MURDER MYSTERY DINNER THEATRE
On the first Thursday of each month, take a break from your day, bring your lunch and unleash your creativity. As you eat, enjoy a unique cultural experience that turns us all into poets. Each month, create, listen or watch different poems designed to spark the artist in you. Each workshop encourages you to step out of the mundane and explore your potential and escape from the daily stresses of life while remembering how beauty can be found in even the simplest of words. Guests are invited to bring their lunch, and a friend and come create a memorable piece of art. Free Wi-Fi available and light refreshments will be served.
Right now you Have A Dance with Death. This 1950s prom is a doo-wop disaster! When a death on the dance floor makes this prom night a party foul, it is up to you to figure out whodunit and get this dance back on track. Trade clues with your guests, gather information about the crime, and reveal the punk that made this prom nowheresville. This night of laughter and dancing is now too heavy to razz anyone’s berries, so it’s up to you to find the murderer! Word from the bird is this is one show you will not want to miss. This night is shootin’ to be swell despite the disaster. Ladies, bows and pins in your hair will go nicely with your puffy sleeved prom gowns. Gents, you will look sharp in white and black suits or tuxes. Get ready to put on your thinking caps; you’ll need your wits about you to solve this crime.

Join us for our monthly installments of Blended Conversations as we listen to a variety of local artists share their own real life stories in an intimate, relaxed and informal setting. In September, meet a National Poetry Slam competitor Mike McCain (@HalfPoetHalfAmazing), who honed the approach to his art while attending Florida State University. Much of his work is influenced by a testimony of resilience and keeping faith close by. After moving to Pompano Beach for a career in wholesale banking, he broadened his stage through his teaching in Europe. Refreshments Provided.

9/11: A DAY FOR HONORING OUR HEROES September 11 | 7:00 pm | FREE
This event recognizes our First Responders and Remembrance for all 9/11 victims. Guest speakers include: City of Pompano Beach Mayor Rex Hardin, Broward Sheriff Office Major Wayne Adkins and Pompano Beach Fire Chief John Jurgle. The Fort Lauderdale Symphonic Winds provides a live performance of patriotic classics. In addition, a variety of accomplished solo musicians will be performing. This year’s highlight is a presentation of the special Act of Bravery Award. The event is free and open to the public, although there is limited seating available. Doors open at 6:30 pm and the event begins at 7:00pm.
Sub Pop Records co-founder Bruce Pavitt reflects on independent media and its power to change global culture. His Seattle based record label, started from humble beginnings, signed an unknown group named Nirvana which helped put Seattle “on the map.” Join Pavitt for an intimate look at what it was like in the early years, including images from his book and photography exhibit Experiencing Nirvana.

A fellow of the Sundance Institute Documentary Program, Robert Adanto earned his MFA in Acting at NYU Tisch School of the Arts. He made his directorial debut with The Rising Tide in 2008, a feature-length documentary exploring the explosive Chinese contemporary art scene and continues to produce award-winning films that have been presented at international film festivals and leading museums around the globe. This month we explore his film Born Just Now, which takes an in-depth look at the Belgrade-based performance artist Marta Jovanović and her challenges.

Broward County’s first ever county-wide display of giant inflatable art visits the Pompano Beach Cultural Center on the Arts Plaza lawn as a lead-up to the County’s signature event – Riptide Music Festival. The public is encouraged to find the giants and post images with the hashtag #BrowardArts for a chance to win Riptide Music Festival passes. Created by international contemporary artists, the monumental and whimsical outdoor sculptures will be on view for two days each from September 6 through October 26, at nine locations throughout the county.

where it is used. There is also a description of each item’s traditional use(s) on these islands. The exhibition also includes a series of graphic narratives exploring the history of Caribbean cuisine. The information is organized based on flavor profiles, looking at how certain culinary staples made their way into the region, how certain items, preparations and serving methods are used differently or in the same way from island to island, and how certain food traditions bring the region together. LIFE DRAWING STUDIO
September 7 & 21 l 11 am - 2:00 pm l $20/adults l $10/students During this three-hour session, live models pose draped for short gesture, as well as longer poses. This program is ideal for individuals interested in portrait painting, character design, illustration, animation, anatomical drawing, however, ALL artists benefit from Life Drawing sessions. Artists are invited to bring their own materials and supplies. This activity doesn’t provide formal instruction; participants work at their own pace and in their preferred medium. PEN AND INK ILLUSTRATION WORKSHOP September 14 l 11 am - 3:00pm l $25/student
Learn techniques to combine drawing and painting in exciting ways. Explore the thrill of combining ink and water to produce intriguing translucent images. The workshop will demonstrate how to make and techniques on how to use ink wash along with sketch pen techniques to create texture. The Blanche Ely House Museum’s inaugural exhibition celebrates the professional and personal accomplishments of educational pioneers and community activists Blanche and Joseph Ely. Designed to offer an abbreviated glimpse into the couple’s extensive collection of photographs, letters and artifacts, the exhibition, developed by curatorial consultant, Derek Davis of Davis Kuumba Arts, will serve as the foundation for this venue’s future programming.
Dennis DeYoung is a founding member of STYX and the lead singer and writer on seven of the bands eight top ten hits. This concert, with six-piece band, showcases all the STYX greatest hits spanning the 70s, 80s and 90s. The set includes Top Ten hits, Lady, Babe, Come Sail Away, Too Much Time On My Hands, Best Of Times, Mr. Roboto plus Classic Rock Anthems Renegade, Blue Collar Man, Suite Madame Blue, Rockin The Paradise and more. Dennis is a legendary singer, songwriter, keyboardist, composer and record producer with a career spanning over 40 years. In 2012, the City Commission adopted a public art ordinance to enhance the aesthetic and cultural value of the city by including artworks on City public properties. The Public Art Committee was created to guide the program and meets the third Thursday of every month at the Pompano Beach Cultural Center at 5 pm. The City is honored to announce the dedication of a memorial for the tragic events that took place on September 11, 2001. The ceremony will be held on Wednesday, September 11 at 5:00 p.m. at Founders Park located at 201 NE 3rd Avenue. The dedication ceremony is free and open to the public. Photographed by Sub Pop Records founder Bruce Pavitt, Experiencing Nirvana provides an inside look into the early touring life of Nirvana, the Seattle grunge band whose spirit came to define the 90s. In this exhibit, Pavitt captures intimate moments of Kurt Cobain and his new band as they travel through Europe in 1989. This is the photographic story of the breakthrough that almost never happened.

SUPER NATURAL HUMANOIDS EXHIBITION
WILLIAM H. JOHNSON
Created by South Florida artists Aurora Molina and Julian Pardo, Super Natural Humanoids is an interactive installation of larger-than-life marionettes, which resemble older adults. Using levers and pulleys, guests will ‘activate’ these handcrafted works of art, encouraging a dialogue about how society can create better connections with our aging population.
This educational exhibition brings reproduction of artworks by William H. Johnson (1901-1970) from the collection and courtesy of the Smithsonian American Art Museum. Regarded as one of the most influential American artists, this exhibition features colorful images of children and musicians created at the time he worked in Harlem.

CARIBBEAN CULINARY MUSEUM
Beyond the Borders is the culmination of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Broward County’s summer Art with a Heart program. Each club provides youth with art classes taught by caring, talented artists using a variety of artistic styles and mediums. The artwork was created in four categories: acrylic paint, recycled art, cardboard 2D sculptures and graffiti art; by children ranging in ages from 6-18 of age.
