My first year in Gracie

J I U - J I T S U

Hi, my name is HĂŠdi, I am 6 years old and I am bullyproof. I started to practice Gracie Jiu-Jitsu

one year ago in Tallinn and for a few weeks I also took lessions in Singapore.

It has been a long journey to get

4 stripes on my white belt.

Tallinn

The training always starts with

warming up.

After that, we create a circle, do stretching and we

discuss topics like right manner.

We always play the game "Simon says". It helps us

ISSUE 1 | JAN '19 to focus.

A year ago, I always cried when I failed in this game. But by

now I have learned that no need to be always the winner.

Bert, our trainer explains us the next exercise. He

knows a lot of tricks how to defend ourselves.

ISSUE 1 | JAN '19

He always demonstrates what to do and we can

volunteer to practice with him.

ISSUE 1 | JAN '19

Then we practice in pairs with our partners.

ISSUE 1 | JAN '19

But today something special happened. Bert called me in,

and told me that I need to do a bully battle.

As I have four stripes, I knew that one day it will happen. I

remember Bert told me before.

ISSUE 1 | JAN '19

I got all excited. I knew that now I have to remember all the

training and practices we did over the last 15 months.

ISSUE 1 | JAN '19

And I did it. I knew all the tricks and games we played so many

times.

So the "bully" was giving up and we agreed that he won't do this

again.

But my exam was not finished yet. I had to prove that I know the 5

rules of engagement in Gracie Jiu-Jitsu.

It's easy-peasy...we practiced them every morning in the car with my

Daddy and Mommy. :)

Gracie Jiu-Jitsu 5 rules of engagement: Rule #1: Avoid the fight at all costs. Rule #2: If physically attacked, defend yourself. Rule #3: If verbally attacked, follow the Three T-steps (talk, tell, tackle). Rule #4: Never punch or kick the bully, establish control and negotiate. Rule #5: When applying submissions use minimal force and negotiate.

And then...the happiest moment came. I received my white-yellow belt.

One day I wanna be a Jiu-Jitsu trainer like Bert.

We always finish the training with our favourite game: dodge ball
