Gentrification is a major issue in Maboneng where many people are excluded because of socio-economic differences that exist between the wealthy and under privileged within the community. The purpose of my intervention is to create a research facility that will be used as Hub for the university as a post graduate research opportunity. The aim of this facility will be to investigate and understand the impact that various issues such as Gentrification have on the community and what opportunities are available to create a better understanding of these issues in order to solve them in the long run.
This Facility will allow students to interact with various professionals to gain insight on the issues of the time and create opportunities for students to give informed advice to professionals who face the challenge of resolving these issues in their own projects.
The Concept behind the form and tectonics of the structure is to create an inviting space using different interpretations of permeability. Permeable space can also be space that can be seen in its totality but not be accessed. The conceptual nature of permeable space creates a conversation between the structure and the issues of gentrification.
