How do they make so much money blogging? It has long been understood that it really doesn’t matter what you blog about so long as you blog what you are passionate about! The money will come after that. Julie blogged about Julia Child and her cooking. Maybe you can blog about your favorite sport or hobby. I enjoy blogging about internet marketing and sports.

Whatever you are blogging about, there are certain things you can do to optimize your ability to draw more traffic and long term followers.

Here are 21 of the most significant things you can do to make money blogging!

Don’t worry, I didn’t just make up this stuff. These 21 ways have been recommended from three of the most successful bloggers in our niche, Jon Morrow, Amy Lynn Andrews and Neil Patel.

In addition, with blogging you have a safe home. Think about it, if Facebook, Twitter or YouTube pulls the plug on your marketing, your sunk. With a blog you have safety. You have control over it. Why does blogging last the test of time? Neil Patel answers the question here!

Here are a few ideas that Jon Morrow uses: Jon Morrow is a $100,000 per month earner with his blog. In his recent article, Make Money Blogging, Jon said “The reason this blog has made so much money so fast is I learned from the best, and then when I left, I kept learning. Every day, I crunch numbers, read books, talk to experts, and spend at least 30 minutes in silence, staring into the distance, doing nothing but thinking.

1. Don’t just blog, become an expert (lead with passion): This is stuff that both Jon and Neil teach. How do you become an expert? How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time.

I don’t believe there is any such thing as a “Natural born blogger” I don’t believe any one is a natural born anything. How would you like to have heart surgery from a “natural born doctor” who never studied his craft!

One way to become an expert is to model after other experts. Don’t copy! Model! Study what other experts are writing. Follow them on Google. Subscribe to their lists. Become a sponge! Napoleon Hill once said “The person who stops studying merely because he has finished school is forever hopelessly doomed to mediocrity!” ~ From Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill

2. Don’t be afraid to market high ticket items: You can make more money selling to the 2% than you can to the entire 98% combined. While at first you may need to sell small ticket, eventually you will want to introduce high ticket services or products.

3. Prime the pump

A blog shouldn’t be ad copy.

Your readers will come to your blog for the value. Instead of immediately pitching to your subscribers, give them high quality content first. It is much better to build trust and report over time. People are more likely to buy stuff from you if they know, like and trust you.

4. Measure the value of your blog posts: Use your Google Analytics and see which blog post and key words are driving the most traffic. Create more blog posts around that same key word. I talk more about Google Analytics in my blog post call 27 Best Viral Blog Marketing Tactics. Be sure to check it out!

5. Write guests posts on high influencers blogs: This is a tactic that both Neil Patel from Quick Sprout and Jon Morro are huge on! You can leverage the high traffic of an established blog by writing posts on other people high traffic blog as a guest blogger. Jon Morro said that this one trick “resulted in the most successful blog launch in history: 13,000 email subscribers in 60 days”. All of this happened before he even created his first blog post. You can learn more about Guest Blog posting by clicking on my training from three weeks ago. Just check out my 17 Top Ways To Snowball Traffic To Your Blog !

6. Use Webinars: Jon Morro said that when he does webinars for other producers in his niche, he will average 500 new email subscribers for every hour of time invested.

7. Longer content is king: Neil Patel, Jon Morrow and others agree that longer content ranks better. In a recent blogging event held for Empower Network in Las Vegas, Neil Patel told us that the majority of blog posts that rank on the first page of a Google search, have an average of 2000 words per post. You can read Neil Patel’s conclusion from following post: How long should each blog post be? Here is an interesting stat from SerpIQ…

PATTER INTERRUPT! Did you notice that I just linked to some-place outside of my blog post.

Am I nuts? Do I want to loose visitors? REALITY CHECK: I am going to give good content. I want to be THE “Go To” place for all of my readers. Yes they will click out of my site. But don’t you think they will keep coming back if I provide valuable content consistently? Also the search engines will believe that you have a higher quality site if you link out from time to time in your blog posts.

8. Promote to key influencers: Start building relationships with key influencers and ask them to share your work with their subscribers. Jon Morro believes that you should spend as much time reaching out to influencers as you do writing the blog post itself. You can read more about how to promote to key influencers by clicking on my post called “ How to promote your blog or website like a rock star.

9. Sell products that solve problems: Jon Morro teaches that it is difficult to sell a product that solves a problem, unless a customer knows he has a problem. In your blogs and marketing, you need to define the seriousness of the problem. Sometime your readers are unaware the problem exists. Therefore Jon takes it on himself the spell out the problem. Once a problem is understood, then he can propose a solution. For example I know that most of my readers have a problem getting traffic to their business website. I emphasize the seriousness of the problem. Most people don’t know how to get traffic, but I do! Therefore most of my blogs and products are designed to help people get traffic to their blog, website or opportunity. If you want to learn more about how to get free traffic to your website or blog, be sure to download my free 8 step check list and video walk through to 30 – 50 leads per day!

The following is from Amy Lynn Andrews: “Get recognized and noticed by well know bloggers”.

10. Create quality content:

In order to have visitors, you must have stuff that is worth visiting! It is interesting, but must high profile bloggers agree that you must create exceptional content. Gone are the days of spinning an article multiple times in hope that google will rank something. Neil Patel agrees with Amy on this point. In fact he recommends that your can increase your Google rankings of a post, if you simply edit the post and turn it into a super high quality post.

