2021 Paradise Island Program

Page 1

Thank You for Making a Difference! What an honor to have you with us tonight! While we regret that the COVID-19 pandemic prevented us from hosting last year’s event, we are excited to welcome you to Paradise Island Fiesta del Caribe 2.0 reboot. This is our first -- and hopefully, our only -- virtual event and we are grateful for this opportunity for IWA to explore the use of digital and social media to reach a wide audience. We have a fun evening planned for you tonight and appreciate your support. Proceeds from Paradise Island benefit every student on campus and provide immediate resources directed to several key areas, including tuition assistance (expanding access to an IWA education for a diverse population), STEM (advancing science and technology, engineering, and math), fine arts, professional development for faculty, and campus security and facility enhancements.

Fund-A-Need

CHROMEBOOKS 3100 The COVID-19 pandemic has redesigned our classrooms. Amid this pandemic, our faculty is simultaneously providing both in-person and virtual classroom instruction. As a result, school work is assigned and submitted via Google Classroom so all students in grades 2-12 are required to have computers with them for each class. Students either bring their own device or check out a loaner from the school. This allows them to login into Google Classroom to read materials, complete and submit their assignments and take tests.

Although our elementary, middle, and high school levels each have computer labs and some classroom computers (which have to be cleaned thoroughly after each use), the labs do not provide adequate technology support for this new online platform. The labs cannot be used as they normally would be since students cannot share equipment and cannot sit right next to each other which means only a small number of students can be in the lab at one time. In addition, the devices prove to be a great testing tool for teachers since the chromebooks can be locked during a quiz or test, restricting access to browsers, websites, and apps.

The increased technology will enable us to provide loaners for students who may not have their own device or to provide them with a back-up device in the event that one stops working.

Our Goal
