POMPANO BEACH PUBLIC ART PROGRAM
8
In 2012, the City Commission adopted a public art ordinance to enhance the aesthetic and cultural value of the city by including works of art on public properties within the city. The City Commission next created the Public Art Committee to guide the implementation of this program. This Committee meets on a monthly basis at the Pompano Beach Cultural Center at 5 pm on the third Thursday of each month. The Public Art Committee strives to create artworks and a public art program that is inventive, unexpected and surprising and to collaborate with the community through its festivals and cultural facilities. Over the past few years, the City has participated in projects including two rounds of the Painted Pompano Fish Sculptures, Inside Out, Utility Box Wraps, Broward County VisualEYES Mural Program, the Barefoot Mailman, Old Town Mural, Daydream Mural and is currently working on installing three new sculptures in the next two months. The Public Art Committee has created a Ten-Year Master Plan, which proposes more than 27 unique projects over the next ten years. To learn more about the program, please contact Laura Atria 954-545-7800, ext. 3813. Please also join our Artist Network and stay informed of current and future Call for Artists and other exciting art opportunities taking place in Pompano Beach.

TAMIAMI TRAIL: IN THE BEGINNING
Pompano Beach’s Downtown can trace its renaissance to the opening of Bailey Contemporary Arts on April 16, 2014. In the five years since the ribbon cutting ceremony, the venue has been a catalyst for the City’s emerging cultural community and a key driver for local economic development. To celebrate this milestone, BaCA is showcasing the works of its resident artists, past and present, in an exhibition entitled Penta.
The botanical subjects were selected to mark the 100th anniversary in 2015 of the start of work on Tamiami Trail, a roadway begun in 1915 in Miami. The exhibition of original artwork by members of the Miami-based Tropical Botanic Artists Collective feature more than 30 plant portraits of depict species found along the route. Due to human intervention and changes in water flow, some of the plants illustrated are rare or endangered.