11. Establish no strings attached relationships with your readers: Use social media, email, blog comments, promoting others and forums. It’s not what you know, it’s who you know. Can you figure out a way to catch the attention of a high profile influencer. Here is my own personal thought: Go to an influencer’s blog? Find a couple of posts and you appreciate. Can you comment on a post or two on a regular basis. Subscribe to his list. Become a follower. (don’t be annoying about it or obtrusive) But can you leave positive complements in his comments and cudos on his blog.

Every one wants to feel appreciated.

If you are regularly commenting in a positive way, don’t you think it is possible that he may just start noticing you and leaving comments on your blog. Maybe he will even start linking to your posts and respecting what you do.

He may even allow you to be a guest blogger on his site.

12. Making money is the bottom line: You can either sell your stuff Or you can sell other people’s stuff on your blog. Of all of the stuff you can sell, I prefer to sell other people’s stuff. It’s easier. Don’t be afraid of competition. If a lot of other people are selling the same product or course, it usually means that it is a good marketable product. Otherwise people would not be selling it. Of all of the products I’ve sold, I love selling digital stuff the most, because it has the highest profit margin! The key to selling stuff through blogging is to sell stuff that you have 1000% belief in.

Check out my short 3 minute video I created about belief in selling and moral authority here!

You MUST have moral authority in whatever you are selling. The best way to do this is to become a product of the product. Yes, if you want moral authority, you are going to have to put a crowbar in your wallet and purchase the product you are selling and use it. It is a tough pill to swallow, especially if you are on a tight budget. Find a way or make a way to purchase the product you are selling. But more importantly, digest the product. Ingest it. Make it a part of you. In no other way will you gain the excitement you need and the moral authority necessary to effectively sell your stuff. Remember, selling is transference of emotion. If you have a strong belief (and moral authority) in your products, selling is almost effortless! From Neil Patel, Dave Wood and Myself (Jack Later)

13. Create an infographic. When your blog is posted on Google+, Twitter, Facebook etc, images get more response than written word. I create an infographic for most of my blog post for this very reason. Also when someone shares your post on their social media, it is the infographic that they see first. You should have some infographic or descriptive photo with EVERY blog post! It’s kind of cool but some prominent services will allow you to upload an infographic. Be sure to include the URL of your blog that the infographic points to. For example, the image at the top of this blog, (the money coming out of the computer), can be submitted to these sites. People will click on the image, and you get a visitor.

14. Lead with passion: If you are passionate, you will be more productive. If you are more productive, you will make a living. Begin by writing down every topic you are passionate about. What are you passionate about? Make a list. Here are a few of my passions: Internet marketing Sports Great sports icons Rare coins So these are the things that I blog about most. I also sprinkle blogs about my family from time to time so that people can get to know me better. Neil Patel gives a caution here: He says not to spent a ton of time creating a personal blog. The just don’t drive traffic.

15. Be authentic and transparent:

Remember, blogging is a social experience. Be yourself. Remember you can change a person’s life when you are transparent. I remember going to an exclusive training put on by Neil Patel. During the training a lady in the audience said that she blogs about self defense for girls. To her readers she explains her reason for blogging about this subject. She said that when she was young, she was raped. It was an awful experience for her!

As a result it motivated her to create self defense clubs in her community. Self defense became her passion. Keeping girls safe became her mission! This is what she blogs about most. If you were reading her blog, don’t you think you are more likely to comment and like her blog.

16. Get a custom domain name Have your domain name pointing to your url. I prefer GoDaddy. You can get a discount on a custom domain for as little as $9.99 if you use my own personal affiliate link: Just click here: http://x.co/jacklater

17. Comment on other people’s blogs. Get the conversations flowing. The blogging community is generally a very social community and those who are active in the community often reap the rewards of it. Ask other bloggers to link to your site. Better yet, ask them to link from their social media.

18. Connect Google Analytics with Google Webmaster tools to your site: It is absolutely essential that you know which blogs and keywords are getting the most traffic. If you want to make money blogging, you need to know your numbers. Google Analytics and Google webmaster tools are free. But… They have to be connected together. It is easy to do it. You just need to know how.

Just go to this post and I’ll give you exact details how to connect these two free services together in my post titled, 27 best viral blog marketing tactics for 2015

19. Study Other blogs that rank on the first page of Google. Do not copy and paste. Don’t rehash everything. I believe in modeling not copying! Get ideas from others, but use your own voice and writing style.

20. I.L.T. to more money! Invest, learn, teach (ILT). This is what I call Invest, learn and teach. Think about it – Where else can you learn AND earn money at the same time. I am a university professor. You know as well as I do that most courses do NOT give you the opportunity to earn money while you are learning. Blogging and internet marketing is one arina where you will earn money while you are learning. If you are part of a company that sells educational products, become an expert in those products. Become a product of the product. If your company allows you to do so, blog about what you learn in those products. ILT to more money. Don’t be afraid to teach what you learn. Teaching is the best way to learn and master your craft.

21. Ask for comments in the form of a question. Don’t forget to italicize your question! So I’m going to do it right now! I hope you got a ton of value from this post.
