The “Run-A-Mucca” motorcycle rally will celebrate its 18th anniversary this Memorial Day Weekend, and Winnemucca is gearing up for one great time. “Run-A-Mucca 2019” is scheduled for Friday, May 24, through Sunday, May 26, and participants can expect everything from live concerts and a $1,000 Poker Run to death defying special acts, bike games, and the now-famous “Burning Bike” spectacular. Plus, for just $20 a ticket, raffle participants have the chance to win a new 2019 Harley-Davidson Street Glide motorcycle. Tickets are $20 each or six for $100. The drawing will take place on Sunday, May 26; participants need not be present to win the bike, but must be 21 years old in order to purchase a ticket.

Celebrating its 16th year, the Reno River Festival features food, shopping, family-friendly rides and attractions, a Craft Beer Experience, a Summer Wine Village, live music featuring nationally recognized artists, a Mother-Daughter Look-A-Like Contest, yoga in the park, and the Reno River Roll: one of the most unique bike rides in Northern Nevada. In the center of it all, the world’s top whitewater athletes take on the Truckee River Whitewater Park. LaRen Smith Bengoa Run

WINNEMUCCA — The 16th annual LaRena Smith Bengoa Run, Ride or Walk for the Cure will take place at French Ford Middle School in Winnemucca. A raffle and silent auction will be held in conjunction with the race. All proceeds for the reace event go to help those in Humboldt and Lander counties who are undergoing cancer treatments. http://larenasrace.org/ index.html

Live music is scheduled throughout the day at Winners, with “Korner,ston (Cornerstone),” “Arizona Jones,” and “Dusty Leigh and the Claim Jumpers.” The evening will be rounded off with “Damage Inc. Southern California’s Tribute to Metallica” performing followed by “The Johnny Young Band” performing from 10 p.m. — 2 a.m. The Stunt Tours Bike Jumpers and Special act “One Wheel Revolution” will perform throughout the day at 12 p.m., 2 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. Saturday’s $1,000 Poker Run will begin at 11 a.m. and run until 5 p.m. Participants will visit a variety of businesses with the object of building the best poker hand possible; first place takes home $1,000 cash. From noon to 2:30 p.m., a barbecue will be served at Gold Diggers Saloon & Grub House, West on 1-80 to Rye Patch Exit. At 4 p.m., sign-ups for the Run-A-Mucca Tattoo Contest will be held in the Winners Cabaret; competition between event participants will begin at 4:30 p.m. Remember, you have to have a Run Package in order to enter contests; first prize in the Tattoo Contest is $500. At 8 p.m., Poker Run Awards will be presented. Winnemucca Mayor Rich Stone, Humboldt County Sheriff Mike Allen and Winnemucca Police Chief Eric Silver will present the 11thAnnual Nevada National Guard “Soldier of the Year” award at 8:15 p.m. The now-famous “Burning Bike” spectacular will take place at 9 p.m. while live music by “Damage Inc. Southern California’s Tribute to Metallica” performs.

Nevada Youth Trout Camp

SPRING CREEK — Trout Unlimited is hosting their annual Nevada Youth Trout Camp located in Elko, Nevada. This premier fly fishing camp includes the teachings of all the basic fly fishing skills, from fly tying, insect identification, knot tying, and casting lessons. Participants will also be able to fish on a trout stocked pond with 1-on-1 instruction from our expert volunteers. Participants will learn about the conservation of coldwater fisheries and ethical catch and release fly fishing. This is a great opportunity to start a life-long hobby or enhance fly fishing skills. Shortly after at 10 a.m., motorcycles will depart from the Winners for a Memorial Cruise to Veterans Park; a Memorial Service will take place there at 10:30 a.m. Special act “One Wheel Revolution” will perform and the “Stunt Tours Bike Jumpers” will perform at 11:45 a.m., 1:30 p.m. and 4 p.m. Sunday’s Poker Stagger Hand will take place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. with the winner of the best hand receiving $400 cash. At 11 a.m., bikes will begin lining up for a bike show at the Model T Resort. Starting at 1 p.m. Model T will host at Bike Stereo Competition. Bike games are also planned from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Model T; signups are from 3:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. An awards ceremony will be held at the Winners at 6 p.m., followed by live music performed by “Led-Zepplica, The Led Zeppelin Tribute Experience” from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Winners. At 9 p.m. the drawing for this year’s HarleyDavidson Street Glide motorcycle will take place at Winners. Tickets will be available for the bike at the Run-A-Mucca booth until the time of the drawing. A final performance by “The Johnny Young Band” will be in the Winners Cabaret from 8 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. Run-A-Mucca 2019 is organized by the Winnemucca Convention and Visitors Authority and funded in part by the Nevada Commission on Tourism. Ward Charcoal Ovens Trail Run ELY Come join the Ely Outdoor Enthusiasts in their first trail run event on May 18th! This years event will offer a long (4.2 mile) and short (2.0 mile) course. This trail run is located at the Ward Charcoal Ovens State Park just south of Ely, Nevada. The Ward Legacy Trail (4.2 miles) is an ATV trail that winds through pinyon and juniper trees and climbs for a scenic view of Steptoe Valley and a view of Wheeler Peak at Great Basin National Park. The trails consists of packed dirt, loose gravel, and some rocky loose climbs and descents. The Riparian Loop Trail (2.0) is a hiking trail with gently rolling terrain along Willow Creek. This is a great beginner and kids trail run! Start/Finish Line/Onsite Registration will be located at the Day Use Trail Area at Ward Charcoal Ovens State Park. Onsite registration is at 8:30 a.m. the event begins at 10 a.m. Visit http://elyoutdoorenthusiasts.org/

