MUSIC IS YOUR ALI
This educational exhibition brings reproductions of artworks by William H. Johnson (1901-1970) from the collection of the Smithsonian American Art Museum . Regarded as one of the most influential American artists, Johnson’s colorful images of children and musicians will provide a strong visual background for the children assisting summer camps at the Ali. Johnson’s children’s book “Li’l Sis and Uncle Willie’ is based on his life and told through the eyes of almost six-year-old Li’l Sis. As the colorful story of Uncle Willie unfolds, it changes the little girl’s perception of art and the world around her.

POMPANO BEACH PUBLIC ART PROGRAM
8
In 2012, the City Commission adopted a public art ordinance to enhance the aesthetic and cultural value of the city by including works of art on public properties within the city. The City Commission next created the Public Art Committee to guide the implementation of this program. This Committee meets on a monthly basis at the Pompano Beach Cultural Center at 5 pm on the third Thursday of each month. The Public Art Committee strives to create artworks and a public art program that is inventive, unexpected and surprising and to collaborate with the community through its festivals and cultural facilities. Currently, the Public Art Program is completing its Mosaic Team Project. Artist Sonata Kazimieraitiene has been commissioned to create four mosaic projects to be displayed throughout the City. Ms. Kazimieraitiene has been working with apprentices teaching them the craft of ceramics and mosaic art. One of the projects, Music Leads the Way, has been completed and is installed at the Pompano Beach Amphitheater. The Amphitheater is a 3,000-seat, open-air performing arts theater that hosts exceptional artists and events in North Broward’s venue for art, music and culture. The Music Leads the Way features music themed mosaic murals. To learn more about the program, please contact Laura Atria 954-545-7800, ext. 3813. Please also join our Artist Network and stay informed of current and future Calls for Artists and other exciting art opportunities taking place in Pompano Beach. pompanobeacharts.org | June 2019 |

Using homemade pinhole cameras and other unconventional techniques, Steinke approaches the sun as both her subject and creative tool.
This exhibition features lively illustrations by Catalina Villegas that explores the vast diversity of lush flora and fauna found in Colombia and Florida.
