Pencil
The pencil work is a rough planning action for me, to some it might be hard to make out but for me there is a languid that i understand for me to follow. It’s important that i use the negative space here to describe the location and set the scene in the story. composition isn't just used for entertainment and to make the page look interesting its also used to better tell the story and show that environment.
Ink/Out line
I used my sketch book drawings from my model references to create my panels that had my character in them. for the background - I knew how my panels would look but i didn't want to use a line work through out the background i wanted to use line work to only suggest and let the colours make the shapes of the environment of the location.
Back drop
The back drop is used for the sky in this story, it was initially going to be a day time story but The only reason for that is because I didn't know if i could pull of a night time scene, I've never created a comic book set at night, the colours have to so un real to reality and I felt that because i didn't have an understanding of that, it would lower the standards of the comic. But This isn't a project that I want to hold back on, i don't want this comic to be held back by fear of what i can and cant do. So i felt it was the time to learn and see how it goes.
Character Colour
Colouring the character at night is difficult but effective. After reading some comics to help capture the night effect i learned that I need to use muted colours. I used muted purples and dead greens to capture grey cloth and skin. using these muted dirty colours really helped me capture the feel that this character was walking through a none lit area. I used the phones light to help suggest this. if there was any other sources of light her natural lit skin colour would show just like it does in her hand in panel 2 (top right)
Background colour
There was more dissection that had to be made about colouring the background. I stayed to the same colour pallet as the characters colour. If she was truly in a night scene the colours of everything would pretty much be the same, so I used the same colours through out. the process was along and difficult due to finding the right place for the right colour. colours that better described distance and density.
Shading
Adding shading helped the composition, it helps with depth and makes things seem more solid rather than flat. as you can see theres a shadow glow that i applied to the panels to help work the night scene effect.
elements
In places its hard to tell but the elements in these panels are added detail t tracks and sky. and the most obvious is the manifesting of the ghost in panel 6
