IT’S ALL IN THE DETAILS creating an unforgettable charter

A

t IYC we understand that creating an unforgettable charter is all about the details. After all, what is it that makes a superyacht charter so special? Simply put, it is the combination of hundreds of aspects –from the yacht itself, to the choice of destination, and everything else in

between – that add up to a totally custom experience. It is a stewardess appearing by your side with a perfectly made beverage just before you get thirsty. It is a special degustation birthday meal, perfectly themed to the occasion. It is the local knowledge that takes you to a secret beach, and the shell you bring home as a souvenir. If a yacht charter is a symphony, and all the details the musicians, then IYC’s charter team are the conductor that oversees and brings everything together in a beautiful performance.

So why choose to charter? Superyacht charter holidays have rightly earned a reputation as the most incredible and unforgettable holiday experiences in the world, combining one-of-a-kind destinations with privacy, first class service and an unbeatable luxury setting. Popular with families, couples and groups of all sizes, a superyacht charter is customisable in a way that is unrivalled by any other luxury vacation setting. The 49-meter OURANOS is one such vessel, boasting three tenders, a transparent kayak, scuba diving equipment and a unique two-person mini-submarine on board. The addition of two F5SR Seabobs completes the package, with the 2018 model leaps and bounds ahead of the first version launched 10 years ago. The new F5SR Seabob allows guests to dive down into the ocean with self-controlled propulsion at seven different levels. Getting up close to fish, coral and wrecks while zipping through the water with ease, the new model comes with two integrated cameras to capture special moments underwater.

CREATING THE WORLD’S MOST EXCLUSIVE EXPERIENCES A

s the way discerning travellers use their yachts is shifting, with more and more people looking to enjoy unique experiences and make priceless memories during their time on board, IYC also continues to evolve its offering. A new partnership

between IYC and GR8 Group, the world-leading experience agency, will allow IYC clients to take advantage of once in a lifetime experiences around the world, both on board and ashore. GR8 is a “top of the line” international team of creative professionals dedicated to designing and customizing the most exclusive experiences the world has to offer for their portfolio of private and corporate clients.

calibre of experience that clients of GR8 can expect. In 2018, GR8’s ‘Once Upon A Kitchen’ event brought together four of the world’s top chefs to cook for 300 guests in New York and was hailed as a once in a lifetime dining event. Miami Beach is the next destination for the event on December 2019. GR8’s approach perfectly fits with the bespoke world of yachts and IYC’s similar commitment to ensuring excellence in all they do. With a strong presence in other luxury markets, it was a natural fit for GR8 to move into the yachting world and IYC was the obvious partner for this growth strategy. “IYC shares our values and talks the same language, offering the highest level of personalized service to their clients,” says Galter. “We wanted to partner with a market-leading company with an innovative approach to customer service and experiences, and IYC perfectly fit the bill.” In addition to their onshore offerings, the GR8 team will now curate superyacht-specific experiences.

In addition to garnering exclusive access to key events, in the worlds of fashion, entertainment, sports, food, wine and travel, GR8 tailor one-of-a-kind, out-of-the-box experiences to each of their clients that no other agency can offer, from an intimate family trip to a Fortune 500 corporate event. The experiences vary from private after hours access to the Louvre and the Sistine Chapel, to a personal experience with tennis and golf top legends to landing a fighter jet on an aircraft carrier.

By working hand in hand, IYC and GR8 will be able to provide customers with an all-round offering that is far above and beyond anything else on the superyacht market. “Superyachts are, by nature, spectacular and offer every possible amenity, but too often the special experiences that are needed to elevate a superyacht charter to the next level are lacking,” says Galter. “This is where we come in, offering IYC clients exceptional itineraries and experiences that complement the yachting lifestyle.” The GR8 IYC partnership will include both on board and onshore experiences, allowing guests to make the most of their

ITI N ERARY An easy cruising distance from Monaco, Corsica, known as “the island of beauty” blends a unique French and Italian flavour. A French island off the Italian coast, the residents of Corsica have a true pride in their national identity and independence. Corsica is a unique destination where old and new join together in splendid unison, and the laidback ways of the Mediterranean mingle with chic, stylish modern French lifestyle. Corsica’s distinctly Italian flavour is threaded through the customs, language and cuisine. Ancient towns, superb dining, enchanting yet sophisticated ports and endless blue skies make Corsica a “must-see” Mediterranean destination. Filled with prehistoric and antique sites, museums and hikes through the national park which covers half of the island, a week long charter will allow you to see all the best of Corsica.

