As an accredited LAND ROVER and RED BULL photographer, Marais covers a range of global extreme sport events, shooting edge sports on commission for agencies and manufacturers.
Jacques Marais is a professional photographer and author who regularly contributes to a range of premium travel-, adventure- and outdoor magazines, both in South Africa and abroad. He writes a DIY Adrenaline column for the national newspapers in the Media 24 group, and his photographs and articles are regularly published in papers and on web sites around the world. Marais authored a number of books, including successful outdoor titles on Hiking, Adventure Racing and Mountain Biking for RHS Publishers, with Great African Adventures featured as his latest title. As an internationally acclaimed photographer, he covers global extreme sporting events, shooting disciplines as diverse as rock climbing, freestyle motocross, adventure racing, downhill mountain biking, snowboarding and off-road expeditions. Africa has featured big on Jacques' travel radar, with backpacking, mountaineering, rafting and kayaking trips taking him to countries as diverse as Morocco, Malawi, Ghana, Mozambique, Swaziland, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Uganda, Seychelles, Egypt and Madagascar. International destinations include continental Europe and Scandinavia, Argentina, Bolivia, Borneo, Brazil, Vietnam, Cambodia, Australia, Iceland, USA, Mongolia, Russia and Greenland. Jacques received GOLD and SILVER awards for images entered in the Sports Category of the SONY ProFoto Awards 2010, South Africa’s most prestigious photographic competition. He is also authoring a new book, A GUIDE TO AFRICAN ADRENALINE, with a leading publishing house, and is in the process of launching a new outdoor magazine title. In 2007, he was selected as one of 50 global finalists in the acclaimed ILLUME International Sports Photography Competition, and attended a gala banquet in Aspen, Colorado with top action shooters from no less than 22 countries. Marais has again entered the Red Bull ILLUME 2010 Contest, which is currently being judged in the USA.
