CELEBRATING 150 YEARS
Elementary Level
Archaeological Dig
Our MES students dug up amazing finds during their Archaeological Dig in the garden. Students were divided into groups of archaeologists and helpers. Together they carefully shoveled and sifted through the soil. Our Angels found everything from bones to artifacts buried in the dig zone.
Angels Learn Gelli Printing Our Elementary Level Angels learned how to Gelli Print this semester! Gelli Printing uses a gelatin or gel plate to press paints and patterns onto paper to create a work of art. Students pressed different shapes together to make abstract art, houses, and even the figure of an angel. They did a wonderful job learning this new technique.

Harvesting Greens for Smoothies
MEJ and MES classes have been growing “super greens” in their hydroponic garden. They learned how plants can be grown without soil, using water, nutrients, and maintaining a proper pH balance. The students also learned the value of a nutritious “green drink.” They were able to harvest the greens and make power smoothies using the greens and frozen fruit.
Middle
Level “The Holy Rosary is a powerful, spiritual weapon. Use it with confidence and you’ll be amazed the the results.” - St. Josemaria Escriva On October 29th, the Middle Level Angels gathered to celebrate the month of the Holy Rosary by praying the Rosary as a school community.
Students Pray a Living Rosary Enrichment Workshops
Middle Level students participate in their monthly Enrichment Workshops throughout the school year. Activities include canvas painting, cooking, coding, gardening, music, creative writing, service learning, and spiritual enrichment. Enrichment Workshops are held monthly and include lessons created by teachers as a way to share their interests and passions with our students. Enrichment Workshops are an overwhelming favorite for students and teachers.
Feast Day of Jeanne De Matel
Students in our Middle Level Religious Studies classes created beautiful works of art for the Feast Day of Jeanne de Matel. You can view the different works by visiting iwacc.org/gallery. Jeanne De Matel was the Foundress of the Order of the Incarnate Word. She was born in Roanne, France in 1596. In her love of the Incarnate Word, she passionately pursued the desire of her life, to “extend the mystery of the Incarnation,” by founding the Order of Sisters of the Incarnate Word and Blessed Sacrament.

High School First IWA Farmer’s Market Incarnate Word Academy hosted its first-ever IWA Cares Farmer’s Market on September 30th as part of Care of Creation Week. Care of Creation Week highlights the command that God gave Adam and Eve and that Christ renewed in the Gospel: care for the earth and all who live on it. The school invited individuals and businesses who embody the words of Genesis, “The Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it,” to participate in the IWA Cares Famer’s Market.
Angel Cross Country Places Third in District Championship Congratulations to our Boys and Girls Cross Country teams for their third place finishes at the Cross Country District Championship on October 16th in Victoria. Three IWA runners placed in the Top 10 and earned All-District honors. The IWA Cross Country team went on to compete in the TAPPS 5A State Cross Country Championship in Waco. The team kept their state Cross Country trip tradition alive by attending Mass on Sunday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church and enjoying lunch at Monument Hill State Park in La Grange on their way to Waco. Congratulations to all the Angels on a great Cross Country season!
Virtual College Visits
A variety of virtual tours of colleges and universities are being hosted for our High School level students. Students are pictured here at their virtual tour with SFA. Other college visits have included Texas A&M University College Station, University of Chicago, and Texas Tech University.
Celebration Mass Marks 150 Years in Catholic Education for the Sisters of the Incarnate Word and Blessed Sacrament In 2021, we celebrate the rich 150-year history of Incarnate Word Academy which began in 1871 when the Sisters of the Incarnate Word and Blessed Sacrament opened the school within a week of arriving in Corpus Christi. We are honored to be part of the Sisters’ incredible legacy in Corpus Christi and appreciate the contributions of our entire IWA family to 150 amazing years of Incarnate Word Academy. “Our sesquicentennial is an opportunity for us Sisters to invite others to join us in thanking God for the countless blessings we have received individually and as a community these past 150 years. We celebrate with joyful gratitude all those who have shared in our efforts to proclaim the unconditional love of God for all. And we commit ourselves to continue our efforts to be a loving presence for the Church of Corpus Christi.” -Sr. Annette Wagner