DAY 1 - ST FLORENT Start your charter in the historic fishing village of St Florent, which sits between mountain ranges and dazzling white sand beaches. Affectionately dubbed ‘St Flo’, the town is quieter than some of its Mediterranean cousins, but is popular with VIPs looking to escape the crowds. Stroll through the old town, enjoying the scenery, food and shopping, before a swim on one of St Flo’s unspoilt beaches.

DAY 2 - CALVI Arrive into the fortressed town of Calvi, where you will be greeted by the sight of the Citadel looming over the town. Built in the 13th century, the Citadel is well worth a visit. Once a busy Roman port, Calvi is named for the ‘calvus’ rock that the Citadel sits on. The town centre is sunny and quaint, while the south side of Calvi is home to Revellata, a long crescent beach of white sand, one of the most beautiful spots in Corsica with safe and shallow turquoise waters. The marina

Propriano

is another popular spot, home to elegant seafood restaurants and lively cocktail bars.

DAY 5 - AJACCIO Known as the birthplace of Napolean Bonaparte, Ajaccio is proud of this heritage with numerous museums and statues in his honour studded around the town. Soak in the historic feel of Ajaccio and pay a visit to the Central Place where time seems to slow down. Take your pick from one of the local Muscat wines to enjoy from the deck of your yacht as you watch the sun set. Palompagia

DAY 3 - GIROLATA Enjoy a scenic cruise from Calvi to Girolata, taking in the stunning landscape of Corsica – white cliffs pair with red-roofed houses and in a blend that is unique to Corsica. Girolata is only accessible by yacht, meaning it has retained its charm and is quieter than other parts of the island. Stroll along the pebbled beaches. Keen hikers may like the fourhour return walk to Col-de-Croix which will reward you with

DAY 6 - PORTO POLLO En route to Porto Pollo anchor off the Gulf of Valinco and explore the Gulf’s hidden treasures including tiny beaches and picturesque caves. Continue on to Porto Pollo, a water lovers delight with clear waters filled with fish and many snorkelling spots. Porto Pollo has a rich history, with numerous archaeological sites to explore, including the castle and menhirs (standing stones).

sweeping views of the bay. The waters here are some of the clearest you will find in the Mediterranean.

DAY 4 - PORTO Follow the red-cliffed coastline along from Girolata to Porto, much of which is a designated reserve that is abundant with natural beauty and historical sites. Porto’s beautiful waters are the perfect spot to enjoy some watersports, before coming ashore to explore the quaint village. The local aquarium is a window into the waterlife around Corsica, and especially popular with children.

DAY 7 - BONIFACIO Anchor below the caves of Bonifacio, before heading in to explore the caves and inlets. Cruise in to Bonifacio and drink in the scenery, with the port’s narrow entrance hidden at the foot of the cliffs that tower over the harbour. Bonifacio town is perched high on the cliffs, with beautiful views. Enjoy some lively music and sample the best of the local restaurants and bars before concluding your time in Corsica. Try the classic Corsican fish soup, and a glass of the white wine, which the region is famed for.

