Industrial Heritage This project involves designing a garment and producing a concept book inspired by The Industrial Heritage of Ireland. The Guinness Factory, Jameson & Sons, Bunmahon Copper Mines, Killmacthomas Mills, Flahavan’s and Croke Park have inspired me to design a luxurious sportswear collection for men. This project explores every stage of taking a fashion product to the market – from consumer research to design and promotion. Further research and development lead to my idea of a detachable neoprene and airtex mesh collection, while using the different shapes of lapels and waistcoats to create seam line designs throughout the range.

I am currently constructing this luxury sportswear jacket inspired by the different shapes of lapels and waistcoats that the Irish industry workers wore throughout the 18th and 19th century.
The body of the jacket is black neoprene and all of my pattern pieces have no seam allowance. I am constructing this jacket using the cover stitch machine to attach these panels together which create the lapel inspired feature to the jacket. The cover stitch will also feature on the back of the jacket.
The edges of the jacket will be laser cut leaving raw edges around the neck and raw hems on the neoprene short sleeves and at the bottom of the jacket.
These sleeves are airtex mesh and are detachable. One half of a double-ended zip is sewed to the mesh sleeve while the other half is sewed to the upper inside of the short neoprene sleeve, this develops a detachment. The airtex mesh will also feature inside the jacket as there are concealed pockets down both side seams.
An open-ended zip down the centre front of the jacket.
An elasticated cuff to finish the airtex mesh detachable sleeves.
