By Interfaith Gazette Staff As we celebrate Black History Month, we would like to celebrate two significant people in the history of the Toledo Community who did make history. By Floyd Rose When I came to Valdosta in 1995, I planned to go to Heaven from here. I have lived through the Willie James Williams case, the black contractors, and the Rainwater Center discrimination. Now, it doesn't matter what happens to me. I have lived a good life, and I will be 88 years old on November 1st, 2017, and I am prepared to die. I just finished reading the story of the "Good Samaritan." The Priest and the Levite passed by the man who had fallen among thieves, who stripped him, beat him, and left him to die. Perhaps, they were asking themselves, "What will happen to us if we stop by and help him? But the"Good Samaritan" stopped, looked on the man with compassion, then administered first aid, put him on his own beast, and took him to the nearest motel. Maybe he was asking himself, "what will happen to the wounded man if I don't stop and help him.?
That is the question that I have had to ask myself as I have watched, day after day, people come into my office needing help. While others have asked, what will happen to me, to my job, to my church, to my reputation, if I get involved in this issue? That can never be my question. As a devoted follower of Jesus Christ, I must always ask, "what will happen to them if I don't stop and get involved," whether it is the Black Contractors, or the mistreatment of blacks at the Rainwater Conference Center. There are preachers and there are prophets. Preachers speak to God for the people. Prophets, on the other hand, speak to people for God. Preachers make people feel good on Sunday about feeling bad on Saturday, but they are no better off on Monday. Prophets, like Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.,who speak to the people for God, ask what will happen to them if I don't stop and get involved? That is the question that Dr. King asked in Montgomery, Birmingham, Selma, and Memphis. It is the same question that black ministers must ask now. No preacher/prophet
who is committed to the principles of Jesus Christ, can ask what will happen to me if I help my people. Instead, he must ask. "What will happen to my people if I don't help them.?" We must not forget that it wasn't the man who looked like the fallen man, who helped him. It was a nobody from nowhere, a crossbreed, a Samaritan, an outcast, who was compassionate and who helped the wounded man, administered first aid, took him to the nearest motel, paid the clerk for the night's lodging, and the next morning told the clerk that he would be back and take care of any other expenses that the man may have incurred. It is not always easy to follow the examples of Jesus, but it is always right. Floyd Rose Senior Servant Serenity Church

Twenty five Leaders set aside 3 hours to hear non-stop biblical truths regarding the original mission of the church and how present day alignments have altered the face of the church. Bishop Woods focused on the level of commitment from those who have misled, deceived, manipulated and garnered
From left to right: Sister Faye Johnson, Prophet Jacob Lewis, Minister Sheila Cook, and Dr. Nadine Larde the courage to sow seeds of discord in the Body of Christ for their own personal gain. He believes that it is time for the saints to go back to basics and do what God always intended for them to do that he called, and that is to sound the alarm and lead his sheep in integrity with vision. The scriptures that were so profound that backs up the word of God and his Shepherds and Prophets, were found in Ezekiel, where God admonishes them to understand the consequences of
doing their own thing and refusing to follow the instructions of God. This 3 hour Leadership conducted by Bishop Woods, continued to provide sound doctrine, with confidence in the word of God that real Leaders and servants are those who choose to be the obedient ones. Much approval for this Luncheon and Leadership session was highlighted, as the Leaders placed the finishing touch on what proved to be just what was needed on the menu for the day, coupled with a fantastic
meal prepared by the hospitality committee at Bethesda. Bishop Woods pledged to return with his series of Leadership module that he is sharing with Leaders, Bishops, Pastors, and. Clergy across the country. His natural proclivity to speak with Leaders was a welcomed addition to the day’s agenda for those in attendance. Bishop MARJORIE Holt, Ph. D. was host to the luncheon.

SURPRISE: It’s Your Birthday! Pastor Patricia Smith By Marjory Goodloe On Jan.11th, Pastor Smith arrived at Cousino’s Steakhouse, expecting a simple dinner for two with her mentee. However, little did she know that she would be met by a room full of friends and family in honor of her birthday. Getting Pastor Smith to the restaurant proved to be harder than expected. Pastor Smith’s mentee had been offering to take her to dinner for weeks. Believing she was just having dinner with her mentee, Pastor Smith rescheduled her dinner plans twice. Determined to be a part of the celebrations, in spite of the date changes, close friends and family members made their appearance. Pastor Smith was completely surprised when she realized that she had been “gotten”. Her husband, children, church members, and closest clergy friends kept the party a complete secret from her. The evening was filled with food, gifts, hugs and laugher. When asked how did she think the event turned out, Pastor Smith’s mentee responded “It was so good to hear my Pastor laugh.”

