It’s a warm afternoon in Tournai, and Pat Donckels is seated at a sun-dappled table, sipping a cup of coffee, surrounded by fabric swatches and ceramic samples. “I’m always thinking of stories when I create,” she explains, gently tracing the edge of a woven jute fabric. “It’s never just about designing an object; it’s about the feeling it evokes, the memories it stirs.” This philosophy has guided Pat through her role as Creative Director of J-Line, a brand known for turning homes into spaces that breathe warmth, creativity, and personality.
For the Spring-Summer 2025 collection, Pat started a personal journey of inspiration. “I’ve always been fascinated by how different parts of the world celebrate life through design,” Pat says. “Whether it’s the sun-soaked colours of the Mediterranean or the quiet minimalism of Japanese interiors, there’s a common thread: people finding beauty in their everyday surroundings.”
The new collection is, in many ways, a reflection of Pat’s own explorations and experiences. Each theme, from the vibrant energy of Mumbai Memories to the serene calm of Olive Origami, invites you into a world crafted with intention. “I want people to not only see these pieces but to feel them”, she smiles. “Each collection has its own rhythm, its own story to tell.”
From Mediterranean charm to zen-inspired minimalism, the new collection creates a sensory journey through diverse cultures and moods.
The Spring-Summer 2025 collection feels incredibly diverse in its influences. Can you tell us more about what inspired these themes?
Pat Donckels: “Every year, I look for stories that resonate with me. This collection wasn’t just about making something beautiful; it was about capturing a feeling, a moment, or a place that had left a mark on me. For Maison Majorelle, for instance, I was inspired by a trip to Morocco. I remember walking through the Majorelle Garden in Marrakech, completely mesmerized by the cobalt blue walls, the way the light shifted through the leaves, and the vibrant yellow pots scattered across the space. It was the perfect marriage of nature and architecture, indoors and outdoors, and I thought, ‘How do I bring this feeling of serenity and vibrancy into someone’s living room?’
Similarly, Beach Breeze is close to my heart because it reminds me of summers spent near the ocean, where simplicity reigns supreme: bare feet on wooden floors, rattan furniture that ages beautifully with time, and that timeless joy of collecting seashells on the beach. I wanted people to feel that sense of relaxation and ease in their homes.”
With so many different aesthetics in this collection, how do you balance bold choices with versatility?
Pat Donckels: “That’s always the challenge, isn’t it?” Pat laughs. “But I think that’s what makes it exciting. Every collection stands on its own, yet they’re all connected by a shared sense of harmony. With Colour Cocoon, for example, it was about finding the perfect blend between pure, clean whites and those unexpected pops of colour, something that feels fresh and coastal, but not overwhelming. You could be bold with vibrant textiles or keep it simple with the ribbed glass vases and white wood. It’s flexible.
On the other hand, Olive Origami speaks to the minimalist in me. It’s inspired by the Japanese philosophy of wabi-sabi, where there’s beauty in simplicity and imperfection. The earthy greys, creams, and olive tones create this calming backdrop that lets the mind rest. It’s a counterbalance to the vibrancy of some of the other themes, offering people a space to breathe.”
It’s clear that personal experiences are deeply embedded in your designs. Is there a piece from this collection that holds special significance for you?
Pat Donckels: Pat takes a thoughtful pause before answering. “I’d have to say the ceramic ‘Kaia’ vases in the Sunset Spice theme. When I was younger, I spent an evening watching the sun set over a Tuscan hillside. It was one of those moments you never forget. The sky turned this deep orange, fading into soft purples and browns, and I remember thinking, ‘I want to bottle this feeling of warmth and peace.’ When we were developing
the Sunset Spice collection, I kept coming back to that memory. Those earthy tones, terracotta, deep brown, and orange, are all about capturing that magical time of day when everything slows down, and there’s a sense of calm and reflection.”
How do you hope people will use these collections in their homes?
Pat Donckels: “That’s the beauty of interior design, it’s so personal,” Pat says, leaning in with enthusiasm. “What I love about these collections is that they give people the freedom to create their own narrative. Maybe someone wants to use the rattan and jute pieces from Beach Breeze to create a serene reading corner, or they’re drawn to the vibrant patterns in Mumbai Memories to make a statement in their dining room. The collections are designed to complement one another, so you can mix and match, creating layers that reflect your personality.
My hope is that these pieces aren’t just seen as ‘decorations’, but as part of the story people tell about their home. Whether it’s through the colour palette, the texture, or the material, each piece is designed to make people feel something: whether that’s tranquillity, excitement, or nostalgia.”
Looking forward, what can we expect from J-Line? Are there any trends you’re excited about?
Pat Donckels: Pat smiles, a glint of excitement in her eyes. “Oh, there’s so much ahead! We’re always evolving, but one thing that’s really exciting is how we’re embracing sustainability, not just as a trend, but as a fundamental part of our design ethos. We’re looking at more eco-friendly materials, but also at how we can create pieces that have longevity, that people will want to keep in their homes for years to come.
There’s also this pull towards creating more tactile, sensory experiences in the home. You’ll see more textures, like the raw, organic feel of papier maché in Beach Breeze or the handwoven details in our rattan pieces. It’s about making homes feel lived-in and loved, while still bringing that refined J-Line aesthetic people know us for. I’m excited to see how our customers interpret the collection in their own spaces.”
