! working with same-sex attracted people or those who are struggling themselves." The conference will be held June 16 and 17 and include speakers like Joe Dallas, Janet Mefferd, Ron Citlau, and Linda Seiler. "We are not a public-policy group, politically affiliated, or tied to any single denomination," says Paulk. "What we are is a partnership of people who believe that God can set us free from any form of sin and redeem us so we can experience full life in Jesus Christ."

Low coolant level can lead to a breakdown and expensive repairs! Try some spiritual coolant in your life when your engine wants to blow up. When there is a lot of injustice, bullies and gossip in the world we get the urge to blow up. When life gets hot, think coolant and chill out. Don't let the sauce of life swallow you up!

Take some time, clear your head and heart, apply prayer and ask God to take over the situation. Fix the situation without complaining, ranting or raving. Remind yourself that you were made for this and you're not going to get lost in the sauce, not today and certainly not tomorrow. Command, seize and win the day!

Home from page 3 meeting takes place at North Highland. And as the meeting continued, Pastors from different churches convened. One of such was Pastor James Dorsey, Pastor of the Countyline Missionary Baptist Church, Slocomb, Ala. He stated that he is proud to be a member of the group as he has been connected for 15 years. He is grateful because the members reached out to him as a young preacher, assisting him in his educational goals. He stated that the group has grown over the years and the African American body is well represented through the association. Another individual who was also present was Rev. Paul Cowley. He stated that he appreciates the connection because it serves as great fellowship shared by all and that is irreplaceable for him, that it's relevant and meaningful. President McKissic also paid homage to one of the longest attending

Decisions from page 7 decision they most often sought reassurance from a mentor, or believed their decision was biblically based. They typically believed God uses the Bible to lead them. Dr. William Stewart, cofounder of Teleios Research, commented that "We now have direct evidence that young evangelicals not only use the Bible for making decisions and assurance, but importantly, that individuals who are adherent to a Christian lifestyle and those with better wellbeing most often based their decisions on the Bible. Further, those using the Bible for decisions have better wellbeing!"

members of the group, Pastor Paul Grider. He further stated that the group is open to all regardless of denomination or gender. He welcomes any Pastor to join them as they meet weekly. And as the meetings and gatherings continued during my return to my roots, another opportunity to connect and share the vision took place at one of the churches that was influential in shaping my world view and perspective on life; and that was Allen Temple COGIC. Being back on the grounds of such a historical place was just what was needed in corroborating with the Pastor, Dr. M. Earl Pulliam, as to what God had done and how the vision of Interfaith Gazette was encouraging and promising. In fact, he sowed a seed right on the spot after hearing about it. What a blessing to return to these grounds. More data from this study can be found here teleiosresearch.com/index.php/gospelsurvey/decision-survey. Teleios, a non-profit foundation, seeks to demonstrate the truth of Scripture and the Christian faith through the scientific method by providing evidence for the positive results of a biblically-based lifestyle. Prior studies conducted by Teleios have shown that the practice of the Christian faith (praise, prayer, fellowship, service and Bible study) and security of salvation increases well-being while reducing guilt. A fuller description of findings can be found on the website teleiosresearch.com.

As the day progressed, another church in the Wiregrass area who welcomed the opportunity to share the vision was the historic Greater Beulah Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Dr. Rayford Malone. Having been the Shepherd for four years at Greater Beulah, Pastor Malone states that his journey has been a worthwhile and amazing opportunity to be at the helm of this house of God. He is not a neophyte in building the people of God. Greater Beulah is the third pastorate for him. He hails the area from the state of Texas, where he began a life of servanthood rebuilding and shaping the lives of people that would change the world. Pastor Malone is realistic about the challenges that he faces, yet optimistic that Greater Beulah is built for this time to rise and shine, giving God the praise and glory as it continues to

progress onward, even in the midst of some past tumultuous times. It is no doubt in my mind that the three churches that I had an opportunity to visit, Greater Beulah Baptist Church, North Highland Baptist Church, and Allen Temple Church of God In Christ, are alive and well and positioned to impact lives and change a generation. Our prayers are with Pastor Dr. Rayford Malone, Pastor Robert Jones, and Dr. M. Earl Pulliam, as they continue to serve the people of God in meekness with an intentional desire to please God. My time with all of you was worth it, well spent, and thanks for the open arms and warm welcome: To God be the Glory! I look forward to the future as we build upon new relationships. Again, thanks to each of you! Blessings.

Leader from page 6 The event is being staged on Pentecost Sunday, marking the day when the Holy Spirit fell upon the early church, empowering it to respond to Jesus' Great Commission to "go into all the world and preach the gospel." The Facebook Live event-to be broadcast at 7 pm EST on June 4-will include brief video messages from each of the seven members of the alliance: Bibles For The World, GMI, Missio Nexus, Partners International, Reach Beyond, Operation Mobilization and World Mission. As part of the International Day for the Unreached, churches are being encouraged to focus their sermons and programs for the day on the challenge and opportunity before them to get more involved in efforts to take the gospel to those who have not heard it yet.
