EXISTENCIA NATURAL – NATURAL EXISTENCE & WORKS EXHIBITIONS OPENING RECEPTION

THE LATIN DIVOS

Existencia Natural – Natural Existence presented by the Latin American Art Pavillion features artworks by Guillermo Portieles. This artist’s paintings reflect social commentary on modernity. His use of architectural elements in his artwork represents their dual function, according to the artists, as shelters that protect us from the elements, and as mnemonic devices that house our memories. Works by Michelle Drummond exudes the true expression of life and exuberance of a woman from the islands. Originally from Jamaica, Michelle came to the U.S. to pursue an undergraduate education at St. Lawrence University in Upstate New York. While pursuing her undergraduate degree at St. Lawrence, she decided to explore fine arts as a creative outlet.

Meet this smooth yet spicy pop-opera trio already taking Miami by storm. The Latin Divos, featuring Ernesto Cabrera, tenor Fernando Gonzalez, baritone and Will Corujo, tenor, violin and saxophone who is also the director and founder. Their performances honor the great artists of romantic music — in Spanish, Italian, English and French, and they add Latin flavor to everything from opera to all-time favorites. In addition, the Violin and Sax- played by Will, makes them unique in the music genre as The New Latin Pop-Opera.

POMPANO BEACH PUBLIC ART PROGRAM

8

In 2012, the City Commission adopted a public art ordinance to enhance the aesthetic and cultural value of the city by including works of art on public properties within the city. The City Commission next created the Public Art Committee to guide the implementation of this program. This Committee meets the third Thursday of every month at the Pompano Beach Cultural Center at 5 pm. Since the program’s inception, the City Commission, through its Public Art Committee and other partners, have brought forward many exciting projects. On September 11, 2019, the City dedicated its newest piece of public art created by artist Cherie Saleeby entitled, Unbroken Spine. A Book of American Heroism. The City’s Fire Rescue Department acquired a piece of steel from the World Trade Center for use in a memorial for that would perpetually remember and honor the 343 incredibly courageous first responders who died saving lives during the tragic events that took place on September 11th, 2001. The department asked the Public Art Committee to utilize the steel as a public art project to achieve this goal. To learn more about this memorial and the City’s Public Art Program, please contact Laura Atria at 954-5457800, ext. 3813. Join our Artist Network to stay informed of current and future Calls to Artists and other exciting art opportunities taking place in Pompano Beach.
