American Lobsters are moving farther north each year due to climate change. The body of water they thrive in now is one of the fastest heating bodies of water on the planet. The international maritime laws prohibit the domestic fishing of any species over that countries E.E.Z. boundary. The Lobster species is currently moving from Americas fishing zone into exclusively Canada’s. There is no preventing this migration since the time line for this to prevail is already set far in motion. We are in a boom for the lobster industry, which means more jobs then ever have been created around this primary ecology. The biggest bubble lobstering has ever seen is about to deflate and will be unable to come back. This project details the incredible type of struggle and ingenuity it could take to keep the economy that surrounds this species alive as the climate moves the lobsters in the ocean out of our waters. This intervention creates a new type of urbanism that revolves around a revolutionary type of lobster farming that mixes local industries and creates a semi natural habitat for the lobsters.

PROCESSING PLANT
Processing Plant Axonometric In Winter
Construction + Ecological Change Illustrating the new construction process that would have to take place to develop carved out lobster farms from the shoreline from the located islands. The drawing shows the juxtaposition of the change to industry, and the transition from terrestrial to marine ecologies. The key of the project was to investigate in depth a way that the industry of granite mining, and lobster farming can mutually benefit the economy, and the underlying ecology that supports the industries and local residents. The land starts as a terrestrial dominated shoreline with exposed granite along the edge. This is slowly carved away, in a specific pattern so when the granite miners leave, the quarry is sized specifically for a lobster farm. This, the pinnacle of the project will keep lobstermen and the families that live there ability to continue their livelihood. At some point, the farms will be out of use, because the waters will be to warm even for a mechanically altered farm, here in the Gulf of Maine. This is where the farms complete the transformation and become an “unassisted” marine ecology along the shoreline, with the equipment from the lobster farms being reutilizes as the infrastructure for an artificial reef along the edge of the islands.

Children’s Library, Italy: Bridge and Promenade Perspective
Main Plan of Library and Connecting Bridges and Park
Sections and Indoor Parks Sections show the nature of the parks that are a continuation of the park north of the library. The concept for these drawings where to show the reemergence of the park within the architecture brought together by the promenade bridge truss. The porosity of the bridge allows for free flow within the buildings and the flow from building, to park, to promenade. The bridge connects each building which have unique program. The bridge, concrete will stand out against the white masses, and the internal parks will show themselves through the masses. The Masses and bridge surround the river, leaving all external views from the bridge truss to the river, which is scattered with art and sculptures from the park.
Community Park, Ukraine: Site Section + Axon Vignettes The town of Ivanka, Ukraine was looking into creating a park that would attract a younger crowd, while respecting the historic nature of the square. The park takes on a contemporary form, while mitigating the historic nature of the park by sinking into the site, allowing for unobstructed views of the town’s
architecture and hiding the playfulness of the new addition. The elliptical parks take on multiple functions to create vibrant and well rounded community engagement. The pink undulating rubber ellipse is both a place to play and an amphitheater, sloping to the wooden theater, for projections and movies. The
park is calibrate on the inside for children, and ergonomically for adults on the exterior for safety. The green ellipsis is both a simple green space, and also an event . The ramp system is sized for large equipment for bands and other needs, as well as acting as seating on most days.
Undergraduate Housing Project
Micro Housing Project To make micro housing more attractive to a semi urban area, the building envelope holds as much urbanism as possible under the Charleston zoning code. Over 100 micro unites, a public pool, a movie theater, private laundry mat, two restaurants, a bar, communal out door spaces, and an entire public promenade
on the roof are all available without leaving the building. On the interior of the units, micro housing is sometimes suffocating, at less then 350sf a unit. To dilute the effects of such a small space, slight changes in floor heights, about 3 feet gave for a larger feel, and separation between inner spaces. Also the windows
allow for a greater connection to the exterior because of there chamfered edges creating a minimal profile around the window and giving the feel of having no boundary to the exterior. This also creates the defining aesthetic feature of the exterior.