A Name With No Shame®
Help me understand the shame that would have came by me wearing my seed name? I knew my true seed name that I wasn’t allowed to claim, why was there shame in me wearing my seed name? Unity was explained as the reason for the false name, saying my name is your name and you will wear it as if it were your true name with no complain; that’s what was proclaimed. Was there some unknow blame that manifested the shame for the seed name, was I to blame for the shame of my seed name? or was there so much pain in seeing the seed owner and me as the same? What a shame! “I’ll change one or the other, how about the name, that will block the plan for gain, not letting the true seed name be claimed.” Help me understand the shame in me wearing my true seed name? Who do I blame? No one because I was still loved the same by Someone with the One and Only True Name that can be claimed with no shame….El Roi. Jacque Jelks

MLK from page 1 dream and vision in fighting hunger in this community, make a mark and impression in the hearts and minds of others who have no clue of what it is like to be hungry, so that they would understand the plight of those who are, daily. Mr. Savage attributes the success of the Kitchen with that of having so many partners in and around Northwest Ohio, who seem to really “get it!. His commitment to the mission of the Kitchen has touted the improvements in the operation ranging from financial stability to individuals who walk in from the streets with turkeys that they just want to
donate. The Kitchen does have partners who have been committed for a number of years. They seem to really show support during the holidays. He does give shout outs to the following partners who make it possible for the recipients of the hearty meals to eat daily, wholesome, healthy. They are: Unions, Fiat Chrysler, Zion Mennonite Church & Mr. John Rich, Cornerstone Church, Trinity Faith Tabernacle, The Blue Gill Fishing Club, and Pastor Talmadge Thomas and the Mt. Zion, City of Zion Church. He speaks highly of the support that these entities have provided the Kitchen down through the years, especially for the Thanksgiving and Christmas Holidays, where baskets, and at least 150 toys, and bicycles have been favorites down through the years. Director Savage says that their
commitment to stay in touch with the times of the participants at the Kitchen, has allowed them to make some leaps of faith. MLK Kitchen has several plans for the future. They have on the to do list A Community Center to be built in the next 2 years so that they are able to provide more extensive programs that will enhance the quality of life for attendees. He wants to provide more educational opportunities, life skills programs, health and wellness and more, that are needed to meet the needs of the participants. The Kitchen received the Robert Brundidge Humanitarian Award in 2013 and is Better Business Bureau accredited. They have served more than 30,000 meals to date. They also provide Baskets to families during the 2nd half of the month from their Food
Pantry. Presently, the Outreach services that the Kitchen provides include a Prevention Health By Choice Program, designed to assist persons with hypertension and diabetes, as well as meals to the Friendly Center for residents in the North End. The MLK Kitchen for The Poor does accept donations through its official website, www.kitchenforthepoor.org as well as receives support through Community Shares. Director Savage, whose roots sprang from the rich state of ALABAMA,makes no apology for saying that it is something in the Alabamians who seem to keep on giving and giving no matter what. Shout out to the ALABAMA natives. Let's keep the dream and the vision of his father, Rev. H. V. Savage, Sr. alive!

The union of churches, who set aside this time to celebrate the life of Dr. King, brought African American and Caucasian brothers and sisters together to breakdown the barriers as well as to show the willingness to bridge gaps between cultures in a common cause. The service was upbeat and filled with anticipation that at the end of the day the mission would be accomplished. Rev. Lee
Williams, Host, and Pastor of the Searchlite Community Baptist Church, ensured that the gathering of people of all cultures was what he believes that Dr. MARTIN LUTHER King, Jr. was all about and would have been proud to overlook the audience with a nod of approval. It is no doubt in Pastor WILLIAMS mind, that this day of celebration had distinct meaning to the significance of Dr. King's life.