There will be no finishing medals. Dogs are welcome at this event! To make sure everyone has a safe and fun event the following rules apply: • Dogs must be on a leash at all times. • Dogs must be under control at all times. • Kids 13 and under with a dog must be accompanied by an adult. • Extendable leads longer than two meters are not allowed on the course. • Only one dog per person allowed. • Owners must clean up dog’s feces at the start/finish area and on the trail. Take soiled bags with you and dispose of at the finish line. • Use common sense when involving your dog in this race. Please do not bring your dog if: — Your dog is not fit enough to run/walk the entire course. — Is not leashed trained. — Does not get along with other dogs, adults, or kids. • Runners without dogs have the right-of-way. Please make sure there is ample room to pass if needed. • Ely Outdoor Enthusiasts is not responsible for any injuries to your dog. • Remember not everyone loves dogs as much as we do! Winnemucca Balloon Festival set for May 18-20 WINNEMUCCA The 8th annual Winnemucca Balloon Festival promises to let your dreams take flight. All of the festival will take place at the Winnemucca Sports Complex, located on Fountain Way and Barter Way, behind Burger King and Les Schwab Tires. This event begins Friday, May 18 with the “Glow Show,” and a pilot meet and greet. This is a great chance to see the balloons up close, take photos and enjoy the beautiful display of balloons backlit by the sunset. On Saturday and Sunday, gates open at 5 a.m., with balloon launches set for 6 a.m. each day, weather permitting. The festival closes at 9:30 a.m. each day. While admission to the grounds is free, please bring a nonperishable food item that will be donated to the Winnemucca Food bank. Black Rock Rendezvous

BLACK ROCK DESERT This memorial weekend (May 24-27th) join the community of organizations and individuals who are taking care of the Black Rock Desert for a weekend of stewardship, tours, presentations, and dutch oven cooking. The Bureau of Land Management will be partnering with the Friends of Black Rock-High Rock, Nevada Outdoor School, and Friends of Nevada Wilderness to host this event. Friends of Black Rock-High Rock will also be celebrating their 20th Anniversary as an organization and Nevada Outdoor School will be hosting a children’s camp. You must RSVP with an organization in order to attend. Opal Digging Weekend DENIO COME DIG WITH US!!! Jewelry Bench will be set up at the Royal Peacock Mine Thursday, May 30 - Monday, June 3. We will have a few pop-up tents where we can gather for cocktails, snacks and show off our goods after digging. Since 1981, the Royal Peacock Opal Mine has been open to the public as a pay-todig mine. It has yielded countless world-class precious opal specimens during that time. The Royal Peacock Opal Mine is located at 10 Virgin Valley Rd, Denio, NV 89404. When contacting the mine for camping or digging reservations, advise them that you are with the Jewelry Bench for the discount. Discounted prices at the Royal Peacock Mine are: to dig in the bank $150 per day, tailings $50 per day, Children under 12 dig for free. The Royal Peacock has RV & tent camping available, you will need to contact them directly for reservations. RV spots – 30 amp, $40 per night, 50 amp, $45 per night. Cabins – $85 for first person and $10 per additional person. Tent spots and or dry camping – $10 per person per night, tent & dry camping have access to water, wifi, laundry, shower and restrooms. There is also free camping in the area – it is first come first serve – no reservation. On the evening of June 1 the Royal Peacock will be preparing and offering a tri-tip BBQ to anyone that would like to join for the evening from 5 – 7 p.m. The dinner menu will be open flame BBQ Tri-Tip, baked potato, salad, buckaroo beans, bread and complimentary dessert.
