TOBE REPORT Color

Autumn/Winter 2016

Color |Autumn/Winter 2016

Letter from the Editor Color is more than what most forecasters use it for. It’s not the color of your favorite scarf or your most flattering pants, its life. The color within our lives without us realizing it. There is a deeper meaning to colors, it can have psychological effects, bad and good, balance and imbalance. It can make your day or break you. Throughout this color story, our new team thought tirelessly about trend. It may be wrong, immoral to use our emotions as inspiration for color in fashion, we’re setting a new precedent for color. It’s not as simple as “leaves fall in autumn, let’s look at leaves”. There’s more to color in relation to the time of year, and to life during said year. We thought about you, the outcast, and the misunderstood. That’s where the true genius lies, doesn’t it? The person that says nothing says the most, and we took inspiration from you. I believe there is something for everyone here. Whether you’re straight laced, or uncustomary, you’ll discover an interest here. And if you don’t, go look at plain Jane’s trend report, ‘cause that’s not what we do here.

Chromaphobia

Chromaphobia is defined as a persistant, irrational fear of, or aversion to colordue to phsychoilogial effects colors have. It is usually a result of a depressive state of mind. This color trend is based on the idea that one cannot understand color, and this creates a physical response to colors with the exception of white and grey. In many species the coloblack is used to camolauge themselves from pretators. Turning black would help them survive within their environments. In the same way black is helpful to humans protect themselves from pretators. Black helps conceal and cover up any flaw or emotional tear, which is why I think the trend has increasingly evolved. Black visually represents internal strife and emotional pain. This used to be a trend solely for the depressed and misunderstood, agnoizing over life and its inevitability. Black is used to help the internal flaws in life.

Inside Out Looking inside yourself is much more than staring into your soul and finding yourself; be literal. For me, it creates a progression- darker within and lighter on the outside. This varies per person. Look at your wrist, the veins and the colors. As hermits we rarely see daylight. Our skin is pale, fair rather. The colors under your skin are deep, succulent. Next time your uninspired, find inspiration within yourself, your body.

Internet art is all about exploration in exploitation. Exploitation of object and reality. Presentation and accuracy are key to the internet trend. It it crucial that every color, object, and presentation within internet is precise and intentional. Throughout this trend the color choices are vibrant yet muted. Although there are different interpretations of this of color between all the internet artists, the goal remains the same. Looking at the flaws of the internet and exploiting them. It is primarily comporised of soft, almost pastel virsions of color and can progressively become brighter and more agressive. The future is within this trend. Layers of color and pattern are instrumental factors, but it is not overwhelming. Quite the opposite.

People mainly focus on the colors in which we can transform technology, but I think we’ve missed a beat. Looking back at older style technology shows a growth in color from creams and whites, to metallics, to transluscence. The newer technology has raised the question about technology and its usability. The colors evolve, like us. Technology has become a huge catylst to new artwork, lifestyles, and trends. But have we truely looked at the machine for inspiration. Internet art was embracing the flaw, the watermark, and object, and I believe in color trend we should do the same.
