Euskaldunak Danak Bat presents the 41st annual Basque Festival WINNEMUCCA The Winnemucca Basque Club’s 41st annual Basque Festival will take place June 8th and 9th at the Winnemucca Convention Center. Festivities begin at 8 a.m. on Saturday at Vesco City Park with the annual Basque Festival 5K Walk/Run. Race winners will receive Basque inspired prizes. The Basque parade will take over Winnemucca Boulevard beginning at 11 a.m. There will be Basque Dancing in front of The Griddle and Winnemucca Convention Center during the parade. The Basque Picnic begins at 12:30 p.m at the Convention Center. The picnic features dance performances, games, professional wood chopping and weight lift-

ing, and fun for the entire family. Come out and meet new people while catching up with old friends! A traditional Basque lunch will be served, this includes chorizos, steak sandwiches, and paella. A Free outdoor concert will begin at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday. The fun begins at 8 a.m. on Sunday morning with a Catholic Mass featuring a Basque priest at the Convention Center. Following the mass will be a Basque breakfast with entertainment by the Winnemucca Irrintzi Basque Dancers. Each year the Basque Festival provides a great family environment and quality entertainment. This is an event you do not want to miss!

ELY - Ely Nevada has some of the darkest night skies in the United States. Take a train ride and see the stars. Northern Nevada Railway partners with the Dark Rangers at Great Basin National Park to give fun trivia about the night sky. Winnemucca’s Koyote Kruisers will be hosting their 24nd Annual Show ‘N’ Shine event in Vesco Park on Saturday, June 15. Registration is at 8 a.m. and awards presentation at 3 p.m. Entry fee is $30; $10 per additional vehicle. There will be a registration/welcome party at The Pig BBQ and Pub from 5-8 p.m. on Friday, June 16. The first 100 entries will get a free t-shirt, and the raffle grand prize is $200. The Koyote Kruisers will also be sponsoring an evening cruise in downtown Winnemucca from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. All makes and models are welcome to the Show ‘N” Shine and the cruise. 5th annual Country Under the Stars Concert ELKO Sandvik Mining and Rock Technology and the Boys and Girls Clubs of Elko present the 5th annual Country under the Stars concert on Thursday, June 6 at the Elko County Fairgrounds. The concert features Chris Janson, a platinum-selling high-octane entertainer, multi-instrumentalist, award-winning singer/songwriter, and the youngest living member of the Grand Ole Opry. His second album, Everybody, produced his second No. 1 hit single, “Fix A Drink,” the chart-topping follow up to his No. 1 debut smash and summer anthem, “Buy Me A Boat.” His CMA-nominated song, “Drunk Girl,” won Music Row “Song of the Year” and has been called “the most important song to come out of Nashville in years.” Jason closed out the 53rd ACM Awards with what Rolling Stone called a “mustsee performance.” Jason continues to sell-out shows on his headlinging CHRISJANSON.COM “Waitin’ on 5 Tour,” and has been announced as direct support for Chris Young’s “Raised on Country Tour.” Opening Country Under the Stars, at the Elko County Fairgrounds, is Troy Bullock with his hit song, “Country Go Round.” Try just released his new song, “Junior and Waylon” this is making waves in Nashville. All American Throwdown Mountain Bike Enduro Race ELKO Fears, Tears, and Beers
Concert
The All American Throwdown Mud Drags and Concert, featuring American Hitmen, is coming to the Elko County Fairgrounds on June 15. Watch Pro and Amateur mud trucks battle it out on the mud, and then don’t miss America’s Got Talent finalist American Hitmen live immediately after the drags.
Mud Drags
Locals are welcome to enter the mud drags. On-site registration and tech is from noon to 4 p.m. the day of the show. Drivers meeting will then be at 5 p.m. sharp. The classes are Pro Mud, Mud Mod, Pro Stock, Super Stock, Powderpuff and Street Legal. There are over $5,000 in cash and prizes up for grabs. The oldest and still the best mountain bike Enduro will be on June 8, rain or shine. An enduro format mountain bike event, where you pedal your bike to the top of the mountain and then you are timed at specific sections of the course. There will be 2-6 timed sections, mostly twisty downhills and sprint sections. The sum of the times on these special tests will determine the winner. The event takes place on BLM and USFS administered lands under special use permits. There are men’s and women’s events for all classes. The classes include: • Fun Run — Shorter in length and less climbing than the beginner class, 2 timed sections • Beginner Class — 17.5 miles, 2,300’
elevation gain, 3 timed sections • Sport Class — 26.6 miles, 3,500’ elevation gain, 4 timed sections • Expert/Pro Class — 33.3 miles, 5,400’ elevation gain, 6 timed sections After the race an awards ceremony and after party will be held at the Bristlecone Convention center. Racers will eat free at this event, others will need to purchase $10 wristbands. There will be music and celebrating all day at Broadbent Park. Bring your binoculars and lawn chairs to watch the Expert and Pro classes take on the final downhill timed section. First, second and third places are awarded in each class. Paradise Valley Father’s Day BBQ By Ashley Buckingham
PARADISE VALLEY
The Paradise Valley Volunteer Fire Department will be hosting their 69th Annual Father’s Day BBQ at the Firemen’s Park. It is always a great day in Paradise Valley. The beef is cooked the old fashioned way, garlic infused smothered with a rub then wrapped in foil, burlap and secured with wire. The meat is then set in an underground pit fueled with hot sage brush coals that have been covered with sand. The pit is then topped with metal sheeting, retaining the heat to allow the meat to cook overnight. The homemade BBQ sauce is mouth watering. They also serve cowboy beans, tossed green salad, french left to right PVFD members Dr. Rolfe Schwartz, Andy Mathew’s and PVFD Firebread and watermelon. The Para- man’s wife Roxanne Chabot. dise Valley 4H club will be serving ice cream and cool refreshments. The local school PTO will be hosting a cow flop. There is plenty of fun for all including foot races for the kids and adults, a nail driving contest for the women and horse shoe pitching. There is a wide variety of door prizes, raffle and silent auction items, which are generously donated by local businesses. If you would like to donate to this event please contact a Paradise Valley Fireman or Dennis Deputy at 775-304-0402. Meal tickets are sold at the event. Proceeds from the BBQ will got to the funding and maintenance of the Fireman’s Park in addition to the PVFD scholarship fund . PVFD Assistant Fire Chief, Bob Buckingham, cuts Paradise Valley is located 40 miles North East of Winnemucca, NV. The valley is nestled against the Humboldt Toiyabe National Forest in the Santa Rosa Mountain Range. Pipp Gillette to perform June 7th

