China’s western province of Sichuan, rocked by the devastating Wenchuan earthquake in 2008, is undergoing large scale transformation, giving testimony to China’s speedy, often “devil-may-care” attitude regarding urban and rural development.
Dujiangyan,
neighbor to Sichuan’s largest city of Chengdu, is a city with a stunning landscape which, despite centuries of urban growth, has continued to seep into the urban fabric. This project is an attempt to help stabilize a rapidly changing landscape through blurring
the lines between urban and rural, both physically and culturally. In sum, Edible City is about food security, regeneration, urban agriculture, and strengthening a Chinese community through food.