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.: AWAKEN FROM MY DREAM! Hello there America, I am Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Remember me? I lived with you in times of transitional peace through non-violent means. However, it appears that the times that you are living in now, have proven to be very different and more difficult than when I was with you. So, I have awakened to discover that some of you have slipped back and regressed into a dismal state that leaves me in a quandary of disbelief. When I left you, I left with the hopes that progress was inevitable, and that the report that I would receive here would be one of encouragement, excitement and immeasurable ecstasy. However, I am reviewing the latest fashions, trends, APB’s, E-blasts, OMG Insider, Twitter, FB, and the rest of your social media efforts, and discovering that my dream is still not a reality and may have even leaped into what looks more like a nightmare than a reality; IJS. So I am choosing to reflect back upon the “ I Have A Dream” speech that I wrote to you and delivered on August 28, 1963, which appears to keep a place in your programs that you have each January in my honor, yet is lost when you leave them. Let me convey to you what some of my concerns are. I will not remind you of all that I told you because it appears that you have either failed to remember or selectively chose to forget the importance of it. So, let me first recap for your memory and point to some of the areas that I mentioned in my speech. I first spoke about the Emancipation Proclamation when it had been signed five score years ago and what it was intended to do about the flames of withering injustices, that was supposed to last for a lifetime for all of us, not just Negro slaves. But I have awakened to find out that some of its momentous decree was never initiated, some still swallow in injustices, and some still have a problem with it after all of these years. The doors of opportunity have been opened to all of God’s children as I mentioned, but the devastation appears gloomy because of what some have and have not done, as they were given a door to walk through: IJS. And should I remind my people that in the process of gaining our rightful place, that we must not be guilty of wrongful deeds? I am also reminded that Rodney King was with you for a while and has now left you. I speak of him because he was on to something when he asked: CAN WE JUST ALL GET ALONG? I know that there has been many, many more who have died at the hands of wretched injustices, that seemingly were at the hands of those who were sworn to protect us. I’m speaking of the brothers and sisters who wear the blue uniforms but carry a black heart. And from what I’m sensing up here, it appears that you, America, have slipped into an insurmountable, tumultuous coma that has left you without feelings of self- worth, which gives the appearance of the absence of caring for each other, which by the way, was always at the foundation of every trial, movement, campaign, and just plain ole human suffering. And by the way my fellow Politicians, just a word to you as well: “What you do privately yields public scrutiny now with all of the technology that I’m told that you have”! IJS You are probably asking how I’m getting all of this information. You must understand that I am speaking from an inward force that has always guided my being, from the point of my birth to the end of my untimely death. So, my internal cues America are still with me about you and your being. Even though I have been awakened to the perils of your present state, I am still shaken by the news that infiltrates your homes daily, that seemingly have no end to the violence, injustices, demoralizing, bewilderment, trickery, scams, spams, schemes, and
your young people to do their own thing without parental consent and I have to ask: What happened America?
divisiveness surrounding our once secured institutions of family, church, schools and communities. America, what has happened to the fibers of the blood, sweat, and tears that dared not shake our beliefs, commitments, and vows, that we not only thought about but lived out? Remember, I was once with you. I witnessed what we believed. Even when we
were wrong, we were wrong with a sense that we agreed to disagree. I understand now that you do more violating each other than protecting each other. You do less talking and more acting out. Family has become separate instead of being united. I understand that there are more Foster homes than parents at home. I had an opportunity to look at the latest hip hop tracks, DVD’s, You Tube, Skype, Snap Chat and more that allows
I noticed parents that since you started believing that you wanted more for your children than you had, that your youth have seemingly lost respect for you and have even resorted to violent tendencies in their music; that their music even causes rivalry that has erupted into competition that has led to death. I know that I’m going way back now but I heard about the deaths of Tupac and Biggie Small and the Rapper’s chaos; that music no longer serves as mere pleasure anymore. You must know that I hear everything up here where I am. And then I was torn by the fact that the AMA reported more unnecessary and increased medical mistakes than ever in the history of medicine; that more homes are being foreclosed than could ever be imagined in the history of America; that businesses are closing in record numbers; that our churches are no longer safe houses anymore; that Chicago is now the murder capital of the states; that schools, theaters, and grocery stores have now become slaughter houses; that parents have turned on their children and they are being victimized without remorse; that guns have replaced love; that lies have replaced the truth; that our leaders have lost their integrity to lead and have become bewitched. America, there is so much more that I have received reports about since I left you. But I’m about to wake up. But before I awake from what I thought was a DREAM, let me also tell you that I did get the report that my people progressed to experience the shock of their lifetime by voting in a Negro, Black, African American, or some called him Bi-racial and others said that he was not even an American, but either way, I’m so proud of that accomplishment, even though I was not there to witness such with you. You should know that this made me very happy and what I will say is that: America, you have taken a part of My Dream and made it a reality; so I thank you for that. However, as I get even closer to being awakened, I’m told that America is experiencing some rather unusual and strange developments from the Leaders of the free world, and some of the strange developments appear to be closely related to the one thing that I fought so hard against and that was RACISM. So, I must ask, Why are you still judging by the color of one’s skin? What has caused you to back slide into a state to regress instead of progress? Did my dream not mean anything to you to understand that the content of one’s character was far more relevant and important than the color of one’s skin? AMERICA, YOU SHOULD WAKE UP! I’m not with you, but I still believe and have faith that there is a generation to come who will live out the true meaning of MY DREAM and will walk out this one thing: “that we can all live together as brothers and sisters or we will perish together as fools”! I believe America that my living was not in vain and my dying was on purpose! That as I awaken from what I thought was a DREAM, I realize that this is A NIGHTMARE. America, I still believe, that the faith that I have will allow me, even up here, to sing with a new meaning: “ My country tis of thee, sweet land of liberty of thee I sing, Land where my fathers died, Land of the pilgrim’s pride, from every mountain side: LET FREEDOM RING! ©By Dr. Marjorie L.
