New Scholarships Added It is with great joy that we announce the addition of two HS scholarships to the other seven (7) scholarships already being funded by our parish education endowment. Through the generosity of Mr. and Mrs. Gerhardt Perschke, two new scholarships have been established. The Chorus scholarship in memory of Mr. Perschke’s first wife, Susan (Kass) Perschke ‘65. Awarded annually this $1,000 scholarship is being offered to one current HS student who meets the criteria of the award, has the recommendation of an administrator, teacher, or other community leader, and completes a personal essay on their current interest in chorus. The first award was presented to Laura Gaerditz ‘16. In her essay she wrote,

“the most important thing that I learned from singing in a choir is not how good you sound as an individual, it’s what you sound as as a group. You have to listen to each other and support and help each other. That is what makes choirs great.”

The Excellence in Math scholarship in memory of Sister Natalie Gerlach SSSF is currently funded as a temporary scholarship (ten years). It will be awarded at the Secondary School Honors Night this coming May. The application, criteria, etc. for this $500 scholarship is currently being finalized. Students will be permitted to apply this spring for this new award.

Recent Award Ceremonies Four Endowment Scholarship Awards presented at Fall 2014 Endowment Award Ceremony At the reception for our annual Mass of Remembrance on All Souls Day, November 2nd, four of the seven scholarship awards ($500 each) were presented to 6 deserving High School students. The Creative Spirit award in memory of Ms. Carol Molenda went to Hunter Kogen ‘17, Mariam Mekha ‘16, and Melody Quintero ‘16. The Civic Leadership Award in honor of Mr. Robert McTigue was presented to Joseph Jerger ‘15. The Journalism Award in memory of Patrick Heffernan ‘72 was presented to Brittany Camana ‘16. The Christian Leadership award in memory of Fr. Arthur Krueger was presented to Iris Gasca ‘15.

Chris Ford Scholarship Awards presented at Honors Night 2014 The first disbursements from the new Parish Educational Endowment were awarded in memory of Coach Chris Ford for students who exemplified terrific school spirit. Six students applied for the award and two finalists were interviewed by Susan Ford McDonald (far right), sister of Ms. Gemo, C.E.O., (far left) congratulates Rachel Sefah ’15 (left) and Hayley Kogen ’15 the late coach and daughter of Bernard Ford ’54. As both were outstanding, the estate of the late Christopher Ford matched our initial disbursement of $1000 so both girls could receive the initial award.