True to the Italian attitude, the locals have held fast to their traditional lifestyles and pastel-hued terraced houses which merge into the landscape, and the opulence of this glittering region has simply grown around them.

highlight of the Amalfi Coast, Capri is an unforgettable island that encapsulates all the charms of the Italian Riviera. With stunning scenery, modern shopping, world-class dining, and an air of chic glamour, Capri offers plenty to see and do. The island is

dotted with beautiful old villas and historic sites, including the Medieval old town accessed only by foot. According to legend, Capri is where mythological sirens sang to Odysseus’ sailors. Just like the sirens, Capri has its own allure – once made famous as a destination for celebrities of the 1950s, today it is just as popular but still retains the same elegance and chic glamour that first drew admirers. Capri has a long history with sea travelers, and even today it is best visited and explored by boat. Beautiful limestone crags jut out of the ocean, and grottos and clear diving grounds are just waiting to be explored.

ITI N ERARY Greece boasts 9000 miles of coastline, the 10th longest in the world, and more than 2000 islands. The twelve Dodecanese islands, and 150 less known islets, lie less than a hundred miles from the Turkish coast and are positively soaked in rich and complex ancient history. The Dodecanese islands seem unchanged since the times of Odysseus, providing an impressive feel of ancient Greece. The marks of those that have travelled through the region are easily found, from the Romans and ancient Greeks, through to Medieval knights; the rich heritage is also infused with hints of the Byzantine and more recent Italian occupation. DAY 3 - NISYROS One of the most beautiful Aegean islands, largely untouched by tourism, legend says that Nisyros was created during the war between Giants and Gods. The sea God Poseidon is said to have chased the Giant Polyvotis to Kos, cut a part of it off and thrown it to his enemy, sinking him forever – that rock became Nisyros island and it is said that island’s volcanic explosions are the breath of the defeated Giant. DAY 6 - SYMI Symi is home to what is hailed as the most beautiful harbour in Greece. On either side of a steep-sided fjord rise tier upon tier of houses, some white, some pastel yellow, but virtually all with Neo-Classical pediments – a reminder that 100 years ago this was one of Greece’s most prosperous islands. ITI N ERARY The islands of the Bahamas have lured and captivated seafarers for centuries, enchanting both settlers and traders alike. Explorer Christopher Columbus landed on San Salvador in 1492 and declared it to be a ‘baja mar’ or ‘shallow sea’ – and hence The Bahamas gained its name. The Abacos is a 120-mile boomerang-shaped chain of islands and cays in the northern Bahamas, each as stunning as the next. Boasting endless beaches and coves, lush forests, authentic culture and stunning coral reefs, the Abacos are an often overlooked jewel of the Bahamas. Once famous for their shipbuilding heritage, the islands still welcome large numbers of visiting yachts keen to explore the stunning cruising grounds. The main islands of Great Abaco and Little Abaco form “the mainland,” with plenty to see and do both onshore and on the water. With sheltered waters and schools of tropical fish dancing beneath the surface, a cruise to

DAY 1 – LITTLE HARBOUR BAY Departing from Marsh Harbour, your Abacos adventure starts on the Southern Sea of Abaco; anchor up in Little Harbour Bay or the Bight of Old Robinson Bay. A sheltered paradise, the Bay is home to the Abaco Yacht Club. Come ashore and view the bronze sculptures by artist Randolph Johnson who originally settled the island in 1951. Experience the laid back Pete’s Pub for delicious and creative cocktails or some fresh seafood. Take in the sunset with a paddle behind Channel Cay.

DAY 2 – SOUTHERN SEA OF ABACO Visit Robinson’s Creek in the morning, exploring the mangroves and blue holes, in the company of stingrays, mangroves and tropical fish. Snorkel in O’Neil creek and swim with three different varieties of endangered sea turtles – a truly special experience. Continue your adventures in the water on Lynyard Cay and Goole Cay, diving for conches, or simply relax on one of the many stunning beaches.

DAY 5 – GREAT GUANA CAY Take a picnic ashore on the north side of Guana Cay, the largest cay in the Abacos. This welcoming island is best navigated by golf cart – take your time to explore. Known for its spectacular beaches, the Cay also boasts several snorkelling sites. Visit Nippers, one of the most popular beach bars in the Bahamas, for a sundowner while you take in one of the vibrant sunsets the Cay is known for.