“Design isn’t just about aesthetics; it’s about creating spaces that feel alive, that tell your story. This SpringSummer 2025 collection is about inviting the world into your home, one beautiful, meaningful piece at a time.”
― Pat Donckels, Creative Director, J-Line

“Jardin Majorelle, named after the painter Jacques Majorelle, bursts with vivid colours, a reflection of his artistic legacy.”
― Delphine Ricour
“Inspired by her life in Morocco and the vibrant colours of Jardin Majorelle, Delphine Ricour shares how we can bring a touch of Moroccan charm into Western interiors.”
Delphine Ricour’s deep connection with Morocco has profoundly influenced her perspective on design. “Living here has shaped how I see the world. There is a rhythm and vibrancy in Moroccan life that you just cannot ignore”, she says thoughtfully. Delphine has spent years deeply engaged in Moroccan culture, and her experiences became a well of inspiration for J-Line’s latest collection, Maison Majorelle.
“The Heart of Morocco: Delphine Ricour shares her inspiration for Maison Majorelle.”
While the collection was a team effort, Delphine’s vision and lifestyle in Morocco played a key role in shaping its direction. Maison Majorelle is a celebration of Moroccan artistry, blending vivid blues, bright citron yellows, and arabesque patterns that capture the essence
of indoor-outdoor living found in traditional Moroccan riads. In this interview, Delphine reflects on her time in Morocco and how the team translated her inspiration into a collection that can bring a hint of that warmth into Western homes.
How has your life in Morocco shaped the way you approach interior design?
Delphine Ricour: “Living in a riad in Morocco for so many years has really changed how I view design. It is not just about the aesthetics; there is a whole lifestyle connected to the way people here interact with their spaces. Colours, textures, and patterns are part of daily life, often influenced by the Berber culture, and there is a beautiful balance between the boldness of those elements and the natural materials that ground them. With Maison Majorelle, I wanted to share that experience: how Moroccan design is vibrant, but also deeply rooted in nature and craftsmanship. I think that balance is what makes Moroccan style so timeless and adaptable.”
The Jardin Majorelle seems to be a recurring source of inspiration. What was it about that space that resonated with you?
Delphine Ricour: “Jardin Majorelle, named after the painter Jacques Majorelle, bursts with vivid colours, a reflection of his artistic legacy. It is peaceful, yet full of life. The vivid Majorelle blue of the walls contrasts so beautifully with the variety of the most beautiful exotic and luxuriant plants, and that contrast is something I often think about when looking at how colour can transform a space. The bright citron yellow also plays a part; it is bold, sunny, and it complements the blues and aquas that reflect Morocco’s natural beauty. The patterns you find in the tiles and the subtle details in the garden’s architecture were a huge influence for the collection. They embody the craftsmanship that is central to Moroccan design. As a team, we wanted to bring some of that artistry into Maison Majorelle.”
and citron yellows can transform a room instantly, giving it that feeling of warmth and vibrancy that I experienced in Morocco. It is also about finding balance. I always suggest incorporating natural materials, like terracotta or woven textures, alongside the bold elements. It is something I have seen a lot in Moroccan homes, and it keeps the space feeling grounded and connected to nature. And of course, lighting is essential. Moroccan lanterns, with their intricate patterns, create the most beautiful, soft glow. It is such an easy way to add intimacy and charm to a room. By layering these elements thoughtfully, you can capture that Moroccan essence while making it work perfectly in a Western setting.”
“Moroccan design is more than decoration; it’s about creating authentic spaces of warmth and comfort. With Maison Majorelle, we bring that spirit to pieces for any home, anywhere.”
― Delphine Ricour
How can people bring the Maison Majorelle theme into their Western homes?
Delphine Ricour: “One of the things I love most about Moroccan design is how versatile it is. You really do not need to completely redecorate your home to bring the spirit of Maison Majorelle into your space. Start with small touches that have a big impact, like a brightly coloured cushion or a rug with an arabesque pattern. I personally think that the ceramic vases in those vivid blues
What is your favourite piece from the Maison Majorelle collection?
Delphine Ricour: “I am particularly fond of the lanterns in those vivid blue and citron yellow colours. When you light candles in them, they create the most cosy, intimate, heartwarming atmosphere. The intricate patterns in the lanterns cast beautiful, dynamic shadows, adding a layer of depth and magic to any space. It is that interplay of light and shadow that makes a room feel alive, inviting, and truly special. These lanterns embody everything I love about Moroccan design: how functional objects can also be artful, evoking emotion and connection.”
How did working with the J-Line team shape the Maison Majorelle collection?
Delphine Ricour: “The team played a crucial role in bringing the vision to life. My experiences in Morocco were just the starting point; it was through collaboration that these ideas took their final form. Everyone brought their own expertise, whether it was sourcing the right materials, fine-tuning the colour palette, or crafting the patterns. The energy throughout the project was amazing, and creative director Pat’s personal experience was also a joy to integrate into the process. Together, we found a way to translate the essence of Moroccan artistry into something that resonates with Western homes. It was truly a shared journey, and I think that is reflected in the depth and richness of the collection.”