WINNEMUCCA Come enjoy some East Texas Folkie music at the Martin Hotel. Pipp Gillette will be performing at 7 p.m. on Friday, June 7. Pipp Gillette lives and works on the family ranch near Lovelady, Texas, where his grandfather started raising cattle and cotton in 1912. Pipp and his late brother Guy received the Western Heritage Award for Outstanding Traditional Western Album of 2011 and the 2013 Western Heritage Award for Outstanding Original Western Composition for their performance of the Waddie Mitchell song “Trade Off.” Drawing on a lifelong interest in Western history and music, Pipp plays traditional cowboy music on guitar, banjo, harmonica and bones. Pipp’s first solo CD, Singing Songs by Waddie and Pipp received the Western Heritage Award for Outstanding Traditional Western Album of 2016. His newest CD, Pipp Gillette with Lloyd Wright was release fall 2018. Music at the Martin is organized by Great Basin Arts & Entertainment. Find more information at www.gbae.org.

Join the festivities at the Fernley 95a Speedway, June 22 for the Lantern Launch. People from all over the country come together for this truly magical experience of releasing thousands of rising lanterns into the night sky. There will be special activities and bounce houses for the kids and performances held throughout the day, including nightly musical performance throwing the desert venue into a festive mood. Gates will be open at 1 p.m. Entertainment includes live music, karaoke, visual arts, and more. After sunset the magic begins as the night sky is lite up with the release of thousands of lanterns. Definitely an experience you don’t want to miss! To enjoy the full celebration effect it is suggested to reserve an RV or Tent camp spot with friends and family. However, there are great hotels in Fernley if camping out isn’t your style. You are able to bring your own food and coolers to the event, though no alcohol or glass is allowed. Food trucks will be at the event if you decide not to bring your own food.