DAY 6 – GREEN TURTLE CAY Enroute to Green Turtle Cay stop and enjoy the unique experience of swimming with pigs at No Name Cay – a must-do photo opportunity. Anchor off Green Turtle Cay and take a tender to Lincoln Park to feed the sharks and stingrays. Cruise to North Plymouth, a quaint village on Green Turtle Cay, where you can wander the streets and soak in the charm and atmosphere. New Plymouth is still home to many of the descendants of the original loyalists who settled on the Cay in the 1700s. Make sure you sample a Goombay Sash, the national drink.

DAY 3 – ELBOW CAY / LIGHTHOUSE Anchor off Tahiti Bay at the tip of Elbow Cay. Once home to British loyalists in the 18th century, the Cay’s main village, Hopetown, boasts a sheltered harbour and is overlooked by a striking red and white striped lighthouse. Spend the morning wandering around Hopetown, a characterful town full of charm, before enjoying lunch on a nearby sandbank with the ocean lapping at your feet.

DAY 7 – TREASURE CAY End your charter with a visit to the famed Treasure Cay, home to a 3.5 mile stretching beach of squeaky white sand. Hailed as one of the best beaches in the region, the breathtaking scenes are an immediate explanation as to why. Try the resorts of Dunmore and Ocean View Club (a family run Harbour Island institution) for beachside fine dining, or for something unique, visit the sushi and wine bar of a former Nobu chef, Da Vine Wine and Sushi.

LOCAL CULTURE Some say that Harbour Island is the birthplace of the Bahamas, with the original architecture of the Island’s British settlers copied throughout the country. There are stories of buried treasure, and of prohibition, but these days the island is more famous for its friendly people, who affectionately call the island ´Briland´.

MAKING A DIFFERENCE IYC has a strong belief in the importance of making our mark on the world in a positive way, and has always cultivated an ethos of altruism throughout the company. Thus, The Freedom Waters Foundation was founded, with John and a fellow broker launching the Foundation as a way to offer boat trips to young cancer patients and their families. “I said to myself we need to get some of our yacht owner clients to take some of these families out on the water, because these people and their children are suffering and they need something to take their mind off it,” says John. John was as good as his word, and quickly set about finding boat owners who would be willing to partner with him on this goal. Based out of Florida, the Foundation has now been underway for nearly 15 years and runs several threehour trips a month, with local boat owners donating the use of their boats to the Foundation and their guests. Having originally been founded to host child cancer patients and their families, the Foundation has since expanded its offering to include veterans and other individuals of all ages and special needs. Today the Freedom Waters mission is: “Enhancing the lives of individuals with special needs and veterans through providing therapeutic boat experiences. One of the most frequently used boats used by the Foundation is a striking 122’ 1926 antique yacht, Mariner 3, whose owner generously provides it for use seven months of the year. “It’s such a gorgeous yacht and everyone loves it… it’s older than everyone who steps on board,” says John. unforgettable charter experience.” Ideally suited to on-water living, Skyfall has numerous outdoor spaces for relaxing in. “Skyfall is an incredible yacht, with so many different spaces, but her outdoor areas are especially impressive and the sundeck is phenomenal,” says Captain Reid. In addition to her two large aft decks, with comfortable seating and a full dining set up for al fresco meals, the yacht’s huge sun deck is a popular hub during charters thanks to its large plunge pool surrounded by large sunpads, bar and hot tub. The perfect set up for relaxing and making the most of warm weather and beautiful surroundings! For the added wow factor for charter arrival, and for quick and easy access when moored in further out anchorages, the sundeck also serves as a touch and go helipad – an impressive feature normally only found on much larger yachts – and can also convert to a basketball court. Completing the picture are a large beach club and host of toys and tenders for enjoying the Caribbean’s warm waters.

Skyfall’s accommodation set up means she is particularly appealing choice for larger charter groups, and is able to welcome up to 12 guests in six cabins. All cabins are spacious and boast ensuites and entertainment systems. Lead charter guests will be particularly impressed by the split level master suite, which is a stunning space that features a private office, his and hers bathrooms and stunning 280 degree views from the large king bed.
