POMPANO BEACH PUBLIC ART PROGRAM

8

In 2012, the City Commission adopted a public art ordinance to enhance the aesthetic and cultural value of the city by including works of art on public properties within the City. The City Commission next created the Public Art Committee to guide the implementation of this program. This Committee meets the third Thursday of every month at the Pompano Beach Cultural Center at 5 pm. Since the program’s inception, the Public Art Committee, together with efforts from other City departments and partners, have brought forward many exciting projects. Some of these projects include installing the Barefoot Mailman sculpture, helping fund the underwater art exhibit aboard the great Lady Luck, two rounds of the Painted Pompano Fish, and artistically wrapping traffic signal boxes throughout the City. Recently, the City unveiled one of its newest sculptures at the south entrance of the Pompano Beach Cultural Center entitled We Go Together by famed artist team Gillie and Marc Schattner. To learn more about the program, please contact Laura Atria at 954.545.7800, ext. 3813 and join our Artist Network to stay informed of current and future Calls for Artists and other exciting art opportunities taking place in Pompano Beach.
